I have a desktop for that and it's more powerful than any laptop can ever hope to be. While costing less.

What the fuck is your excuse for being so fucking poor and stupid that you don't build a high-powered desktop and then buy a 2-in-1 or Ultraportable laptop to complement it?

...

Bad airflow. Becomes redundant quick.

>implying

>Becomes redundant quick.
What?

...

I don't have $1000 to spend on a computer to shit post and watch videos on.

>he doesn't have both

Is english your first language?

Gaming laptops have far better airflow than any typical thin and light ultrabook or fruity toy shit.

>using a more expensive, less powerful, overheating and shitty looking version of something that my desktop is already objectively better at doing instead of using my laptop as a true portable device with a long battery life
It's like you're actually mentally retarded.

Honestly, I just don't have the space for a desktop
Probably gonna be one of my first purchases when I get a new place.
For now I make do with an Asus with a geforce 840m

So much arguing over the justifucations of owning a powerful laptop, i guess if it may be of any help to clear things up ill explain why i have owned two gaming laptops thus far.
I am 19 years old, work a full time job making 21$/hr in Texas, USA. A year ago i graduated highschool and was going into college for Process Tech. I found myself never at home between College, 12hr shifts Friday, Saturday, and Sunday and a healthy relationship with my gf. The only time i ever had to play games and work on my c++ was between classes and at my gfs so i decided to sell my rig that was going to waste at home and buy a laptop. Anyways i realized all the compromises of a laptop and yet i knew that i was getting the best experience i could given my situation.
Since then i have got my job as an Operator and even still i work Mon-Friday 8 hrs a day and im off only every other weekend usally due to a lot of overtime. Between doing work around my parents house as a form of rent until i move out and spending time at my gfs, i do not have a lot of time to sit in front of a desktop so again i decided to get a new laptop. The reason i mentioned my wage is to justify the cost of a gaming laptop. Saving while living at home means i was able to save up enough that a 3k gaming laptop isnt a huge expense right now considering i can make that back in a month and have no bills to speak of besides gas/food/dates.
Yes they are bulky and Yes they are loud and hot but its the tradeoff for being able to bring it anywhere and get in whatever pc time you are allowed.
TLDR; i dont have time for a desktop and it doesnt make sense for me to own one in place of a laptop.

>non-upgradable
>there are better alternatives for portability than carrying a 2-3 kg gaming laptop
>bad heat dissipation

And of course:
>price

Speccy?

>pre-built
That's why.

My desktop needs a new GPU and I'm waiting for the 1080 prices to go down, or deciding whether I should wait for the Ti/Vega.

How powerful is it when its unplugged eh?

My laptop is going to be replaced by the XPS 15 at some point, or the next-gen Surface Book. Haven't decided. However right now, with the intel integrated graphics it gets a good 8 hours of battery life because when I bought it, I sprung for the extra large battery pack.

It's served me well, but it's long in the tooth and I don't need its workstation capabilities anymore.

how much you want for it?

>good looking out of the box

It can run at full power for about 30 minutes with the UPS its hooked up to.
>portable gaming
Lol, go fucking kill yourself.

I ain't selling to some fucker on Sup Forums. Besides, I've already got a co-worker lined up who wants it.

yep you sure got me with your amazing razor-sharp whit and derogatory comments towards me.

Boy I wish I was as smart and rich as you to make such sound and concise decisions.
Christ it's not your money why are you getting so angry over this?

> (You)

Some people have friends and enjoy carrying a thin light machine with them to play with instead of a 50lb desktop, monitor, and cables.

I've went the desktop + cheap laptop route, and it sucked dick. I moderately powerful laptop is much nicer and convient.

Lol geez i was just asking
you don't have to be rude to random people on the internet user, it's, well, rude.

>whit

What's the point of backlit keyboard on a fucking laptop? It just drains the battery

>random people on the internet
So why do I care?

seriously what's up with the sudden influx of Sup Forumstards
>gaming
reported

Because I don't give a shit about games. And honestly, the usual aesthetics of hardware designed with gamers in mind is simply repulsive.

you don't have to care but it would make you look like less of an asshole

I thought so too back when I had never used one. Especially when it's dark it's a godsend.

