Make Sup Forums great again

Sup Forums has too long been infested with Windows gamer kiddies. It's time to purge them once and for all.

Any of the following regularly occurring threads on Sup Forums is either directly or indirectly about Windows gaming:

* Intel vs. AMD threads
* GPU threads
* Various types of rig/battlestation/guts/Speccy threads ("What parts should I buy, /g?" "Is this part good, Sup Forums?" "Check out my specs, Sup Forums.")
* All Windows discussion and support threads (obviously)

These threads only serve to discuss products for playing video games. They have nothing to do with programming, networking, security, privacy, freedom, design, usability, or anything else Sup Forums related.

These threads and the people who post within them belong in either or as they are the appropriate boards in which to discuss their hobby, along with "console war" and "PC vs. console" threads. This should be Rule #4 for Sup Forums and it should be aggressively enforced until the children finally get it and move on.

This is the thread to petition Hiroshimoot to cure the Sup Forums cancer in Sup Forums. If you really care about technology and not just vapid consumerism, help by adding your voice to this discussion.

We can do it, Sup Forums.

Sup Forums is NOT a tech support board.
Sup Forums is NOT a consumer review site.

I agree OP

>vapid consumerism
But that's how Sup Forums is living user

Remove Maki too.

She's fucking shit

OP here. I don't disagree

Then also stop the windows hate, fucking stupid having people who can't accept any OS that isn't their main.
>inb4 try Linux XDDD
I have and it's not abysmal, I just don't find it comfy.

Nothing wrong with using windows, But we don't want this board to become a typical tech support site.

Honestly, Mac users get the most irrational hate and most of the hate comes from windows users

PLEASE HELP US HIROSHIMOOT

>nothing wrong with using windows

>trying to curb freedumb of speech on an all-American forum

Fuck off, OP.

>Vim vs emacs
>SCREENFETCH THREAD
>Which distro is best distro
>WM or DE?

fuck off dude

>freedom
This is just as bad and just as meme-tier as all the other shit you mentioned.

At least they're related to actual technology and not LE VIDYA.

...

To be perfectly honest there really isn't; I just hate how people come onto Sup Forums to show off their "l33t g@m1ng" pc and discuss video games while there is already a board dedicated to that topic.

fuck off DICKHEAD

...

An hiro should make a separate board for consumerism if we are to get rid of the spam.

Threads like those you mention could perfectly fit there and be banned here, without the telemarketers going full killer mode against us.

Everyone happy.

I wish the biggest proponents of Sup Forums's much needed pleb-cull weren't all free software partisans, I just want to discuss software and hardware, not ethics or ideologies or legal nitpicking, take that shit to That said, Windows discussion should still be heavily moderated simply because it's a natural retard magnet, a lot of it really is just gaymes/tech support/shill blogging. Really, all OS/platform discussion in general should be moderated, OS wars are practically babby's first technology argument, they do fucking nothing and contribute fucking nothing.

But seriously, fuck the Sup Forums plebs, I can barely have a discussion in this place about something I find enjoyable about my hobbies that don't make games and 10-bit cartoons go fast without being interrogated and asked to present an essay-length justification for my actions.

Blame the Microsoft telemarketers, they shipost GNU/Linux threads, harass users and spam every thread nonstop.

Fucking CANCER.

There are no mods on Sup Forums.
Even if they are they dont know shit about computing in general and dont know what to ban

>Runs out of argument
>Ad hominem

there's no greater tech discussion that goes on in Sup Forums that is being bogged down by video game talk

GPU threads are terrible and really should be banned I agree.

But beyond that, there's nothing about the gamer focused stuff that is drastically less technical than 90% of the discussions on Sup Forums.

Never gonna happen, it doesn't even make sense. If you want to ban tech support threads that's one thing but graphics cards, Intel and/or AMD, and windows threads are on topic.

God I never thought I'd say it. But I really miss the ricing threads.

How about, we create more threads that actually deal with things like: AI, Security, Programming, etc. And actually participate in them.

