If someone who doesn't give a fuck about anything except their applications working asks you why they should switch to Linux when their applications are not supported on it, what do you tell them?

You tell them "well don't switch then, why are you making such a big deal out of it? wtf are you telling me for anyway? jeez"

>If someone who doesn't give a fuck about anything except their applications working asks you why they should switch to Linux when their applications are not supported on it, what do you tell them?
I tell them to fuck off tech boards

This.

I don't use Linux because analysis software and rhino doesn't work at reasonable speed.

Deal with it faggot.

i tell them they shouldn't.

Linux is for people who want an os they can be productive and have fun with. When I say productive, you 90% of the time have to be a total tech autist. Most tech autists don't need the application support or will take the time to get it running in wine.

If they ask you why, is because you told them to switch. Don't tell them to switch.

Otherwise, just say "no reason really, I was just wrong, have a good day"

Windows is better than Linux

>Thread created by Winblows autist
>Gets filled up with "HURR DURR I AGREE" "LINUX IS SHIT LOL" "WINDOWZ IS BETTER"
like pottery

You haven't been capable of presenting a single argument

Go play with your timesink OS if you cannot explain why they should switch

I'm I use Linux at work and I love it. Never said it was shit or that Windows was better. But in OP's case there is no reason for his autistic friend to change OS just for the sake of changing OS.

It's a simple question to answer. Everyone answered it the correct way.

I use GNU/Linux and I don't think everyone should switch. I've used Windows 7 and OS X extensively and I've decided that it's the best OS for what I want to do, mainly, having all the software I want with a minimal hassle.
If someone says "hey getting gcc to work on Windows is a pain in the ass" I'll tell them to give GNU/Linux a try, and if they hate it that's fine.
GNU/Linux is the best for some people, just like Windows 7 is the best for some people (gamers), and OS X is the best for other people (I'm not sure who these people are).
Get over it, some people like different things than you.

/thread

WINE exists, faggot.
>Everyone answered it the correct way.
You mean "correct", as in
>"HAHA LINOOX IS SHIT HAHAHAHAHAHA WINDOZE IS BETTR AMIRITE?!?!"

I run Win10 on my desktop.
I own a MBP.
I run CentOS on my server.

You're all fucking retarded.

So some autistic kid goes all salty about people providing an answer that doesn't favor his favorite OS and I'm the one that should get over it?

I mean look at this By the way, good luck trying to make a decent version of InDesign work on WINE.

fucking /thread

No, you all, collectively, all the people who start "My OS vs Your OS" threads needs to stop, it's just retarded shit-posting, and it assumes that everyone's use-case is the same. You don't use JavaScript to write device-drivers, you don't use ASM to write interactive websites, and you don't use Linux expecting every game or Adobe product to work, and you don't use Windows or OS X expecting everything to be open and customizable

I probably would switch to Linux, since I like using my OpenSUSE VM, but shit compatibility is a deal breaker for me.

You're really ignorant

Yes wine exists.
It also has 'garbage' support for the software I like to use. Their words, not mine.

Literally garbage according to the developers themselves.

Linux can't replace Windows

I’d just like to interject for a moment. What you’re refering to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called “Linux”, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU project.

There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine’s resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called “Linux” distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

My servers run Linux as it's good for servers.

My desktop runs Windows as it's good for desktops.

And with the Windows subsystems for Linux I have absolutely no need for Linux on my desktop.

I'm terribly sorry for interjecting another moment, but what I just told you is GNU/Linux is, in fact, just Linux, or as I've just now taken to calling it, Just Linux. Linux apparently does happen to be a whole operating system unto itself and comprises a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Most computer users who run the entire Linux system every day already realize it. Through a peculiar turn of events, I was misled into calling the system "GNU/Linux", and until now, I was unaware that it is basically the Linux system, developed by the Linux project.

There really isn't a GNU/Linux, and I really wasn't using it; it is an extraneous misrepresentation of the system that's being used. Linux is the operating system: the entire system made useful by its included corelibs, shell utilities, and other vital system components. The kernel is already an integral part of the Linux operating system, never confined useless by itself; it functions coherently within the context of the complete Linux operating system. Linux is never used in combination with GNU accessories: the whole system is basically Linux without any GNU added, or Just Linux. All the so-called "GNU/Linux" distributions are really distributions of Linux.

THIS

>tfw no nigress gf to colonize

Open doesn't cut it anymore

Linux is basically the windows phone of desktop operating systems in terms of app support. Os maybe nice but if you want to be productive it just doesn't cut it.

Just move to any west-european major city and enjoy, user!
