Font Rendering thread

Haven't seen one lately, so let's have one!

Criticise and give advice on how to better one's rendering.

Today's wikipedia page is the one for the chinese town "Yinchuan".

Fuck, the (yellow ) and the w ithin thing is bothering me.

Is Infinality Bundle with the MS preset the closest I can get to Windows 7-style font rendering on Linux? Seems pretty close but just slightly heavier. I'm so used to Windows hinting that everything else looks gross to me.

...

AYY LMAO I DISCOVERED SOMETHING

Installed xubuntu yesterday. I'm using Ubuntu font Light 10. Any tips to make it look better?

Have you tried that Infinality thing? I'm not a Linux user, but I've heard (and seen) a lot of good things about it.

get a better resolution screen

I'm not sensitive to font renderings. Can you explain your comment a little more?

What's there to explain?

what font do you use?
i'm with whatever is the default one.

Windows XP, firefox.

Top is ClearType, bottom is the standard rendering; which one looks better? I don't have an eye for this stuff.

freetype2 with Roboto
Any tips? It's better than windows but I feel it could still be improved

with infinality

What the fuck man? Are you so feeble minded that you need us cockjockeys to make a decision on behalf of your eyes? Are you really desperate to fit in and be accepted?

Just choose one for fucks sake.

Top: decent. Bottom: trash.

Pretty good. It seems a bit blurry, I feel like the contrast can be improved.

Normally I have it plugged to a 1080 monitor so yeah. Only using laptop screen because I was in bed.

Is just cleartype and nothing else

And? At that resolution ClearType is enough to properly render text. Most issues appear when the text is small.

what can i do to make it better?

At that resolution, not much. What's your configuration? I guess Loonix. Try a better font family and maybe Infinality.

dejavu font family

But Windows font rendering is dogshit

Okay.

...

>thread premise has no hint of irony
>OP is entirely serious about the repeated posting of at most 3 font rendering profiles
OP you are a faggot

not bad

Yup, this is pretty good. The resolution is not huge, yet a lighter typeface manages to look completely legible and pleasant to the eyes. The Chinese is a bit fucked up, but it could be fixed by using a different typeface.

...

Jesus Christ, some of you have awful rendering. Why?

A U T I S M

That looks pretty sweed famalam, what are you using?

Excellent, although that typeface is too wide for my taste.

Scale back yours and it will look like that too.

Pretty much perfect.

do you really use this big ass font?
that's seriously blind proof.

infinality osx setting & helvetica

>Excellent.
thanks

I'm usually leaned back in my chair. For text-heavy sites that are formatted wider than they are long, I find it much more pleasant to zoom in by 10-25% and scroll, or just swap to a reading-mode. It doesn't look that large on my laptop's screen. Here it is scaled out though.

I don't know what you're doing, but I get zero scaling artifacts.

What do you guys think of this AUR package?
aur.archlinux.org/packages/fontconfig-enhanced-defaults/

still quite big in my opinion. mine is 16 on a 1080p 15.6" laptop
