For purely gaming is the i5 2500K, considering its overclock potential, still the best price/performance ratio for 1080p 60fps?

I'm really close to getting one off ebay for like $100-120, whereas the i5 4460 is $190-200 and has nearly the same exact performance for gaming and is locked.

No the 860k is.

The 6600k is supreme for price performance ratio but it's more money.

New elder god tier for price/performance is going to be 6600k/Amd 480.

Asrock has a z170 mobo that was just on sale for 80 bucks too

this, it's only like $75 too.

>mfw I thought that was a box of mac n cheese

Fuck off you trap.

You do not deserve those quints you blasphemer. Pupina is a beautiful qt girl with a feminine vagina.

No "she" has a pretty big cock. Probably bigger than mine ;_;

I definitely agree with the 480 as an essential part of the elder god tier price/performance combo, but doesn't the 2500k OC'ed with decent cooling perform nearly on par with the 6600k OC'ed considering only using 1600mhz ddr3 ram?

>God tier
>amd
Kek

Get out of here with that shit

Who is pupina

Nice meme you faggot jew shill nigger

what a waste

trap, that's all you need to know.

Best post ever.

...

Stop making fun of our trap queen you piece of shit.

Athlon 845 only 65W so you can buy a cheap shitty FM2+ board for it

That's the i3 6100 you fool, 4 threads at 3.9ghz, it can actually keep up well with an i5 6400

>Fuck off you trap

I expected nothing less, gee :')

Why do people say that an i5 is all that one needs for gaming?

Is an i7 4790k worth it?

Here's a 2500k @ 4.6Ghz compared to a 6700k @ 4Ghz. Anyone have a 6600k they could do the benchmark with?
Anything else you want me to test?

Forgot picture.

845 has a locked multiplier, not worth it imho. Better to spend $10 for the 860K. You can overclock it later, many anons report 4.4GHz @ less than 1.3v.

But then you're stuck using a horribly out of date platform/socket with absolutely no future, not to mention all the programs compiled with Intel's compiler will run like garbage in the first place.

I3 6100 should cost similar, and perform better(not factoring in the overclock of the i5)

The point is being able to use a shitty motherboard, also it's Excavator, so it has a bit higher IPC as well

>not to mention all the programs compiled with Intel's compiler will run like garbage in the first place.
It's 2016, not 2008 man

Whatever you do, don't get anything with less than 4 true cores. Things are going to change drastically in gaming, in favor of more cores as opposed to single thread performance.

>Want to upgrade to the latest Z170 chipset.
>Don't wanna give up my 4790K but can't afford the 6700K

Life is suffering

Excavator only has like 10% better IPC over Steamroller. A 4.4 GHz will BTFO a 845 forced to turbo to 3.8GHz 24/7 (if that's even possible).

Why the fuck do you want to upgrade if you have a 4790k?

Also, does DDR4 make a difference in gaming? I noticed that the timings in some sticks are higher compared to some DDR3 sticks.

Could a newer processor that supports DDR4 memory achieve better performance than an i7 4790k with DDR3 memory despite the single thread performance of i7 4790k being higher than that of said newer processor?

>Futureproofing
>~80 dollar CPU
>Likely 400 dollar PC

>despite the single thread performance of i7 4790k being higher than that of said newer processor?

Where the fuck did you hear this?

You also know that these CPUs are unlocked yes?

DDR4 can move larger chunks faster but isn't as fast with smaller chunks.

Basically, depends on the games.

Because I want the latest chipset/shiny thing......

so just wait for zen and get an affordable 8core/16 thread CPU with the same IPC

Doesn't the i7 4790k outperform newer i7 processors?

no

Best bang for buck: xeon x5650 clocked at 4.1+
It will draw plenty of power though.

That doesn't seem like a valid expression.

Haha, more like save up for Haswell-E you scrub. 6700k is a fucking meme

Are you retarded user? AMD won't be charging 1K for their 8 core CPU

Yes it does, don't listen to this fucktard

Have you looked at any benchmarks?

digital foundry did some videos on i3 6100 vs i5 2500k's and the DDR4 at higher timings only benefited the i3 while the 2500k (and other i5's) didn't benefit much from anything higher than 1600mhz.

Yeah, but we all know the less money you spend, the worst it is.

It's like you want to buy a brand new computer every single year.

They have to have tested with like a titan X, that with skylake is the only thing that seems to make RAM matter in some games

are there any
feet
pics of pupina?

Assuming, the chip is at all close to what AMD is claiming, it'll be 40% better IPC, with 8 cores and 16 threads

how is that at all going to be shitty? it'll basically be a 5960X

This has to be bait

I don't think the GPU matters that much as long as it isn't ancient, It's just that Skylake and newer gen Intel CPU's utilize DDR4 better, and a dual core Skylake benefits the best because of the DDR4 picking up the slack of the lack of cores, or at least that's what I gather from what I've seen.

Why not?
AMD products are generally priced what they are worth. They have to undercut intel and nvidia when they are not being competitive. If zen is any good, it could be just as stupidly expensive for an 8 core as broadwell-e

They have to undercut intel because above all else they desperately need market share, especially in servers

the reason they're so cheap now is because their per core performance is shit and they consume more power

OP here, I've had a phenom ii 964BE since 2012 and even since then I've had issues with CPU bound games like Skyrim and GTAIV and more recently DaSIII with stuttering (not a GPU or driver problem).

AMD goes for the JUST ADD ON MORE CORES meme while also appealing to people by having higher clock values than most Intel CPU's despite AMD cpu's having much worse single-core performance than Intel.

I like that AMD are out there for people on the cheap, and I actually like AMD GPU's overall, especially after hearing about the 480, but I am never falling for the AMD CPU meme again, even overclocking my 965BE to 4.0ghz, it doesn't hold a candle to even and i3 in terms of the majority of games.

It's more complicated than that.

AMD shat the bed with the K10 going for a higher clock speed than IPC. They rushed bulldozer with CMT which was retarded since two ICs share L2 and L3 cache and thus having it filled up by either IC at any given time making it run at basically half the threads under serious load. It was so bad the 1060t beat out the early 8150 in single thread performance.

They couldn't turn back because right before they released the K10 they had to sell all their fabs. Why? because they bought too much and handled their money retardedly so they couldn't make proper updates to their shit like Intel does.

I really hope Zen goes well for them. They've never been able to recover since 2008

3570k is really good deal right now, it has higher instructions per cycle and uses less power

...

>tfw e6750 -> 4590

here ya go

Where are you going to get a mobo?

Absolutely. Still running my 2500k, upgrading just doesn't have enough benefits for the cost of a new CPU+motherboard(+RAM?). No noticable bottlenecks yet with an R9 290.
