Anyone here use Discord?

I have a problem with the desktop version - hyper links won't open when I click them. I have Chrome set as my default browser (inb4 botnet) and tried running the program as admin, but neither helped.

Any suggestions?

OS? I'm guessing Windows because you said `run as admin` and not `run as root`.

What router should replace my WRT54G? There's a deadzone where my TV is, and I need something that isn't 10 years old so that that isn't a problem anymore. Also looking to have it route my connections through my VPN, while leaving my roommates untouched.

The main reason for upgrading will be streaming games over a Steam Link, so I don't know if it needs that MIMO/MU-MIMO stuff or not. I'm still on 802.11g, so I'm not really up on any of the latest advances in not-sucking.

Yeah, 8.1.

Are there multiple listings for Chrome in the menu that lets you choose which browser to use? Try another listing.

Try changing your "Default Browser" settings in Windows.

There is only one, but I think you're on the right track, after selecting it and launching Chrome it said it was no longer the default. Weird.

Weird. I haven't actually used Discord, I just Google'd the problem, the first couple of results were Reddit posts suggesting trying other listings of Chrome, making sure Chrome was the default, and reinstalling Chrome. Saw each of em fix someones problem, so, ya'know, try those things.

Is there a way I can download an app without it linking to my google play?

I want to use grinder but my little brother has access to my google play

Can I expect the next Surface Pro iteration having the ability to plug into an external GPU or dock of some sort and becoming a decent substitute for a full blown desktop? I mean is it realistic?

I tried all of those, even just reinstalled it again.

For some reason I think some wrong Chrome shows up in the default program listings (without icon even), because whenever I select it my current Chrome window says that it is no longer the default

apkmirror and f-droid

You should be able to select a path to the chrome executable manually.

No, that's not the Surface's target audience.

Google for grinder.apk

grindr still shows up in my "my apps" section

Is Sup Forums x randomly broken for anyone else?

Works fine for me.

thanks, an uninstall and reinstall fixed it

I'm trying to write a batch script, which will let a friend install something. It'll also carry out some other tasks on her behalf, such as add things to the hosts file and exceptions to the firewall, as well as move some files around.

How can I get the command window to open with admin rights?

What city are you in? What are you hoping to find on Grindr? Are you aware anyone can trilaterate your exact location if you have 'show distance' enabled?

What's the best youtube unblocker (region blocked stuff and such)? For Chrome that is.

pay for a vpn

where is a place for beginners like me to get into tech stuff? like knowing what a GPU is CPU is, what a good motherboard is like etc etc

Your brother is using Grindr, too, though.
But he is intelligent enough to know how to hide it.

At what point does it make sense to use rackmount cases over normal cases when using multiple computers? I'm planning on building a NAS and have tossed around the idea of hosting my own email (which would likely result in me later hosting other services). Would it make more sense to go with rackmount cases for easy stackability in a closet/the corner of my room when/if I choose to do more?

Is there a way to take control over cooling fan in my laptop manually, or set it to never stop?
It looks like it sometimes it stops, and then do not start agan.

an ARM SBC could do most of what you're planning. You don't need a rack.

If Windows, find Power Options and set cooling policy to Active.

I've got $100 to upgrade the graphics card in my main rig. It has a GT 440 in it currently.

New cards didn't really impress me at the $100 mark.

I see some GTX 760's on ebay I could haggle down to 90 + shipping.

Is there a faster radeon card I could snag used for $100 or any other cards I could look out for?

This will shorten battery life for increased performance. If it's not slowing you down at all, let be slow and cool with the fan not spinning. It comes on when it needs to. Computers are specifically designed to not self-destruct.

Buy a used or refurbished GTX 750ti.

>rig
:-(

Im a fucking baby and know literally nothing about computers.
I have $900 I need a new comp that can play games and will last awhile

everytime i watch youtube on windows 10 my wifi connection drops and becomes unusable until i restart router. What could be causing this?

About a month ago I had a serious injury that resulted in my spinal cord practically shattering. That's an exaggeration, but the point is I'll be confined to my bed whenever I'm not undergoing physical therapy for the next few months.

I'm normally a neet piece of shit that masturbates all day, so I'm already extremely bored since I'm limited to using my outdated garbage phone. I can't even watch television since I have to lie perfectly flat on my back or else it's extremely agonizing.

So I had this great idea of getting a projector and using it to project my desktop onto the ceiling, letting me comfortably use it from bed. But I know very little about projectors.

>tl;dr does anyone have experience using a projector on the ceiling for light gaming, and are there any recommended projectors for doing this?

I have to decrease temperature, battery life does not bother me so much. Since yesterday I had 3 crashes due to overheating

windows 10

You're not going to get any good gaming with a projector.

while tidying my room i found 16gb sd card with pic related files which i can't delete inside. I tried formating card on windows, but i got format error. Is there a way i could save this card?

>an ARM SBC could host terabytes of redundant storage
Since when? Most I've seen is 1 SATA header not several.

How are there 600+GB of files in there if it's a "16gb" card?

...

>You're not going to get any good gaming with a projector.
Why not? My own research only shows that there's potentially a minor delay with some of the cheaper options, but that doesn't matter when I'm playing RPGs.

oh, then maybe. Give it a try, I don't see what could possibly go wrong.

Get a tower with eight hard drive slots. You don't need a rack for just yourself. And you don't need to keep terabytes of other people's stuff on hard drives. You're not authoring that much. Quit hoarding and grab it as you want it.

If I took my laptop in to be repaired (burnt out charging port) would they bother look through the hard drives contents? They don't ask for passwords or anything, so they just check that it can boot up correctly, right?

they don't care about your porn

Projectors are expensive. Could you not be reading books on a 300dpi e-ink device that weighs 180 grams? What about mobile/emulated games?

