New Xperia Lineup

You know sony is the best when you realize their fucking entry level phone is the best looking android of 2016 so far. It's nice to see them jump out of the spec wars bandwagon and release desirable phones instead. when will the others learn?

top kek

nothing noteworthy fampai, but i am leaning towards it as i just want a beautiful phone that doesn't eat the battery in a day. I like the stamina mode and it really helps to get through the second or sometimes third day if i use it lightly.

>5" 720p screen
>1.5GB of ram(sony's middle finger to poorfags i guess)
>Mediatek MT6735 (Quadcore 1.3GHz ,Mali T720)
>13MP primary/5MP front cam
>microSD card slot(up to 200GB)

i don't understand why xperia phones get praised for their cameras. easily the worst out of highend htcs, lgs, nexi, apples and samsungs. heck, i've got one myself and it considerably more washed out and slower than other devices

Xperias are plastic, underpowered, plain, unremarkable shit. Overpriced as well and lose value faster than any other brand.

do these come with self exploding glass this time?

xperias are so fucking overpriced

Companies really need to stop corner-loading the camera hardware, that shit is just fucking stupid. Mount it center-vertical or don't fucking bother doing it at all.

Just checked the specs today.

Hardly much difference to my Z3

the regular X doesn't seem to be an upgrade from a z3 or z2, both of which should get android M.

Getting a "plain" phone is quite difficult elsewhere, other manufacturers are insistent on building gaudy shit with poor proportions.

I still have my xperia Z1 compact
>overpriced
In 2014, when I decided to buy a new phone, I had my eyes on 3 phones: Google nexus, xperia Z1, and some xiaomi phone.
They all cost roughly the same (350€ or so), and had similar specs, and were the cheapest "high-end" phones on the market. Sony was already releasing the z2 for a much higher price, but there was hardly an improvement to the Z1 so I obviously bought the z1

What it shows is that it shuts down the camera at a lower temp than other phones, but it doesn't get hotter, so it's probably gonna be fixed in a software update.

They weren't up until fairly recently. Z3C and Z5C were full fledged flagships in a compact body for like 70% of the price of other flagships.
That new lineup seems really overpriced though, and pretty disappointing in terms of hardware.

>They're moving away from the nice sharp square edge design
Fuck sake

Midrange specs for flagship prices.
This will surely be a success.

Sony nearly filed bankrupcy couple of years ago

Hitting that Apple share even if it's unlinkely to happen

Design yeah but components, nei... So much bloat

Samsung is such a psychokillah

When it comes to design, less is more.
The Xperias with their plain design look a hundred times better than whatever Fisher Price looking shit Samsung comes up with year after year.
Whenever I see someone with a Galaxy device I just pity them, despite the fact that their phone might have the best performance/battery life out of all smartphones, because they look like utter vomit.
Unfortunately with that latest lineup it seems Sony is only bringing nice design to the table, but with shit performance and a high price.

>Design yeah but components, nei... So much bloat

if talking about software, sony official firmware is pretty responsive and fluid as far as i experienced. their bloat can be disabled but some of them can't be removed, which might trigger some perfectionists.

>if talking about software
Nah, as far as software goes, Sony is rather one of the good OEMs. Their rom is getting closer and closer to pure Android so that's nice.
But look at the hardware on their phones.
Xperia X is $550 with a fucking SD615 and a 2600mAh battery. That'd be a nice mid-range phone with a cool design but not at that price.

those are some pretty shitty specs, I hope it has an appropriately low price point

>mediatek
>prolly 500bux
fuck off

yeah they are complete jews, but with the SD650, X is good enough to compete with HTC 10. well not sure if HTC flagships are still relevant in terms of performance.

youtube.com/watch?v=YuFkl3TCrDE

it's not an X member, it's the E5, it is claimed to be sold for 199 euros. still expensive imo but nothing surreal.

Those fucking icons on the HTC10 triggered me.

>anno domini 2016
>720p

into le trash

>More than 720p on 5 inch screen
Kek, enjoy your placebo, shit performance and battery life

good goy who paid for pixels he can't even see detected
into le cuck shed

720p is more than enough for low-end. Z5 premium has a 4K screen and it's just unnecessary. so unnecessary that even the phone doesn't switch to that resolution unless you are watching something 4k or some other shit.

>MediaTek

Rubbish company, do not support

Do not buy

Request source codes!

i recently compared a 4.5 inch 720p to a 1440p 5.3 inch screen and i swear i only noticed the difference when i pressed my nose up the screen. completely ridiculous and pointless, unless you're playing around with shitty mobile vr i guess

Those are terrible specs. Wtf? Nexus 5X is only $200 and has 1080p screen, and S808. It better sub $150 with those specs.

what is wrong with mediatek. being forced to use their products.

