Nvid. 9400 gt 1GB

Nvid. 9400 gt 1GB.
Core 2quad
4GB RAM

Which to upgrade first?
also, recommend parts
I'm fine with getting a new power supply as well.

9400gt
upgrade to 270x
then ram (if motherboard has 4 ram slots)
cpu is perfect

Motherboard does have 4RAM slots

good

Any ram brands that you suggest and should I get 6 or 8?

Build something fresh. Get a i5 6500 and upcoming RX480

No graphics card over $110
I only got $148 to spend

Why do you want to upgrade ?

gaming and I also do some light video editing on the side

Wait for the RX 460.

ddr2 or ddr3?

Ddr 2

Get more money.

If you can't, go used.
A used 7850 2GB should be well within your budget, and will blast the shit away from your old GPU.

But yeah, GPU first.
Then SSD.

What kind of a Core2Quad? You can probably grab a faster one for change.
I'd recommend you buy used. Try to look for a GPU that came out after Bitcoins died down. That way you're less likely to get an abused mining rig card.

Then it's not worth it.

You're fucked

Upgrading DDR2 for intel chipsets is like pulling teeth.

Grab a used GTX 660 for 50 bucks or so, upgrade to 8GB of DDR2. You'll be just fine.

Wait for GTX 1060/1050 then upgrade

New MOBO and CPU/RAM first then.

Save money

Is it normally better to have good RAM or a good graphics card?

All of it. Do you want to game on it?

Which C2Q? OC it and put in another 4 GB stick and you get a decent browsing machine.

9400 is pretty slow, get something like a GTX 650Ti cheap or the AMD pendant, if you want to game. If not, keep it or think of a GT520 for energy saving.

Your machine won't handle the newest games anymore, but older ones work fine. The best way would be to save up for a new machine.

If you are tight get a used Z77/2500K bundle for around 120 $, if you have it sell your current parts and buy a cheap GPU for it. Almost anything will be more powerful than your 9400.

Definitely the GPU. Its the largest bottleneck on your system.

Thanks

it's pretty old isn't it?

that psu gpu and board probably ded soon, my 2008 built with q6600 already taken psu and gpu. Upgrading isn't worth it m8.

It's not worth to upgrade. Build a new base with CPU/Mobo/Ram first. Stick your oldshit card there, and buy new card when you get more. Preferable for the RX 480.

That's what I'm doing right now.

RAM is something you need enough of, while GPU is something you can't get enough of.
RAM is like water but GPU power is like money.
You can get enough water, and not enough water is bad, but no-one complains about having too much money

Post any good GPU's under $130, used is welcome

Wrong way around.
New GPU, then upgrade the base.
Don't bother with the RAM or CPU since upgrading that shit is cost inefficient as shit.

Not really.

Good CPU + Bad GPU > Bad CPU + Good GPU.

Wrong way around dude

I disagree.

He should be able to get a 7950 at that price. Runs like a fucking champ on just about anything I throw at mine.

A used one

Upgrade cpu to x5450, upgrade gpu to an r7 360/370 or gtx 750/950.

Ram should be enough.

I bought mine refurbished a year and a half ago for 150. Suppose they're probably on collector status pricing at this point. I looked at 7990's for shits. Much to my surprise they cost fucking 800$

HD7950/70
Anything non Nvidia
Kepler drivers suck, 780Ti user here

Not for the last 13 years you god damn retard
