I want to build a new PC after rx 480 release. Should I go for a DDR3 or DDR4 build?

Please include the word "question" somewhere in the post next time.

Well, can you, nerd?

If you don't go DDR4, you'll just regret it afterward. Eventually DDR3 prices will go up so if you want to upgrade in the future, you'll be stuck getting gouged.

There's a broken HP all in one at my place (similar to pic related). It suddenly stopped working, it just shut down and wouldn't turn on again. Mom and dad claim that it's the result of their prayers to god because my brother was getting addicted to it (for using it 6 hours a day), and say it can't be fixed because it's a miracle of the lord.

My brother talked to a couple of smart jackasses who fix computers on their free time, but they said they can't do it because they just do normal computers, not all-in-ones. Even the people at some small HP support center said they couldn't find anything wrong with it (however they're not the actual HP support center, they're just licensed to represent them in this town or something) How easy are these to fix? Is there a place where I can learn a lot about these so I try to fix it myself?

You can't defy the power of The Lord, user.

Looks non-standard to me.

The difference in RAM type practically doesn't matter, choose by whatever your CPU needs.

What's not working with it?

Those people he talked to are shitters. All-in-ones are the most interesting too look inside. You may be able to find a service manual for it.

And six hours a day is nothing if it's not interfering with studies. In the 90s, teenagers averaged that much television.

Post the model.

I meant should I go for a LGA 1150 (DDR3) or LGA 1151 (DDR4) build

Thanks user

That is a BTX form factor board.

This was just something Gateway, Dell, and MPC (now bankrupt) tried to whip up to compete against the ATX standard.

The placement of everything had something to do with thermal issues of the then-current Pentium 4, but then Intel wanted to focus on lower power alternatives (Core), and then BTX was rendered unnecessary.

Unless it's >10% or so more expensive where you live, go 1151.

Not quite BTX, the board sticks out on the top right corner and the CPU socket is in the wrong place.

>Not quite BTX, the board sticks out on the top right corner and the CPU socket is in the wrong place.
Then it's some sort of proprietary garbage offshoot of BTX.

Please rate this build.
I know I should wait until the 1070 comes out so the price drops on the 970, so the reference one is just in there as a placeholder.
I'm thinking of upgrading to 16gb of memory but I'm not sure if that's going to be worth it with the 6400 and 970.

pcpartpicker.com/list/DMgLkT

Don't get a 970 now, AMD's RX 480 is coming out in a few weeks and is expected to be faster, a little more efficient, and only $200. Spend the difference on getting an SSD for storing your OS + frequently used programs, gives a nice improvement in "smoothness".

It's a PC Omni 100 like pic related.

I too believe that there's a vast conspiracy of people my parents paid to pretend it can't be fixed.

>What's not working with it?

Doesn't turn on. Allegedly at the support center they checked every single soldering everywhere and nothing was wrong, but I don't trust them. I'm gonna start from the bottom checking the PSU (if it has anything like that) and the on/off button switch, and then I'll keep looking into more advanced stuff as long as I know what I'm doing. Never really tried to fix an all in one though.

I'm also approaching the magic angle just to be sure, even though I don't even believe in that bullshit. Some softly strange stuff happened around the prayers, and the computer stopped working that same night, so a few people believe that it was actually paranormal. I'm also gonna check with a priest just to have that possibility covered.

Currently taking the Edx introductory course of CC. Why there's a space before the ''print''?
i.e.

indentation.

It means that the print is executed inside the IF statement, not outside.

I am considering the 480 but in the past I've only had nvidia cards and never had any issue. I can't tell how good amd drivers are because I can't really tell when someone is just memeing or if there are any legitimate problems.

As much as I'd like to get those things I have a budget of like $800

Not turning on at all is probably either the PSU or the motherboard dead. PSU is most likely. You can probably find replacements on aliexpress/ebay if HP isn't willing to do anything about it.

If you insist on sticking with nvidia I'd still wait, 480 will likely push used prices down.

Readability.

>budget of like $800
Save 2 more months of savings. You dont have to build now.

What brand of ssds are the best in the 100-200gb range? I am thinking of buying 2 120gb ssds (for my mom and I) and I was curious.

So it can be just a space? not four or five as I thought, very interesting. Thanks!

No, Indentation affects the control flow of a program in python.

typically the standard is 4 spaces per 'indent' so its easier to read. As long as they're consistent it should be okay

I don't really care that much, I'm just really unsure about amd because of the mixed reviews.
In your experience are amd drivers up to date with nvidia's? I feel like even though the AMD cards are on par with their nvidia counterparts in terms of raw performance nvidia manages to gimp them through gameworks.

This is a graduation present from my parents. Max budget is $800 and I don't have any income so I'm not going to be able to save up any more.

Ask for your this years birthday money or next years if you already had one.
$200 is easily a birthday present

Thank you so much.

In my experience the lol amd has no drivers is 90% meme 10% true, they often take a week or two to get a performance / bugfix patch out for new games that nvidia gets a patch out in a couple of days for. Their "gaming evolved" recording / game setting suggestion software is pretty shit in comparison to geforce experience, but they're both not really necessary. The only area where nvidia's drivers are significantly better IMO is for games that haven't been rewritten for ages, for example flight simulator and it's descendents as well as some other simulator games tend to work quite a bit better on an nvidia card.