I bought my Z3 when they dropped the price to $500. Within a few months Tmobile stopped selling Sonys then they stopped updates. I've been told my variant D6616 will forever be stuck with 5.0.2

>I've been told my variant D6616 will forever be stuck with 5.0.2
That sucks user, I had the T-mo Z3 as well but sold it and got an unlocked Z3C and it's been running Android 6.0.1 for a few months now

no water protection

Im more than happy about giving up 5-10% performance or paying slightly more for that peace of mind.

get cucked Samdung and Applel users

Plastic > all other materials when it comes to phones, it can take abuse like glass never will, and metal is fucking retarded.

>buying carrier based phones

stay cucked

I just looked at one in the shop and it's not as impressive as the renders.

>1.5GB of ram
Into le bin.

sony tries to be apple of android but they don't have as much brand loyalists, as the android userbase can quickly change brands because the OS and apps are the same, whereas apple users are pretty much locked down.

I think sony is telling the market that "fuck you, we premium price now no matter the hardware and we don't care if we lose money". however we will see how longer they can stay that way. blackberry tried to sell a 700 dollar phone but it wasn't a huge success. of course bb and sony are not the same and sony has cheaper XA but still it's very hard to survive in the premium android market.

>X
Meh.
X performance though, I'm getting dat shiet. It's the closest to being perfect phone I have seen in the last 3 years.

> Xperia E5
> 720p display
> 2700mAh battery
> MediaTek with 1.3Ghz
> 1.5GB of RAM
> 199€ off contract
Were they literally drunk when they made this? Who will fall for these specs at that price? This thing fucking sucks.

Yeap, people is talking about X but the actual flagship is the X Performance. I'm getting that one later on, looks like a nice upgrade from my Z3C.

MediaTek only produces low- mid-end SoC's and is considered shitty for various reasons. The performance is mostly poor to average, they had a lot of overheating problems in the past, they never release the sourcecode for their chipsets which is why custom development for MediaTek devices is pretty fucking dead and a MediaTek SoC means that your device will probably never see an update to a newer version of Android, even if the OEM would like to updating the handest (they basically shit all over both the users and OEM's in terms of support).

tl;dr
Shitty 120€ Android 4.2 iPhone knockoffs always use MediaTek chipsets.

To clarify,
>5 inches
>metal
>SD820
>sd card slot
>stereo front speakers
>FINGERPRINT SCANNER NOT ON THE FRONT, but on the side, Jesus Fucking Christ, finally not an iPhone rip-off
The only con is battery, non-removable 2700mah. I personally gave up, only oukitel phones feature good batteries, but they are mediatek garbage.

Finally someone else who thinks Samsung aesthetic is vomit.

Koreans can't into this shit compared to Jappos.

>best looking android

>when you realize their fucking entry level phone is the best looking android of 2016 so far

s7 edge would like to have a word with you

it literally looks like insane james bond shit

that new sony phone looks plain as fuck, just like any other phone

only Sony I would buy was if they decided to make a Nexus line. They can keep their overpriced locked down garbage otherwise. If I want a fashion accessory I will just get the ishit.

I like my Z5, wish they hadn't opted for the high fov lens, but oh well.

Works perfectly, looks really nice, fingerprint sensor is fast and accurate and the screen is good. Battery life is 2-3 days as well. Don't think I would've been able to get a better phone at the time except maybe an Iphone, but I don't like ios, and it cost 150€ more.

why does android have to be so FUCKING BLOATED
jesus christ seriously

My G4 averages over 3 days without being poorfag tier

because you're using OEM garbage
Only Android worth getting is Nexus despite the more shitty hardware.

How about *gasp* installing an AOSP ROM on a non-Nexus phone?

i'm using OxygenOS which runs smoother than Cm12 but it still sucks dick

:^)

What are you doing to achieve that?

yes, because I want to deal with using a ROM made by some self proclaimed dev shitskin (who considers anything that doesn't boot loop stable) on a mobile device I depend on daily. Not to mention that the fragmentation of Android development and the fact that ROM quality goes down the shitter unless you have a popular flagship.

>using the smiley with a carat nose

>wanting to be banned

>Great design
>Great battery life
>Overpriced to shit

Sad to see Sony living in the past and pumping overpriced shit like their brand name means jack shit nowadays.

Hopefully these new phones will get deep discounts once Sony realizes nobody is buying them.

Put a non poorfag battery in it

Where do I buy one at?

3 out of my 3 android phones worked better with pajeet roms, to the point I didn't even bother trying my latest phone's skin - I straight up installed recovery and tried every aosp-based rom, one by one.
>buying non-flagship
Old flagship is always better than new cheap garbage, and the dev scene plays a big part in that.

Search zerolemon g4 on Amazon

That Z5C is so fucking hot.
Real shame that the camera performance is so poor.
I don't get it, Sony is so based in nearly every aspect (battery life is pure magic, they're moving closer to AOSP, phone design is based as fuck, only compact phone with flagship specs) but they HAVE to be niggers about the camera :
>very good camera module (in fact, most other OEMs including Samsung use cameras made by Sony)
>unfortunately the image processing software is shit and produce terrible images
>the camera app is slow, unintuitive and performs all-around horribly
>BUT you can't just get another camera app because the image processing is protected by DRM so other camera apps will produce even worse images

I always wondered whether their aosp supports camera2 api(you can shot RAW with it - solves all post-processing issues).

