It's still not practical. Wait for 1080Ti, New Titan, and/or the Vega flagship. If you insist then GTX 1080 SLI is your best bet. If it absolutely must be AMD then you can get an R9 295X2 or R9 Pro Duo but that's really not advisable.

GTX 1070 is the best idea if you can get your hands on one, if not you'll have to settle for the GTX 980Ti or the R9 Fury (X), or wait for RX 490. Honestly, the AMD options here won't be great for 1080p since they're using using HBM(2) which excels at higher resolutions and the GTX 980Ti is a little underpowered for AAA titles, especially going forward if DX12 kicks off.