Gets 404'd because of massive circlejerking in speccy threads

Your thread will either
>get overrun with Sup Forumsedditors, especially if it's a pop sci topic like AI or a similarly broad topic with low barrier of entry and high "consumer friendliness"
>get derailed by Sup Forumsedditor bikeshedding/trolling
>get sent straight to page 11 due to poor timing or getting drowned out by low-effort troll/attention beg threads engineered for (You)s
>get sent straight to page 11 from lack of interest because everyone who would have discussed it left the board long ago

Though you still can have a good thread or two, and for most people (myself included) that's good enough, it's still not going to drown out the cancer, and honestly seeing the catalog in the state it's in, or going into an interesting thread topic and seeing it derailed by a torrent of "BUT THIS WON'T MAKE MY GAMES GO FAST YOU STUPID HIPSTER" is really aggravating sometimes. There's a reason most internet communities are moderated.

and yet that board has nothing to do with games.

Last I heard, moot sold this place and the new guy was a incompetent or something of that nature. Just a guy passing through though.

>Page 11
Only 10 pages

The last 1 or 2 threads on the catalog are always shown as being on "Page 11" right before they drop off to the archive.

nobody will post in those threads, if you want discussion you have to go to reddit or hacker news

so, basically ONLY software. Oh, i'm sorry, I thought this board was about ALL technology.

None of the forums on Sup Forums are on topic.

Congratulations on making yet another Windows thread.

Would you also partake in creating another Linux thread that is actually a Windows thread in disguise, or will you instead fuck off?

you can discuss hardware without sucking corporate dick, shitposting or regurgitating memes you know, people do it all the time, there's more to engineering than "this thing is dum DUM THING IS ON SUICIDE WATCH"

yes they are, besides, how is that an excuse for being a dumb piece of shit making dumb shitty threads?

>but by calling out shitposting and asking for something to be done about it you gave them SOME EXTRA ATTENTION HAHA GOTCHA THE SHILLS WIN AGAIN
The mental gymnastics shitposters go through to defend their cancer is incredible

bullshit, all you want to do is get rid of anything relating to games.

hey OP you seem to know your shit, should I sli the rx 480 or buy a single gtx 1080 for arch linux gaming?

As much as I love maki-chann shes being used as a symbol of the linux-hating windows plebs.

anime micro devices!

Upvoted. Let's do this.

replace maki with mugi

Why is it bad if the technology discussed is used for games? I don't really understand.

You might as well ban discussion of ebooks, music players, tablets, smartphones, and literally all other consumer technology, since these items are all mainly used for things not-Sup Forums related. Trying to draw a hard line will never work.

I haven't been on Sup Forums but like twice in my many years on this site, but I definitely agree. I saw some fucking post about Linux on the homepage tonight and then I realized that this board could be good. Sup Forums is for gaming.

I like the threads about FOSS, and actual discussion of hardware. What even is the point about talking about Windows unless you're developing for it or talking about how it doesn't do what Unix-like systems can? There is no point, so let's not post about it. I'm pretty retarded but I hope this board can enlighten me.

>GPUs are only used to play video games
gb2v

Games are not necessarily the problem, they're just software, and ultimately no different from wasting away in front of TV shows and YouTube, but "gamers" are cancer.

They make the majority of Sup Forums's generals, so they can blog about their shitty builds 24/7.

They start most of the shitposting threads because they know nothing else and only come here for attention and arguing, rather than to have a good time discussing their hobbies with other like-minded individuals in a casual atmosphere.

They start most of the tech support threads because they don't give a shit about technology as long as their games go fast.

They start most of the recommendation threads, not even always because they're too dumb to use google, but because they want attention and praise.

They're the biggest fanboys, they make the most retarded posts, they have no passion, and they don't belong here.

There should be a programming board. Sup Forums's main problem is the two speed issue. one segment posts slowly (programming) but gaming/consumer related threads move fast because of shitposters and flaming. That's why there's an entire retro gaming board yeah? There's lots of interest but people post slowly so it needs it own board, otherwise the threads die too quickly if they're in Sup Forums. Idk it just makes sense to me to have a slow programming board.... keep Sup Forums the way it is let the consumer/power user stuff stay but there should be a place for hobby devs and others who want to have a differently paced discussion. Who else is interested in this?