I used to have a Z3 and kept hearing about muh Camera API2 support for like a year but it never came. Dunno if it did end up happening.

Welp after 10 seconds in Google, it seems like they still don't support it and don't plan to.
So RIP Sony for literally hindering camera performance with poor software.

>3 out of my 3 android phones
That's because you're using flagships with bloated shitware.

I rather not have to deal with flashing and the possibility of instability (which while much slimmer on flagships is still there for ROMs)

Nexus line is the best of all worlds IMO (well, that's before they decided to remarket it as a 600USD device)

It has the longest official support cycle

It runs the latest version of Google's Android and gets updates for supported version almost immediately

It had the best ROM and mod community
The hardware was mid tier but passable

Honestly, I would pay a full 600USD plus for a Nexus Sony line.
It's 2016 and Sony still thinks people will pay for their brandname. They think the Japanese market reflects the demands of everyone else I suppose

>same sensor as Z5
So it will have a shitter camera than S7

See The problem is with the software.

Besides Nexus phones, the only smartphones worth getting are made by Motorola and LG.

>Motorola
>worth
Is this early 2015 again? Motorola is beyond saving friendo. So is LG btw
>LG G5
Literally wrong opinion : the post

Jesus, it's a literal fucking brick.
I used to just swap out batteries with my old G4.
Current G5 has noticeably better battery life than the G4 did, and picking up replaceable batteries for it soon since I have a trip coming up.

it looks good but overprice as fuck

I'd get the XP over the S7, but the camera is kinda important for me

G5 was a miss but 2016 Moto X is easily the best looking phone of the year.

5x and 6p are a huge failure - they weren't even an improvement over 5 and 6. I'm still waiting for the newest nexuses - if they have fingerprint sensor on the front I officially say fuck this shit and buy Sony.
>LG
Their only good phone is g2.
>Motorola
Literally dead, see the latest leaks.

I agree, but desu I wouldn't get either.

Motorola is part of Lenovo now, which is known for being the worst possible company when it comes to security and software updates.

>5x and 6p are a huge failure
Says you.
I've had a 6P for about 6 months now and I could hardly be any happier. The camera is fucking awesome (slower than Samsung's but produces better images, especially and by far in low light conditions) and the performance is perfect, not to mention that it has Android N.
Only thing that's meh is battery life, but I still get a full workday (7:30AM to 23:30PM) with 4 hours SOT, with 100% adaptive brightness and all battery-hogging options enabled.

>I've had a 6P
But did you own a 6? My point was that they were WORSE than their predecessors.

Nah I had an N5, which is probably still my favorite smartphone ever despite the shit battery and bad camera.
I don't see in what way the 6P is worse than the 6 though.

>G5 is too ugly and not waterproof
>I cant handle another HTC after 7 years of loyal service
>XP is lackluster
>Chinkphones not available in my country
>Simply don't want a Moto
>Nexus 6P is probably the closest, but no SD, not waterproof, and slightly worse camera
What is a man to do

I really like the looks of the E5, but it seems a bit too shitty specwise. It's probably good for a person who doesn't use their smartphone that much, battery life will probably be really good with the 2700 mAh battery, but I personally wouldn't buy it. I currently have a galaxy s5 mini, and it doesn't look like much of an upgrade from this phone apart from a never android version and somewhat better cameras.

Heh, to each their own. My last Samsung phone was a Note 4, and I simply don't have the stomach to deal with Touchjizz ever again.

Fuck sony phones, WHERE IS MY SONY TABLET? THE XPERIA X TABLET SHOULD VE BEEN ANNOUNCED BY NOW, WHERE IS IT?

Sony doesn't care about your dumb useless gadgets

Sony made the best sony tablet for years. It was the best android tablet out there.

The Apple iPhone 6S Plus

That's becasue you don't use your phone, g4's battery life is shit.

I truly don't understand where this "samsung phones look good" meme came from, they have had the same fucking disgusting profile since the S3, and as soon as they replace their soapbar-like white plastic with metal the likes of iVerge start espousing how good they look, like the material change fixed the other litany of aesthetic fuck-ups.

Koreans CANNOT into design, they have no taste.

Get an iPhone if you care about aesthetics imo

iPhones are not aesthetic.

No but people will think you are an aesthetics fan if you have one.

To be frank, I like the brick style I get with my zerolemon battery

If non-iPhones want to truly succeed, they need to find a way to allow iMessage, or to create a successful alternative that gets taken up by significantly more people.

>their fucking entry level phone is the best looking android of 2016 so far
No great distinction given the other Androids it's up against.

Z5 owner here

Still no android 6.0 update