Why? Do you have to look at your keyboard while typing? What a cuck lmao

They look terrible - I would, however, like a good non-gaming laptop with a discrete GPU, such as the gimped 980. I need the CUDA cores.

I'm really not so sure why. When I'm typing I don't look at the keyboard. I guess it's just nice to see the keyboard when I'm placing my hands on it to start typing. Sure, I could also just search for those F/J-knobs, but it's a lot more convenient to be able to see it.

Anyway, you can just turn it off (and when it's bright on the outside, it turns of automatically anyway), but to me it's just nice to see the keys at all times. The loss in battery life is probably just a few minutes tops, so it doesn't really matter.

Because I can't afford one. I'm going to buy a ThinkPad when I get around to it

>sudden influx

ahahahahaha @ you

>b-b-but gamyn laptops are ugly and huge and clunky!

no one fucking cares, this isn't livejournal

Every single gaming laptop thay features a 980M with 8 gb VRAM is absolutely disgusting.

Thick bases, huge disgusting ass exhaust ports, edgy robo-philia designs that look like a transformers genetalia.

Just go on PC SPECIALIST, configure a laptop with the best processor and RAM you can and set it up with an eGPU housed in a box the size of a XPS 15 powerbrick.

You can upgrade your GPU as you see fit, with any full sized GPU.

Still portable.

Less overheating.

Basically the only downside is that you can only game on flat surfaces.

I don't think you've ever used a laptop with a backlit keyboard
It uses like no power compared to the rest of the system

/thread

Gaymen laptops are for children.

>spend ten times the money for half the performance of a custom built desktop

Breh. I built a desktop and bought an ideapad that can still run Far Cry Primal at decent settings @720p for less than I'd have to pay for a "gaming laptop".

Can't game on the train senpai.

>2inch thick laptop
>Overheats like a sunofabitch (punkek)
>No flat surface to use your mouse?

Don't lie to me m8, you're not going to be gaming on the train anyway

...

Well, they're usually a bit thicker - but I'm not sure what you mean about a lack of flat surfaces. Might just be a britbong things but I travel on pic related.

You can get single seats, same size of table (and it's freestanding, not on the back of the next chair or anything).

>gaming laptops are heavy

don't get a laptop bigger than 15.6"

Fuck you

This

Also this

Also a small side of this

>I'm a limp wristed faggot who can't lift more than 10lbs without getting a hernia

You'd love the XPS 15, only reccomdation if you get it is buy the ac 8260 wifi card if it doesnt have one.

Temps aint bad when gaming also on it (avg temps when I game)

Is there any word on a successor to it? With a 4k screen it'd be nice to have a better GPU.

This is weak man, my laptop gets here tuesday and your desktop is pale in comparison.

2.6ghz haswell, obsolete 3 years ago

What's your excuse for thinking you can only have one?

Why are you poor, OP?

Ask a guy that bought a "gaming" laptop but rarely plays games anything.

I won't promise to answer them all but you can ask. I'll go ahead and answer the obvious: yes it's Alienware and yes it looks cool as fuck

here
I got a laptop because sitting at a desk isn't very comfy but posting from bed is!

Because I prefer a small lightweight laptop with low power components.

>pre-built
As is every other laptop
>portable
Not really
>good looking already out of the box
My fucking sides

i have the msi gs60 003 and i had to underclock it cause it would constantly be getting an average of 80 celcious and with the fans cranked to the max, and has shitty bluetooth drivers, but other than that pretty good.

I'd love to get an Alienware 15, but I would never take full advantage of those specs.
Unlocked K CPU
32GB RAM
1TB SSD
Nvidia GTX 980M
9 hours battery life with Optimus enabled.

Dell really knows how to do gaming laptops, they have the best specs, yet are power efficient when you're not gaming. No other brand comes close.

You're forgetting:
>Can run FUCKING SOLIDWORKS AND CATIA
Seriously. If I didn't have a gaming laptop, I'd have to own a P50 or something like that, in addition to another gaming computer.
Stupid ass shit.