There used to be /prog/ and it was deader than shit.

>split off programming and leave the rest of us who discuss actual technology to languish in neo-Sup Forums
Please, no. Just fucking cull the fanboys and bait, and the retards who feed them (You)s, that's pretty much all you need to do.

That just seems like more work than having two different board for two different things. I wouldn't expect /prog/ to be more active than the porn boards, maybe /o/ or /k/ level active. I think it's clear that enough hobby dev related threads are on Sup Forums to warrant it's own board. Also how do you 'cull fanboys' how does that work? You are just saying something that you want to happen not offering a plan to get there.

Oops replied to myself meant to reply to

Can we get a consumer/tech product board already

ma/g/a, OP. I just wish Sup Forums directed its' retards to one single general so some of us can filter that shit.

>all American forum
>Japanese carpentry forum

The problem I have with the "just split off programming" route is that it leaves people like me with nowhere to go. Sure, the majority of people here who know their shit are also probably programmers, but not all the "proper" technology discussion you can have is necessarily development-centric. What about people like me that enjoy civil hardware discussions? Where do I go when I want to talk about exotic architectures, computing history, tinkering or software that isn't my own work? Sup Forums minus /prog/ wouldn't reply, or I would see my thread flooded with shitposting. /prog/ would tell me to fuck off elsewhere either because it's off-topic and a waste of their time when they could be helping a fellow CS undergrad with their homework or trendy website. /diy/ doesn't seem very suitable for "higher level" hardware projects since it isn't really quite an instant catch for those types of posters.

>You are just saying something that you want to happen not offering a plan to get there.
What exactly do you want? An itemized list? Most of the garbage is pretty obvious, low effort, so simple and inflaming because of it that replies are guaranteed. For example, the good ol' image/link+one-liner meme, "is X a meme?", "should I buy X?" and variants, poo in the loo, etc.

Then you have retarded questions like "what's the best X for $Y?", "rate my build", et al.

And off-topic garbage like maki/akariposting

And the fucking generals, /ptg/, /guts/, /bst/, and other shit that have just become stagnant pits of memes and reposted blogs.

>Also how do you 'cull fanboys' how does that work?
OS/platform wars, GPU/CPU wars, and the accompanying low-effort fallacious shitposts that accompany them.

hide threads you don't like

covering the cancer isn't the chemo

Yeah I agree with many of your points, but exotic architectures, interesting software and computing history all sound like things that belong in /prog/ though. They all centre around programming, except for civil hardware discussion which seems to usually be consumerist/game orientated so you're right about that one. /prog/ is not /dev/ it's about software/programming/development combined so you still get all the things you like just on a seperate board with different comment styles (longer and slower and more in depth).

re the second point, you're plan is to get the mods to do all the work. The mods work pretty hard already and they do it for free so I really don't expect them to just work harder because you personally don't like some shitposters. If you actually want something to happen you need to make it as simple as possible, also censorship is not a Sup Forums thing, you get the good and the bad, But blue boards should be able to seperate different kinds of good and bad, paragraph long posts shouldn't be in the same thread as mass shitposting, that's really the point of /prog/, not to take away the shit but to sort it into two different piles.

You GNU+Linux elitists are so autistic it's laughable. I was in an IRC and discussing which distribution I should try out as a Windows user that wants to try out GNU+Linux and they started talking shit about Windows, and I am perfectly agreeable to talking shit about real issues, but non issues are just silly to talk about. For example, security is a real issue, Microsoft and thus the government are able to access screenshot by screenshot of my computing activity through packets my computer sends to Microsoft, and one would be dense not to think that other people that knew how to sniff my packets accordingly may be looking at this kind of information as well. This is a real problem and I understand why you would want to use some thing more secure, and I say more secure because you're dense if you don't think that anything with an internet connection is 100% safe and I don't see many people here using free distributions as Richard Stallman suggests.

