Most ports have through hole connections just to keep it rigid. Micro gets the shitty surface mount connections. I'm convinced they do this just so that they'll break and you'll buy another one. Same with laptop fans not being easily accessible. I've also thought about having the port rigid with a through hole connection then actual wires from the port to the surface so that they'd be a little more forgiving.
Don't try and charge your phone like that stupid bendy cable, I don't care what connection it is.
