>2016 >posting on Sup Forums >not using mpv instead of inferior players like VLC, MPC-HC and Potplayer >being so anti-technology and tech-illiterate that you are scared of using a vastly superior player simply because you have to type in your settings instead of clicking them in.
Don't even bother asking why you should use mpv instead of your player, because your player has become stagnant and outdated. mpv is the future and not using it makes you the past.
Either see for yourself that mpv has become the superior video player or wallow in your mediocrity with your terrible VLC garbage. It is up to you to see for yourself why it's amazing so don't bother asking to be spoonfed.
For you intelligent mpv users and newbies, let's discuss amongst ourselves the latest developments in this superior piece of video playback software.
Using this thread for mpv discussion encourages shitty/new posters such as OP to make the threads and pollute them with their bullshit. Don't forget to report.

Here's a GUI. (Though i use it mainly for MPlayer)

Is mpv good as music player?
Julian Cooper
no
Cooper Price
Define "good" and define "player".
If by "good", you mean quality of the sound, then yes. It does play good quality sound.
If by "player", you mean the ability to play a music file, then yes. It does play music files.
However if your notion of "good" is an all encompassing idea, then no. MPV doesn't play music "good".
If your notion of "player" is more than simply playing music file, then no. MPV is not a good music player.
Daniel Barnes
It supports --speed=1.1 --audio-pitch-correction=no, which makes most music sound better, but it doesn't support any chiptune formats so I have to waste disk space converting them to opus.
Carter Turner

MPC is literally all you need in a media player. You're just a fucking sperg that refuses to fall in with popular trends.
Anthony Gray
>Sup Forums video player >meme player Sup Forums pick one and only one shill
Thomas Mitchell
Trying to build on Linux, I have ffmpeg installed (I can call it from terminal) and I get this error:
>Unable to find development files for some of the required FFmpeg/Libav libraries. You need at least FFmpeg 2.4 or Libav 11. Aborting.
What do? >ffmpeg version 2.7.6
Elijah Turner
>hurr meme player Sup Forums xD get it? because v = Sup Forums >hurr shill even though it's free software
Josiah James
mpv is literally all you need in a media player. You're just a fucking sperg that refuses to fall in with popular trends.
Sebastian Parker
>MPC is literally all you need in a media player.
Except it's not. mpv is more feature complete.
John James
>MPC is all I need so I refuse to believe that there could be a better media player MPC fags, everyone.

I can't believe people on Sup Forums would willingly use VLC.
Austin Cook
can mpv apply "stop-screensaver=no" when audio is being played (no video)?

add to the bottom of mpv.conf [extension.mp3] stop-screensaver=no
Ian Hall
mpv is still crashing with angle (default) backend when going to fullscreen

Is the new SSSR shader good now?
Alexander Campbell
>2016 >using opengl shit

I find it pretty great, it's easy to eq using the parametric equalizer ffmpeg has through lavfi, and using the openal ao I can get what's probably the best HRTF out there (I kind of prefer it to the stuff TBIsone provides) But I rather use a music player that has a music library, like Foobar2k
Christian Harris
Is there a way to apply settings by resolution and framerate? elseif (srcHeight < 481) and (deintFps < 26)"SD 25fps" elseif (srcHeight < 721) and (deintFps < 26)"720p 25fps" elseif (srcHeight < 1081) and (deintFps < 26)"1080p 25fps" elseif (deintFps < 26)"2160p 25fps"

Why not mpc-hc/madvr?
Gabriel Jackson
Use latest archive from sourceforge one
Ryan Bell
you are still using windows and complaining about drivers being shit
Jeremiah Martin
Yes, use a lua script
Jonathan Wright
does anybody know how i can bind scroll wheel to adjust volume instead of seeking?
Jacob Smith
Are you using Alt+Enter to enter fullscreen? If so, don't do that. Press F instead. This should be fixed in the next release.
Luke Lopez
anybody?
Daniel Nelson
Have you tried reading the manual?
Connor Clark
not all of it. i did read "mouse control" part, it says i can use mouse 5 and 6 to change volume, but i don't own a gaming mouse. i want to use the scrollwheel
Joshua Scott
literally the beginning of the manual
Michael Taylor
i don't have input.conf, if that's what you mean.
Jacob Williams
i created input.conf file and put "AXIS_UP add volume 2, AXIS_DOWN add volume -2", but it isn't working
never hard about mpv how's it better than vlc/mpc?
Joseph Hill
The answer varies from person to person. Use it and find out for yourself.
Levi Cox
It isn't better than mpc it crashed even worse than vlc back when I tried it like 2 years ago Maybe it's better now but I can't recommend
Carson Peterson