>Max budget is $800 and I don't have any income so I'm not going to be able to save up any more.
>I don't have any income

What happened to your job?

I'm finishing high school and I never had a job.

Thanks for the information. The only thing I have left to ask is if the 480 will benefit from DX 12 as much as the current line up of AMD cards. If it does then the 480 looks like quite a good deal.

Does anyone know how much the 8gb 480 is going to be? I think the general consensus is $250 but is this just speculation or is there actually a source for this?

how to transfer pale moon profile to regular firefox

I'm trying to setup an SFTP server to run off of my (Windows) laptop, and while I've finally gotten it to work, I can only access my C drive on it. I tried looking up a solution, but the only one I found didn't work. How can I get multiple drives (SSD, HDD, and external, so no just combining them into one single drive) to be accessible on the server?

Have you tried:

copy profile folder,
firefox -p
make new profile
choose folder
select old profile folder
?

If that doesn't work, what about Mozilla Sync? It's encrypted client-side.

Oh, my bad. I could have sworn it didn't.

Anybody know how I can pay for this fucking thing without getting scammed by Avangate? There's no way I'm putting any personal information in that site.

What ever it is it should fit in this case.

I need a 3D room planning tool that allows me to view the rooms like this. Does anything like that exist?

The Sims :^)

Google Sketchup or AutoCAD

nvidia has day one support for pretty much every AAA titles that come out. AMD on the otherhand, can take days/weeks/months to get it optimzed

what are good case fans that arent noctua? i see Sup Forums calling corsair fans bad but never giving any other suggestions

Are there good web based software that protects your books for others to read? I mean, read it for free, but not be able to download them?

AutoDesk Revit.

I've got an AMD FX 6300 running 3.9 and an nVidia GTX 960. Should I consider building a new computer, or buy some better cooling equipment and OC the shit out of both of them?

Just look for hydro dynamic bearings

How do you calibrate a monitor? I know you need a tool to test the display, but then how do you actually get around to implementing new settings? My monitor only offers RGB level editing in its OSD, and the display color settings inside the AMD drivers aren't much better.

Noiseblocker

Just as expensive as nocmeme though.

Where do I go to buy internet 'lines' so I can resell it?
I'm not even sure what the proper terminology is for this.
What am I supposed to be looking for?
I'm pretty sure I could blow my local ISP the fuck out if I just got 1gb/s for 1k a month.

If you have to ask here you can't afford it.

I can so! Don't you doubt me!

>I could blow my local ISP the fuck out if I just got 1gb/s for 1k a month

I hope you're not talking about money because that speed is worth like nine bucks a month, not a thousand.

Pls respond, I found some wordpress addons, but I'm not sure which one is safe, one that protects the pdf from being downloaded and such. Or are there services that do this for a small fee?

Would a dual antenna N300 wifi card give better signal than a single antenna N150 card?

Whenever I'm downloading porn from kickass I run into a lot of javascrip or something viruses (according to avast). Avast stops every single one of them and I can wank and edge with peace of mind. If I decide to change to Linux next week, what stops those viruses from fucking my shit up?

...

probably

user, they charge 65$ a month for 15 / 1 MB/s and I don't even get that speed.
Isn't it great to be american?

any of the large membership addons can help protect downloads; i use s2member, that just blocks any other IP other than the IP that bought the PDF

there's probably 3 other ones that would work too, like Paid Memberships Pro and Easy Digial Downloads

>1gbp/s
>$9 a month

Man, I wish I lived wherever you are.

Nice, but are there any that are open for everyone to read, but not allow downloads? Or I mean, I know preventing that is hard as fuck, but are there any, even with paid, any that allow free reading of the book, but makes it hard to download?

Check your folder permissions

Its great till we cross the trans-atlantic lines and get in to your shit infested slow as fuck lines

Viruses won't get you because in Linux, even if you somehow make the browser work, javascript still won't.

Javascript isnt what is preventing it.
The file wont have execute permissions, it wont be able to execute, unless you're running as root, in which, i have no sympathy for you

I have WOW internet and I pay for there best package, 300 down, 20 up, when I use wifi I get better than what I'm paying for speeds but the latency is poor for muh games.
So me and the roomamtes bought netgear powerline 1200 adapters so we could all have wired connections on our desktops but something seems to be capping our speeds at around 60 down when using them.
Can anyone point me in the right direction to fix this issue?

>capping our speeds

Anyone else's chromium started acting funny during the last couple days?

Everything was perfectly fine but for some reason it's completely screwed up now, it *always* freezes up and eats up loads of CPU when i want to watch a video on youtube or load up spotify or something and i can't right-click either when this happens

I already tried updating pepperflash (it was version 20.0 before and now it's the newest one) manually but to no avail

I'd really like to know what caused this though, like why would a perfectly fine browser fuck itself up for no reason

It's such a shame too because up to this point chromium was by far the most reliable and stable browser in my opinion, but not anymore i guess

Will my GTX 970 be able to last the next 3 years on 1080p only? High/med 60 fps

Just got this card and I don't want to sell and buy a 1070.

