is there something like a good video editing software that is free or cheap?
I know virtualdub mod, but it doesn't support a lot of input files and the editing is rather tedious. I currently use VideoPAD in the demoversion, but they want 50€ for the fullversion and I think that is too much for what it is...
But there are so many videoediting softwares out there that I totally have no overview.
Sony Vegas, After Effects and Premiere are completely free. :^)

Completely depends on what you want to do. If you just want to throw clips together something like powerdirector would work. If you want more power grab premiere and/or after effects, they're free
Only issue I ever had was using a recording from Windows 10 built-in screen recorder having fucked up bitrates for video and sound. Had to use handbrake to fix it.
Don't forget 3D effects and Python scripting.

I too use lightworks, just for editing home-videos. I've always wondered if something else would be better for this purpose though.
>good video editing software that is free or cheap? Years ago I used some software on linux called openshot. I was looking for a linux version of Windows Movie Maker to do some really simple things. Openshot worked great for what I needed.
I don't use it now because ffmpeg serves all my needs (simple cropping, transcoding, etc). According to the wikipedia page there is a windows version now.