Need a crutch? Also, it's a touch faster for editing default language/subtitles. I'm an MPC convert.
I loved her to death, but I traded up. Try musicbee.
Jackson Peterson
See It even comes in an MPC-HC wrapper flavor
Robert Phillips
nobody should ever use SMPlayer
Brandon Anderson
Source?
Austin Sullivan
Source: everybody who works on mpv and is fed up by all of the bullshit coming from SMPlayer's general direction
SMPlayer is basically 1% GUI, 99% stupid, obscure, arcane and fucking retarded shitty hacks and work-arounds for MPlayer deficiencies.
When they changed their binary from “mplayer” to “mpv” they just left all those hacks in, since the SMPlayer developers apparently didn't get the memo that mpv is not MPlayer and shouldn't be approached with the same level of shitty hacks.
The result? Shittons of bogus bug reports on the mpv bug tracker by people running into issues caused by all of the aforementioned hacks. It's no surprise that mpv hates SMPlayer. Either way, just don't use it
Robert Gutierrez
Do you have a recent version of mpv? Full HDR support and tone mapping landed recently, check mpv.io/manual/master/#video-output-drivers-target-brightness You might not have it configured correctly, also madvr has different defaults on brightness, iirc the tone mapping isn't adjustable on madvr
Grayson Campbell
More importantly, tone mapping is completely fucking arbitrary as there's essentially absolutely zero specification.
HDR-on-SDR is pretty much the wild west. There's no such thing as “correct” when it comes to tone mapping HDR. There's only “does it pass as watchable or not?”
Christopher Thomas
>Do you have a recent version of mpv? yes
>target-brightness >hdr-tone-mapping I tried different values, there is no difference
Camden Morgan
Not him, but I've heard something similar, though not in so many words, before. So these hacks, do they fuck up my picture quality a whole lot? I imagine they might, but I really don't see much of anything that would apply to.
What's a good alternative for setting default subtitles? I could ditch it pretty easily. I never file bug reports though. >inb4 weeb
Brandon Ramirez
I see your problem, that video is probably using BT.2020, and you probably have madVR configured with some sort of color management (or they changed their defaults to use it), mpv by default doesn't use color management You can easily enable it by adding icc-profile-auto to your vo, it should work if you have a reasonable profile installed in your system, otherwise you will need to use target-prim Check the manual mpv.io/manual/master/#video-output-drivers-target-prim and mpv.io/manual/master/#video-output-drivers-icc-profile-auto If you don't have a ICC profile then you will have to use target-prim, the primaries for common monitors are bt.709, unless it's a wide gamut monitor in which case the primaries are probably close to adobe
Jose Lee
>you probably have madVR configured with some sort of color management nope
>icc-profile-auto a bit better now
William Ramirez
>that video is probably using BT.2020 from madvr stats: matrix BT.2020 primaries BT.2020 HDR 1200nits, BT2020 -> DCI-P3
Robert Morris
mpv stats: Gamma: bt.1886 this is probably wrong
Bentley Taylor
yeah, if mpv claims it's bt.1886 then the file obviously isn't being detected correctly. Must either not be SMPTE ST.2084 or must not be tagged as such.
(Oh, you also need to make sure you have up-to-date versions of both ffmpeg and mpv)
Lucas Wood
>up-to-date versions of both ffmpeg and mpv they were both compiled a day ago
Benjamin Lopez
I'd love to help you debug but I don't see that particular file in the collection of HDR clips I downloaded.
Oh, Sup Forums stripped the ICC profile as usual. Here is the actual image: 0x0.st/cS5.jpg
Jacob Parker
Same issue. :(
I had tearing on linux...
I have always used the f key to go to fullscreen.
Grayson Powell
>wreaks
lol
Christopher Russell
Can confirm, works fine on Linux, but on Windows it's broken
Aiden Watson
Hmm, I tried rorgoroth's build and it works fine too. Why my build doesn't work? ffmpeg config ./configure --enable-gpl --disable-debug --prefix=/mingw64 --enable-shared mpv config ./waf configure CC=gcc --enable-gpl3 Nothing suspicious in the mpv log
Jacob Hill
Best settings for taking screenshots?
Thomas Rogers
Does the angle backend work with GPUs that don't work with DX11? I have greenish screen and crash in fullscreen.
Caleb Foster
which build u used?
Cooper Diaz
>MinGW64 isn't mingw pretty much a broken pile of shit at this point?
just stop trying to polish a turd and switch over to linux
Cameron Lewis
What happens if i delete the angles .dlls from the directory?
Also how to make sure the video is always un-edited with filters like gamma,contrast,brightness,etc..
#Extra brightness=0 contrast=0 saturation=0 gamma=0 hue=0 This is what I am currently using, is this enough?
Luke Wright
Look into sofalizer, it might suit your tastes even better.
Christian Wood
>2016 >posting on Sup Forums >not using invisible .png >not using webm as a picture

Works fine for me on Intel HD3000 and Radeon HD4000 series, on Win 7
Ryder Parker
>What happens if i delete the angles .dlls from the directory? The ANGLE backend won't work, and it will use WGL instead >Also how to make sure the video is always un-edited with filters like gamma,contrast,brightness,etc.. By default none of that is affected, the video always runs unedited Color management is disabled by default too if you refer to that
Tyler Anderson
>By default none of that is affected, the video always runs unedited iight
Elijah Sullivan
Rude OP.
Nolan Thompson
Until Clang/C2 works, mingw-w64 is the best option on Windows. MSVC++ is garbage.
Robert Walker
Pastebin a log please. Also post your OS, GPU and a description of the crash.
It would be interesting to see what's causing this, since mpv's "fullscreen" mode is just a borderless window the same size as the screen. It could be something else causing the crash, like switching from downscaling to upscaling.
Juan Cooper
>Also how to make sure the video is always un-edited with filters like gamma,contrast,brightness,etc.. what do you mean by “edit”?
what do you think should happen when you play back a video that does not match your display specs?
Christopher Sullivan
11:48 0x0.st/cQQ.7z ← need a windows user to test whether ANGLE works 11:48 (64-bit) 11:49 (also those DLLs should be signed with my certificate)
Blake Ramirez
With regarding to both of those conversion scripts. Is there any fundamental different between them?
