Duckduckgo

Is it just a meme or is it actually better than google?

of course it's a meme. google is unparralled in search.

"muh privacy" meme

Define better

If better means sucking at searches but not hoovering up your personal data then yes

If better means better at searches then no

>actively advertised on Sup Forums out of all places
>founder sold his previous project (the name database - a social network) including all userdata
>worse results than bing or google

yeah, just use startpage.

>search how to X
It display the best response in Stack Overflow
>search an hex color
Display the color, rvb/cmyk values, complementary, and color picker
>you can customize the css
And other things

>servers located inside the US
worse than google

so whats the best alternative?

startpage
searx

Startpage with bbc theme
Ixquix or some shit
Bing

It's run by a kike, not any better than jewgle

Just a meme. Use startpage or ixquick.

t. duckduckgo user

It uses google search too.

Google is pretty shitty for any in depth search anyways. DMCA takedowns and google sanctioned clickbait blog ads out the ass, not to mention censorship and filters for kiddies searching for porn.

Bing has a better video and image search anyways.

meme

Type !bang in the ddg search box. You'll see there's a search keyword for pretty much every search form on the internets. Many duplicates of each one in fact. So many, pretty much whatever you intuitively try will work. That's pretty much all ddg is good for, as the ddg search form itself doesn't respond that great to search terms being directly inputted. It seems to be getting better over time though. If you find the search results from the ddg search form satisfactory, it's worthwhile exploring the privacy and preferences options in the menu.
There's shit like disabling ads, saving prefs in various formats (including Sup Forums's export prefs to a url type thing).

>muh bangs

Why do that when ddg has already done it.
As I said, for pretty much every search form on the internet. And reduntantly. as in:
!youtube
!yt
!video

does duckduckshit have exhentai support

enjoy your us based servers

So you don't have to use that afwul site? Why route all of your search queries through DuckDuckGo's fucking US based servers when your browser supports keyword search out of the box?

If you are really that lazy and stupid, you deserve your data being collected.

...

keyword search existed before ddg bangs you mong

>but not hoovering up your personal data then yes
yeah, about that...

It's better than Google, but that's not saying much. Ixquick and Startpage are what I tend to use.

By the time you've created two dozen keywords, you won't remember what the first three were.
Pretty much whatever you try if you set ddg as default search will work.
Nothing's stopping you from using other search engines AND ddg bangs.
Also, enjoy your tinfoil hat.

reminder
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Names_Database

I'm well aware of that, fucktard.

>Nothing's stopping you from using other search engines AND ddg bangs.
Common sense is stopping me from using ddg bangs.
fuck off, you lazy gen Zer

Remember scroogle before they got cucked

>try startpage
>greeted with this
ebic

hurr durr he sold everyone's personal data
He sold the entire company, The database went with it. What would you expect?

DDG has a Tor hidden service
I use it almost exclusively now

learn how the site works before complaining about the google logo
or use ixquick, which is made by the same company and doesn't show anonymized google results.

>better than google
Lmao
this

>What would you expect?
I'd expect that he will do the same thing again with ddg, once someone offers him enough money.

What Startpage does is give Google search results with no botnet

Google Search asks me for a CAPTCHA every single time because I use IPv6 NAT
DDG doesn't

ddg
>based in the us
>owner known for selling sensitive customer data

startpage/ixquick
>based in the eu
>known for keeping customer data safe

the choice is obvious

And your point is?

My point is that your personal data is not safe with DDG. Are you slow?

I'm hopeful that I'm not the only one in this thread who realizes who the idiot in this discussion is.

We've been over this, DDG sucks and they flat-out lie on their website.

Use searx or ixquick/startpage if you value your privacy. Also use the built in keyword search of your browser, if you relied on bangs until now.

Maybe you should read the thread again, the vast majority of posts agree with my point of view, you dullard.

>and there is a permanent message saying "Please come back later"

spotted the ddg shill

>using tinfoil as an insult in a thread about private search engines

DDG shills, everyone.

There's the builtin keyword search in your browser.
There's ddg !bangs.
There's also the inurl: filter if you direct your search through google.
Bangs are still a very nice convenience, where as creating 16,000 keywords you won't remember is not convenient at all.

>Not using ask.com

You guys disgust me

It's the old convenience vs. privacy debate again... Which do you value more?

>implying you need 16,000 different search engine keywords
>implying you can remember predefined keywords better than the ones you created yourself

>having shit tier memory and a low IQ

average ddg user

hello 2003

...

Implying you totally ignore the fact ddg already has multiple keywords for everything so whatever you try usually works.

does it have exhentai support

startpage has a database the gov could subpeona, where as ddg has no database.
>depends who you want to believe.

What is exhaenai?

truth is its better in some ways and worse in other ways. they actually have quite a few innovations, and their UI is way better than googles. google's results are more personalized though, if thats something you care about.

