what do you think about the way programming/computer-related themes are depicted in culture (movies, vidya, tv shows etc.)?
I think we still have a very long way to go, not in the least bit due to the fact that companies try to pander to the "tech-savvy" crowd with pseudo-edgy cyber gimmicks.
Almost every field has this issue. Maths, physics, chemistry, hell, even philosophy, religion, politics.
It's easier and more interesting (to the clueless watcher) to just pander to a stereotype instead of showing what it actually is.
Alexander Campbell
Good point. I myself don't mind a bit of exaggeration; sometimes fictionalizing reality makes it much more potent and epxressive. That being said, I just feel a lot of storytwriting is extremely childish and revolves around one-dimensional characters. Interesting to see female/gay protagonists but they have to be so fucking cringe-worthy, flat and pretentiously self-righteous?
Eli Morris
Wow, playing as a white guy AGAIN
Bentley Anderson
>Nigger hacker Jesus that's retarded. I know it's fiction, but come on, there's a limit. If you want to gain SJW points for diversity make them an asian FFS.
Samuel Adams
He's a nigger, but not a female, so it won't win SJW points. If the game was going for SJW points, it'd be a black guy who discovers over the course over his hacking adventure that xhe was actually a transgender xir all along. Then it ticks all boxes.
Jeremiah Mitchell
First gaymen to feature gender change when?
Jeremiah Reyes
he's going to hack his genitals apart
Eli Reyes
Xir is a nigger, shitlord
Anthony Rivera
If the Hollyjews depicted the reality of computer hacking, it would make for very boring material.
Smashing on a keyboard with two people is more entertaining.
John Clark
In wow you can change your gender for money. So its like rl
Cameron Roberts
He still looks white.
Jordan Perez
listen here you little transniggerphobe shit
Jose Peterson
The last asian in a free roam game would be the cop from Sleeping Dogs, and before that was the triad guy from Chinatown Wars. If anything, asians would probably star with ninja gimmicks than blackhat skills.
Jayden Wilson
Asians are privileged. they're considered smarter, and commonly accepted into major universities and jobs. Asian families, especially the Chinese, have much more money and can afford American housing, and are in much higher earning and tax brackets on average. why should they be represented? they are just under whites on the privilege scale.
Eli Thomas
The Greatest Nigger in the history of digital entertainment.
Lucas Morris
I guess people don't want to play games or watch movies where the hacker just walks into a server room, puts in a usb drive, enters a password he already knew because it happens to be his work place, eat a subway sandwich while the info loads up on his usb, then give a bored "sigh" as he walks out to sell the info to some faggot so he can go get more cocaine.
>welcome to San Francisco >play as user, a late-20s age C artisan >join the most notorious hacker group, the IT department >your objective: the servers are down and the office isn't sure why
Jason Edwards
>Asians are privileged. they're considered smarter, and commonly accepted into major universities and jobs. Asian families, especially the Chinese, have much more money and can afford American housing, and are in much higher earning and tax brackets on average. only a fraction of asians immigrate to the us, the rest of the billion dumb chinks stay in their mainland
Hunter Baker
This trailer is cringe overkill. It's like those edgy Christians who visit schools and talk about "keeping it real with God". Even considering the shitty standards of Ubisoft, it's fucking depressing; I'm 100% convinced the game will be utter shit.
Robert Morgan
>CGI trailer >shows no real gameplay mechanics or story other than "le haxx XD" I'm convinced as well, unless they do something to gain their players' trust back, maybe a beta or something
Nathaniel Torres
How many levels of turn it off and on again would there be
Josiah Diaz
All of them
Lincoln Stewart
What about games like TIS-100 and Hacknet?
Anthony Scott
Ubisoft is notorious for downgrading games. Watch Dogs turned out to be shit, but the first trailer and gameplay were quite good. This time the first trailer is horrendous pg-13 level fuckery -- I could barely stomach it.
