/gcg/ - graphic card general

Start redirecting all the other gpu threads to this one and let them die, we only need one thread for gpu shitposting.

kys this general sucks

So who else is going to get a non reference 480 when they come out?

its to condense the gpu shitposting to one thread instead of having like 15 different gpu threads, this is a necessary general

Should I just buy an r9 390x now that the rx 480 has turned out to be a potential motherboard killer? The difference is just 40 euros where I live.

non reference designs will add another 6 pin to fix this issue so i would say wait on the RX480 non references

...

Does anyone know when manufacturers are going to start selling their own custom versions of the 1070 or 1080? I'm hoping the $450 price tag will go down.

There are no release dates out yet, though, and I'm pretty sick of waiting, as I don't currently have any kind of a real GPU.

I'm tired of waiting too. I'm just waiting for them to start pumping out custom 1070s so I can finally complete my new rig.

no, gpu threads are fun, fuck gpu general

Some one just made 2 good purchases today.

Let's see how long this one lasts

You like having your room 15 freedom degrees warmer?

Another consumer with his 2x XFX cards.

Lmao enjoy your waste of money

Can this be a fucking sticky?

Hey there, I'm not biased at all (I own a graphics card) but I'd advise you to always buy Nvidia™, because Nvidia™ runs faster, cooler, and gives more frames and GHz when overclocked. Nvidia™ let's me play games The Way it's Meant to be Played, and with Nvidia's innovative GameWorks™ development framework powering over 90% of up and coming titles this year, you'd be a fool to even consider a card from an inferior company. I could talk to you about drivers (amd has none, not one driver) but you're probably already sold by now. Buy any Nvidia™ card at any price point and you will NOT be disappointed!

you belong on Sup Forums you faggot

What OCs have yall been hitting with your 1070s? I have a Gigabyte G1.

yes lets all pay 450 for a FE 1070 only to see this
11 fps ahead of a mid tier card for 250 bucks more

DEAL OF THE CENTURY

You picked the ONLY benchmark in that entire review that was even close. Just how fucking hard did that post-purchade regret hit you, boy? Enjoy your 2014 levels of performance.

we can cherry pick all day long fact is simple

in dx11 has a 20% lead over 480
in dx12 the maximum it has is 12%...
now hmmm lets see some facts
1070 is the evolution of 970 right? in a sense 970 is 15% faster than 380x in dx12 and 23% on dx11..
now lets put down 480 which replaces 380x
it dropped 3% on dx11 and 4% on dx12
generation to generation speaking 1070 isnt really THAT much of a big deal its good but thats it amd always matures better since they introduced gcn.. hell some 7xxx cards are still kicking today

+1

>hitman or ASOTS
>every single time
Are these the only two games AMD fanboys play?

You say 20% more but the GTA5 benchmark shows 76% increase, familia.

I don't care which cards came before. What matters is the now.

this makes me feel brety gud about my r9 380.

Fuck off.

Motherboard manufacturers must be rubbing their hands in the most hebrew manner possible over all these people buying 2 to crossfire.

From a price vs performance perspective the 480 is a monster. That said the card offers very little to me (I run a heavily overclocked 290x) as I already get fury/fury x tier performance from said overclock (remember fiji scales like shit over hawaii) and in many DX12 titles my card is trading blows with a 980ti.

Despite Sup Forums's idiocy the 480 is actually a game changer as it stabs Nvidia right in the market segement where 1)Nvidia makes a lot of its dosh on GTX cards and 2) right where OEMS are suddenly interested. If AMD can get the 480 into prebuilts then things will start to change dramatically.

>(I run a heavily overclocked 290x) as I already get fury/fury x tier performance from said overclock
No you don't
> and in many DX12 titles my card is trading blows with a 980ti.
No it isn't, definately not with heavily overclocked 980ti's, if you want to compare apples to apples

it's a good card, but I laugh at you for buying reference, fucking retard.

>180 watts from the PCI-e
Enjoy your house fires

>No you don't

msi's 390x is closing in on a fury x and my card is clocked 100mhz higher than said 390x.

>No it isn't, definately not with heavily overclocked 980ti's, if you want to compare apples to apples

I never specified a heavily overclocked 980ti - I merely said a 980ti. Plus it doesn't need to be apples to apples as 1) this isn't a review and 2) the 980ti is an entire tier of performance ahead of a stock 290x - so my overclocked card reaching parity with a stock 980ti seems par for the course for typical overclocknig gains (i.e a heavily overclocked lower tier card reaches stock performance of a higher tier card).

Its why some of zotac's 970 models reach stock 980 performance.

>msi's 390x
Right, closing in on, so not matching, plus that's a 390x, not a 290x.
> Plus it doesn't need to be apples to apples
Only if you are disingenuous, which you are apparently. Saying your card matches a 980ti, whilest yours is heavily overclocked, and the 980ti isn't is just retarded. Overclock the 980ti and it shits all over your 290x.

>Right, closing in on, so not matching, plus that's a 390x, not a 290x.

What part do you not grasp that my card is running faster than the 390x?

>Only if you are disingenuous, which you are apparently

Not at all, why does it have to be apples to apples when these cards are in different performance tiers? That is the whole point of overclocking - to get greater performance from a cheaper/lower tier product.

Sure said 980ti can be overclocked but a 980ti is a lot more money than a 290x.

fuck off

>why does it have to be apples to apples
>>why should I compare products in a way that they are comparable and setup on equal terms? And not in a way that one gets an unfair advantage over the other?

I'm done wasting breath on AMDrones, just look a the statement you just made, and think about it for a couple of minutes.

I'm abandoning this thread

Here. I'm curious about the Powercolor new Devil card

Should I bother with the 480 or just crossfire my existing 280?

So now that the dust has settled, is the 480 better than the 970?