Confirming there's no shortage of idiots.

Don't use google
Don't use Fuckduckgo
Just fucking SPage everything

great search engine. It actually gives me the same result that google gives me mostly. Sometimes it is actually better than google.

Use Yandex. It's better than both.

>Sold a company that had a database with user info. Don't use it. Not even once.

>forced to use predefined keywords instead of fast ones for the ones you actually need
>every bang begins with ! forcing 2 extra button presses compared to browser keywords
>memorizing the bangs is no different from memorizing your own keywords, unless you use the long forms which take much longer to type than your own keywords
Literally no reason not to use your own keywords.

It's slow as fucking shit

!graphemic ▲
You probably don't want to bother creating a keyword for that, but it's nice to know it's there.

oops graphemica
>guess i lost this argument right there, didn't i?
fuck

Fuck no

lel that KGB trash plants an unkillable cookie on your dom storage, it's an even better botnet than jewgle
INSTALL SEARX

Better than google in terms of search relevance and privacy. The !bangs are great too, I use !a, !f and !yt a lot.

I gave it a try during last year : it's a meme

DGG is a scam. Not only there's no guarantee that they don't store your ip or other personal info, they also push leftist political agenda through curated news feeds. And surprise, the owner of DDG has been in charge of a user database prior to this project.

Use start page or ixquick instead.

>Better than google in terms of search relevance
it literally proposes reddit first when you search for Sup Forums.org/g/ you retard kill yourself
>pic related

Gabriel Weinberg, the founder of DuckDuckGo, used to run the Names Database. This was a website that aimed to connect people who had lost contact by gathering lots and lots of e-mail addresses. Getting access could be done by either paying money, or submitting lots of e-mail addresses of other people. Since the service revolved around gathering personal information, it is very suspicious for Gabriel Weinberg to start a business that is privacy-oriented.

DuckDuckGo used to set a tracking cookie, even though they claimed they didn't. This was done by a third party they cooperate with, which means that it wasn't necessarily intentional, but if it's unintentional, it shows a worrying lack of care.

DuckDuckGo is based in the US. This makes it really easy for the NSA to compromise it. If it were based in the EU, for example, the NSA wouldn't have the legal power to force them to log everything without telling anyone. This wouldn't guarantee privacy, but it would make it a lot more plausible. Instead, they're based in the US, which means that the NSA can do whatever they want with them. There are secure search engines that are not based in the US.

What you should use:
searx.me/

Source code: github.com/asciimoo/searx

Google is only better for complicated searches. If you want to search for basic stuff, ddg is a lot better. Also, it has !bangs (duckduckgo.com/bang) which Google doesn't have.
If you need Google, just do !g.

oops.
sorry bout that.

Too bad it was the best post in thread, but rules are rules.

Most of my bans are because of that shit.
It's ridiculous, and against the actual intent of the rule (which is to keep blue boards from becoming yet another porn board and spammed with porn dumps, not to be literally work-safe).

you got a source on that? or are you just talking out of your ass?

moot outright said it in some q&a thread but I'm too lazy to search for it

if you actually do think that blue boards are intended to be really safe to browse at work you must be a huge fucking retard though

>ixquick

>too dumb to disable the familiy-filter

shit

has the power of every engine
just !g it
or just !yt it
or !s (startpage) it
or !idf it

if you !g something, dont you lose muh privacy?

>not hoovering up your personal data
We've been through this, Sup Forums.
Cuckcuckgo is no better than Joogle. It's run by a Jew that does just as much data napping as Joogle.

then !s it
and I only care about the bangs
alleged privacy is a plus

my only problem with duckduckgo is that it doen't have adult bangs

there's not !x for xvideos for example

if only
they should introduce custom bangs

> the NSA can do whatever they want with them
It dosn't matter since DDG does not collect any personal info in the first place.
They may be subject to the US legal system, but they can't be obliged to give something they don't have.
duckduckgo.com/privacy

> DuckDuckGo used to set a tracking cookie, even though they claimed they didn't
Sauce ? Any evidence this third party was linked to DDG? What was its function? How would DDG deny the existence of this problem and and remove it at the same time?

>Gabriel Weinberg, the founder of DuckDuckGo, used to run the Names Database
This is a sort of trial of intent imo. I can't incriminate someone's product based his past projects. Especially when it's nothing to be ashamed of (a social network website made in the early days of the facebook hype).

duckduckgo.com/newbang

the only thing that stops me using any of these is that I like the look of the google result page.

they don't allow adult bangs
tard

someone should register !x with an engine that has bang like things, but instead uses @, but only for porn website
so, !x @p redirects to pornuhub
!x @x redirects to xvideos
and so on

Just use startpage bro.