You could take out the drive first.

Pedos are fucking stupid and leave that shit in plain view.

where are a lot of unrecognizable 4gb files in sd card which if pressed says file no longer exist...
extra, last time they were edited is 2101-09-17

nah its not that
one of the dudes who works there is my gfs brother
they're cheap but i dont want things being awkward . i could go to the one uptown but its literally twice the price

filesystem corruption, this is what you were risking when you decided not to "safely remove" them

now this makes even less sense
what filesystem is it using? have you tried accessing it on a different operating system?

oh just back up the pictures online or put it on a flash drive

>And you don't need to keep terabytes of other people's stuff on hard drives. You're not authoring that much. Quit hoarding and grab it as you want it.
I've been going that route for years and have noticed that it isn't the best in the long run as shit sometimes gets moved or suddenly gets a lot harder to find, especially more recently. I've also noticed times when I found a lot of shit that I wanted that would only be available for a limited time.

Fuck

It's going to take months to recover, so I'd rather be able to use my actual computer instead of some shitty tablet over such a long period. If I can't find a projector for a reasonable price, I'll pick up a shitty rice field handmachine.

fat32

Probably just corrupt. See if you can mess with the partitions and erase stuff that way.

Looking at buying an SSD to use to dual boot Win10 and Arch. Clueless about SSD's though. Any recommendations

Can't go wrong with Samsung's 850 or 840 series, and anything from Sandisk is pretty good too.

tried, it did not work

>it did not work
can you be a bit more specific?

What's the difference between PRO and EVO? is it just Read/Write speeds?

tried formating it as ntfs and exfat and got same error windows was unable to format...

pretty much

is there an advantage of the 750ti over the 760?

It looks a lot slower in benchmarks, can it overclock?

Try using DBAN to wipe the entire thing. Be careful, obviously, to wipe the CORRECT device.

750ti has pretty much been recognized as the best budget gaming card. I personally use it, and it was worth every penny of the $100 I paid.

HOW I INSTALL ARCH LINIX HOW DOES WORK WHAT IS INSTALL COMMAND?

...

He's probably just trolling.

Question to the java devs.

If you got a string with a date in this format "YYYY-MM-DD"
What would be the best way to calculate the age of someone giving this date ?
I thought of storing the year, the month and the day on separate variables, using Date to get the current year, current month and day, and calculating the age.
Is the a better / quick way to do it ?

How would you say C++ irl? C plusplus or C increment? I don't do programming at all but just curious

My mom has 500€ to spend as a bonus on a laptop.
What are some good options for general work, both normal and small-thin form factor

i stole an usb-stick from my dad after i asked him. it was encrypted.
I dont want the data from it just want to use its full size of 4gb but formatting doesnt work. any idea?

Also got a old external hdd with 30 gb. i want to use it to install multipe Operating systems. but when i start from it it only loads one of the three. any idea how i can make them all bootable?

the value stored in the variable C plus one

Would she do fine with a Chromebook, or does she need to run Microsoft Office applications?

Give it back Jamal.

C plus plus

It would also be for my father, forgot to mention.
Yes, they both use Office.
I need to make sure if it's a problem though, they could switch to google drive or some other alternative.
Consider it a maybe

Amazon has their own little interactive thing to help choose laptops based on needs.

Do you feel like you're the only one helping people on /sqt/?

Maybe it's just because it's a weekday and people are working.

:^) :^) :^)

I've got a few hundred tabs "open" on my phone's Chrome browser that I'd like to transfer to my PC. I'm pretty sure I don't want to sync, because Chrome isn't recognizing all of the tabs and will inevitably erase the bulk of them. Is there a way to get this done?

Is there a way to accurately calculate the wattage a pc will use?

I got a really shitty Samsung NC10 laptop that i want to improve for my old man.

What is the lightest distro that i can put on it with the most windows like interface (since he's used to it the most)?

I dug up an old SSD I thought was broken.

Plugged it in, it showed up in the bios.
Booted to windows, recognised a new volume.

Tested it, seemed to be working okay.
Opened disk manager and selected it, then it disappeared.

Is it broken? Where did it go?
It's a Sandisk something or other.

That looks God awful
>hard disk
>Sub par screen resolution

I don't quite understand what you mean?

Not very easily, no.

PCPartPicker has a wattage calculator if you have all of your components on a list.

Mint? Lubuntu/Xubuntu?

It's what you're going to get in a cheap laptop.

OpenSuse, Mint, elementaryOS.
If you want it fast then lubuntu or lxle

Debian might be good too.

What's the hard way? My alternative right now is slowly going through the list on the phone, bookmarking the important sites and hoping Chrome only crashes a few times.

That's the hard way.

I've got a question concerning grep.

I have some address data in an asc file as simple text. The first 30 characters are for the name. If the name is shorter than the 30 characters whitespaces fill it up to ensure its length is 30. At position 31 is a whitespace to seprate the name from the next data which is the address. After the address is also a whitespace and some other data. My plan is to retreive the address, which starts at index 32 and continues to index 50. All i tried led to only getting nothing or always the data beginning at the start of the line.
grep –o -P '^.{31,34}' myfile.asc
Is it possible to retreive my substring like that? I can't search for a certain pattern since every set of Data is different except the whitespaces which seperate the data. I prefer to use grep since performance is an issue.

So i just upgraded my motherboard, CPU and RAM and contrary to what i was expecting i didn't have to reinstall windows 10. Will i be fine if i just download the latest VGA/lan/audio drivers for my motherboard?

You got lucky. Yeah, just download the most recent drivers.

I just updated to Firefox 47.0 a few days ago and now Youtube videos are missing a ton of resolution options. Usually I can only watch 144p, 360p and maybe 720p but nothing else

Cool.

Okay.