Hey so, I'm thinking about the possibilities of a home server.

I want a central computer for serving up Plex streams, NAS, handling backups for computers on the network and maybe seeding torrents. I'd also like it to be capable of hosting FTP and game servers, though those aren't things I'm interested in doing in the near future.

The first thing I'm thinking about is which OS to use. I hear FreeNAS and Linux thrown around a lot, but some people also seem to think Windows is adept at server tasks too. I'm completely unfamiliar with the former two, but I'm willing to learn them if they're the better options. Especially Linux, as it's always been a blind spot in my computer knowledge.

What does Sup Forums think of AvE?

Downgrade when it wasnt shit

>$300
Damn, that's actually a pretty good program, but I don't know if I'll be using it forever, just on my relative's books that he wants. Though others have already scanned and distributed his books.

But is there no online service that allows his books to be displayed to read, but hard to download? Like soundcloud does, though it was very easy to download music from soundcloud a while ago, even though they had a price tag on.

A real skookum choocher if there ever was one

You can't.
It's the Striesand Effect, you either put your stuff out there and people will find a way, or you don't put it out there at all

Many of those are different paths, and would generally not be on one server,as you want a low latency media server, but at the same time you want memory and disk thrashing programs at the same time, in addition to opening it up to the network, potenially causing the loss of data, if someone were to get in to your ftp and/or firewall

Never opted to use freenas. Everything it requires is very easy to setup, and dosent have a single poinf of failure.

Get a storage medium that will hold the amount of data you want, then throw in a raid card, depending on how many disks you're using create a raid-5 or raid-6 +1 hotspare

Debian would be a good distro to start with.

Kinda spoke too soon, wanted to add that:
>you can put the book on any format, PDF, epub, mp3, whatever. SOMEONE is going to find a way to archive it if they truly want it. You CAN download just about everything, even protected Flash animations and bad angle movies.

I guess, I was thinking that too. Guess I have to talk to him about it and see what he thinks.

He told me that people were taking his books and just scanning and distributing it, but then he told me to scan his books together and put it online professionally so people would at least, read it from there. But there's no way to protect them unless you're going to sell your books and use a service like brytewave or a publisher I guess.

What's a good amplifier to power a pair of Micca MB42X?

So it would make more sense to relegate some of those roles to a separate machine? Which ones?

I've just never been a networking guy, so this whole thing is pretty unfamiliar to me.

Within the last week or so, my headphones have started producing a strange crackling/buzzing sound whenever there's no sound playing through them.
Sound quality doesn't seem any different.
The crackling stops if I mute all sounds, or if I play any audio (even if the audio file is complete silence.)

Are my headphones just dying? They're a couple years old.
It just seems odd to me that the crackling would only happen when my computer is both unmuted and not playing anything.

A good place to start is:
wiki.installgentoo.com/index.php/Setting_up_a_Server

my guess is something's up with the connector.

I've known speakers and headphones to sometimes emit a soft but audible buzzing sound, when you set them to max volume and they're not playing anything.

I always setup my systems modular, keep that in mind.
I would put the ftp on a chroot/container thats isolated from the rest of your network and the system its running on. This would be fine with the media server,as you need to move media to the serving folder. Media server will transcode if needed and thats a hit to your cpu

>torrents
Grab a seedbox, that way you just have to import the data to your media server(use ssh/scp/ftp/etc), and your isp wont be on your ass about torrents.Plus you have higher uptime, and you can send it torrents if you arent at home from your phone etc

>games
Depends on what you want to run.
quake/unreal put it on the same server
Modded minecraft? hell no,that will rape your ram and cpu hard.

How should I tile my foam panels?

I have $100 AUD to spend on ebay. Last week I purchased a $100 AUD eBay voucher code for $85.

What do I buy with it? I was thinking about buying a Windows 8.1 Pro DVD & Key on eBay.

But I think I don't want to. I downloaded Win10_1511_Education_N_English_x64 for free and I'll Keygen it. Should I buy a legit Windows OS and upgrade?

A hair got into the driver membrane. It happened to my Grado SR60i's and obviously there's hair inside it. Like when the bass is played loudly I would hear mosquito buzzing noises with the bass. It's hair.

They're wireless headphones, and the dongle is USB.
I'll try reseating it anyway.

>A hair got into the driver membrane
Not familiar with audio terminology.
I imagine it's underneath the cushions that sit against one's ears?

Yeah. It could be difficult to open and check though.

With my five year old Grados it was difficult. I was forced to remove the white cloth that covers my drivers. And then I used thin strips of sticky tape and a toothpick to dab and remove hairs.

Anyone here use Ghostery for android browsing?

I can't figure out how to download a link to something like an mp3.

I don't have anything specific in mind for a game server. It's not even something I'm interested in doing right now, I just don't want it to be a pain in the ass if I do decide to later on. If so, it would probably be for unreal or maybe terraria.

The two main things I want out of it for the time being are a NAS and a transcoding Plex server.
