Renderers? Filters? **CODEC PACKS**? What do I need to watch my MKVs that default mpc-hc won't run?

install mpv

Wait is mpv available for windows?

mpv

Is it really worth getting it on windows?

cccp

MPC-HC is a proprietary shitware, MadVR is made by a huuuge fucking faggot who likes to take at least 20 at a time.

Use MPV, faster, lighter, better image quality. No need to setup a fuckton of plugins and garbageware, just add shit to your config file, and it will do it better than anything else.

Unusable for me, needs updating...........

>MPV
>better image quality than MPC-HC with madVR
How?

V L C
L
C

yes

vlc

Better lanczos filters, no lag. Better luma upscaling, no lag, even with shit hardware and 256 neurons. An overall sharper image.

VLC doesn't even know how to decompress an image correctly.

>Use MPV
opengl is shit

Hardware is not my issue, and I use mpc-hc and madvr, not vlc

>Use MPC-HC
directx is shit.

yes
yes

What is that shit? Get it out of here, Windows supports ordinary MPV.

Opengl is worse

>directx is shit.
Yeah.

OpenGL > SDL > Libcaca > DirectX

That's not what framerates, and multicore usage say.

>Better luma upscaling, no lag, even with shit hardware and 256 neurons
Not true: tested on HD3000 with 7GB 720p

mpv uses directx on winblows

>Micro stuttering
>Better

>blows
?
but what about muh gaymes :(

>Micro stuttering
never had that

Can't you come up with a better lie? I mean seriously, is it that important that you're seen as right anonymously online?

what is angle?
mpv nightly builds use directx on windows, unless you add es=no!

Bullshit they do. This is the latest nightly, you're completely full of shit.

I bet you can't even see aliasing either, get eyes.

ninite.com/
choose "CCCP" works great. don't get klite,

you're completely retarded!
ask devs if you don't believe me, or gtfo

How do I play a playlist in mpv? Like a season of a show. I currently use potplayer.

If that's a new feature, well great for them, but OpenGL still works fine for me latest nightly.

that's not a nightly build
this is nightly - bitbucket.org/rorgoroth/mpv-for-windows/downloads

He's right. An mpv build with ANGLE will use Direct3D for rendering by default, even if you're using vo=opengl-hq, because ANGLE translates OpenGL ES calls to Direct3D. This is helpful for working around shitty OpenGL drivers, and trust me, all vendors have shitty OpenGL drivers, though Nvidia is the least shitty. If you believe your OpenGL drivers not to be shitty, you will be able to go back to the old native OpenGL backends with backend=win, backend=dxinterop or es=no, but the default will be to use ANGLE.

That's the latest release, it's not a nightly, and the release builds from mpv.srsfckn.biz don't have ANGLE yet. There are a bunch of unofficial sites that have newer mpv builds and ANGLE, or you could build it yourself, or you could just wait for 0.18.0 to come out (the mpv.srsfckn.biz build for 0.18.0 will probably have ANGLE.)

fuck all that bullshit, follow my two step foolproof plan here:

Codec packs are so 2011. If you must use MPC-HC, just use the official MPC-HC installer from the website (it comes with LAV) and install madVR.

mpv is fucking meme
>drop files to play them
>no proper playlist
>no automatic subtitle download
Why even bother

>don't get klite
why not?

>What do I need to watch my MKVs that default mpc-hc won't run?
Literally nothing.

Wow, it's almost like Windows users want to be running Linux.

>>drop files to play them
Or open them from your shell with globs. Or open them by double clicking on them in your file manager like a normal person. There is also a user script to use a regular file picker on Windows.

>>no proper playlist
No GUI playlist. This is probably your only legitimate criticism because graphical playlist editors are arguably the best reason to use a GUI video player. If you use mpv and you want these, use a GUI frontend like Baka MPlayer.

>>no automatic subtitle download
Wrong. There's at least two user scripts for this.

How do I make MVP look better than my madvr setup wi/ mpc

hardware is not issue i have top end hw.

Will look into this. Thanks senpai

No problem kohai.

>use a GUI frontend like Baka MPlayer.
Thanks!

check user shaders

Well MPCHC comes with LAV Filters built in now, so unless you like bleeding edge or something, there's no need to get any codec separately anymore. Just download madVR and xySubfilter, then set up MPCHC to use them and you should be golden. If you want an alternative player, try MPDN. I don't really recommend it though since it will probably take a lot of trial and error to set it up right, whereas everyone already uses madVR and posts their setups, so it's easy to configure.

mpv is for Linux users, do not listen to any of these faggots.

gtfo, filthy normie

I'm happy with this config
vo=opengl-hq:user-shaders="~~/SSimSuperRes.glsl":scale=ewa_lanczossharp:interpolation
hwdec=auto
video-sync=display-resample

Which is better: Mpv, MPC-HC, Potplayer, VLC?

I'm just telling it like it is. Personally, I disabled the built in stuff and use external LAV Filters and also a separate audio renderer, but for a typical user, that's totally unnecessary.

That reminds me, has anyone made a Vulkan video renderer yet? That would be a fun thing to try out.

mpv

end of thread.

SVP for silky smooth 60fps animu

Why is he so popular?

cause linux sux

>has anyone made a Vulkan video renderer yet?
ANGLE, which is used by mpv

because mpv is the mvp

But on Windows, Potplayer better.

I wouldn't say ANGLE works on Vulkan yet. It's literally just been stubbed out. See: github.com/google/angle/blob/master/src/libANGLE/renderer/vulkan/FramebufferVk.cpp

Someday ANGLE might have a Vulkan renderer, and it would be interesting to see if it performs better than ANGLE/D3D11 on Windows or if it's worth using over native GL on Linux. A D3D12 renderer in ANGLE would be interesting for the same reasons, but neither exist yet.

It has a lot of aspects that appeal to certain Sup Forums users. It's a command-line app. It's scriptable. It's lightweight. It's 100% FOSS. It's cross-platform and it provides high-quality video rendering to platforms that wouldn't otherwise have it, like macOS and Linux. I'm sure you're aware that there are macOS and Linux users on Sup Forums. For them, mpv is the best player by a wide margin. (I also think it's better than MPC-HC/madVR, but not by as wide of a margin.)

Not everyone likes it though, and there are aspects of it that are huge turnoffs for winplebs, like having to learn how to use the command prompt to get full use out of it and having to modify a text file to change settings.

opened thread expecting first post to be >mpv and was not disappointed

And what can you say about MPC-HC?

It's more of an Sup Forums meme than a Sup Forums meme. Blame HOW_DO_I_PLAYED_BACK.txt

OP here, came back to a shitstorm as expected, does mpv allow for constant pitch time stretching and borderless windowed viewing like mpc-hc?

Okay, and Potplayer good? Many who advises.

No idea.

Yep.

as long as it doesn't take hours to configure :^)

Constant pitch time stretching works OOTB. Borderless windowed mode will require you to create a config file with no-border in it.

Search for setup guides on MPC-HC and madVR, there are w ton on the Internet

great, shouldn't be too hard then

Does baka mplayer have playback speed function like vlc? This is an important function for me.

VLC :^)

>mpv is for Linux users, do not listen to any of these faggots.

When will this meme stop. Installing mpv on Windows is infinitely easier then installing MPDN/MPC-HC+Madvr, and it's also easier to portable to other computer.