The main thing these people were harping on me about was that Windows 10 has "ads", as in if Win 10 offers you to try Office 365 in a system notification it's an ad, and I don't approve of that level of bloatware but I was in fact able to turn that off and that was the only and last ad on Windows 10. The only other thing you might consider an "ad" is that on a fresh Windows 10 installation the Windows 10 Store is pinned to your taskbar. I unpinned it. Problem solved. They kept talking about how the lockscreen has ads, it doesn't. They couldn't say anything about Windows being the superior OS for gaming.

When I said that I use Windows because it works for me, a mod said that he was going to be nice and not ban a retard like me, but was going to filter me and strongly suggest my removal, all this only from admitting that Windows has its flaws but there were a lot of good things that I use Windows for. I love Windows, it has what I need and ever since 7 I haven't had any problems getting done what I need done. Fuck Autism.

Does anyone have some good filters to hide all this shit?

Maybe. I don't know, for the exotic hardware/computing history examples, I tend to be more interested in the hardware than the software, its design, its specific advantages, and the systems based on it, I don't know if that kind of discussion would really be fitting for a /prog/ board or if it would just get shitposted off of it. Software, probably, you could definitely find a place for it, but honestly /prog/ would probably become a haven for freetard types that cry into their keyboard every time they see a license that doesn't agree with their utopian fantasy, and it would be even more magnified than Sup Forums as it currently is.

>The mods work pretty hard already and they do it for free so I really don't expect them to just work harder because you personally don't like some shitposters.
Neither do I, that's why I wasn't presenting a more specific goal in the first place, since I know they wouldn't go through with it. Though I do think this board could do with some more janitors, hell, I would do it for free, but I think the application process has pretty bullshit requirements? I remember looking at it once and one of the prerequisites was never being banned, no wonder moderation is so lacking and the janitors that do make it are usually insane.

>also censorship is not a Sup Forums thing, you get the good and the bad
Where did you get that from? I'm not advocating the censorship of any topic or interest, and proper moderation, i.e. throwing meme-spouting retards who derail threads they don't like and shit up the discussion with fallacious low-effort tripe back over the fence to Reddit, is not censorship, at least in the negative context you present it. Sup Forums is not a haven of "free speech", it never was.

You can't really blame the shit Windows users get in these kinds of discussions, as retarded as I think it is as well, it has the largest market share on the desktop, so you're bound to get a lot of retards who use it, especially on this site.

Well, what annoys me is that I see people complain about shit in Windows that I can fix easily, or shit that isn't even an issue in Windows. As a Windows user, if there is something I want to change, I change it. I have respect for GNU+Linux but not the fan club that makes the transition cringe worthy.

Same here, half of the anti-windows shitposting is as dumb as the anti-GNU/Linux shitposting, and both camps are basically retards who can't use either.

They're both nice platforms, can't we just get along, weigh their pros and cons respectfully and intelligently, and enjoy technology together?

Pic related. Ayy lmao blaze it faggot.

>implying ganoolinooks threads aren't retard magnets
>implying the users that have completely stopped using Windows aren't the biggest bunch of autismal manchildren on this board

Thanks for proving our point so handily.

Sup Forums is a shitposting board :^)

>To be perfectly honest there really isn't
I guess it's time for the windows pasta.

>inb4 tl;dr
Educate yourself before saying there's nothing wrong with windows.

...

But it IS technology. So fuck off

...

talking about windows should be permitted. There's a lot of things to say. But we're criticizing the fact that people just create windows threads to shill and shitpost, without any point, saying there is no botnet, it's great and better than linux that is shit etc.
They can talk about windows as much as they want if they were actually talking about it, its features, etc. like linux users does on the /fglt/, but they mostly doesn't and just shitpost.

...

...

there should be less consumerism threads

this is all well and good but im definitely not switching to a shit OS like linux that im frankly too retarded to get started using. All i even do is play video games and watch porn. So whatever

Sadly that myth still exist. I wonder when it will go away.

And about video games, if gamers asked devs to make decent port, linux would be a better gaming platform than windows.

Thank you!

but windows already does that job, so theres no reason at all to switch to an inferior platform.

Underrated
