DDR2 == master race

My PC is probably going to become the generic gaming build for next few months. Mark my words, you're going to see i5, 1070 and S340 builds all the time.

Just upgraded to a 6500k. Will post pics when I clean up the inside a bit more.

Dirt Rally VR update just released BTW, im fucking obsessed with that game

I got this case the other day, love it so far.

Considering that the 1080ti might not come out until 6-7months from now, I feel forced to get a 1080 because my current card is broken and might kill my entire setup any day now..

Has anyone made literally a stonecase yet?

No, they are too stoned.

>kill the entire setup
whats wrong with it?

Considering moving this build into an H440 and replacing the 212 with an X61 or Frostflow 240L, but I love my idle temps on everything being below 35 all the time even in summer

You should get a lower watt GPU.

forgot to add the specs

Well I lost ambient occlusion for everything, and if I fullscreen certain applications the screen starts flickering/tearing. I've troubleshooted everything I can come up with.

So it's very specific things.
But murphys law..

seems like you drew the short straw then, that sucks man :/

Still waiting for my new monitor

Insane amount of GPU sag ..

...

Anyone concerned by the fact that their GPU Idle temp is apparently 71?
Is that 960 OC'd, or is it at that much of a load at idle from merely driving 2 1440 displays?

Why would you assume it's idle?

Honestly, it's because I rarely expect the speccy stats on a guts thread post to be recorded at load. Also I'm pretty drunk right now

wait what, is this really so bad?

my gpu saggs even more...

If I post idle temps people ask for load temps, so its just easier to have load temps, but now I get people wondering why im idling so high... can't win.

Do what I usually do, use the text tool to write in the idle (or load, whatever's opposite) temp next to or above the other temp

It survived 2 years..!

It's not that bad.

To the guy that asked yesterday: No, I sadly cannot route the 8-pin PCI-e cable differently, it's too short to reach if I route it behind my mobo.

I'm thinking I'll do something about it by buying extension cables for both that and the 24-pin cable next month, to match the white 8-pin for the CPU.
Either that or pick up the Kelvin S36 that I've been planning on getting ever since I got my 750D along with a Grid+ and some quieter fans.

What should I do first, Sup Forums ?

unless it was overclocked and under load that whole time... thats kinda shitty dude

uhhh get the Kelvin S36. appearances can wait

Well yeah it is shitty. My old HD5770 is still working..

S36 because then you have more time to change to a new one if it's too loud. Because mine is very loud for an AIO cooler.

>Because mine is very loud for an AIO cooler.
If it's really too loud, I can always get a refund.
All I've really heard/read about its loudness is that the stock fans that come with it are a bit on the loud side, though. How's the pump noise on it ?
More importantly, is it a high pitched whiny kind of loud ?

That's what I mean, you can finish the build while the cooler is being sent back and then a new one arrives..!

It's not the fans, they are good at 60-70% speed.
But the pump is louder than expected. I do only hear it when I don't have anything else playing etc. Kind of a high pitched noise mixed with the moving water. You can, as I, lower the pump rpm, but even then it's not fit for a quiet build.
For the price it's very disappointing.

That does sound a little annoying, any chance you can record a sample of the pump noise ?
I'm not really going for an ultra quiet build or anything, more so just not annoyingly loud while idling.

Also, how are your temps under load, and how much is your CPU overclocked ?

If you're not aiming for a quiet build then you're gonna be fine with it.

As for temps I'm idling around 25-30c depending on the ambient temperature. And that's with all fans on 40% and the pump being around 60%.

I haven't OCd yet as I was going to wait till I get a new gpu.
But my friend has almost the exact same build as I do, same cpu and cooler and he has OCd to around 4.5ghz and he idles about the same and under 100% load we reach about the same as well, 55-60c.
The voltage hit the limit before the temp did.

During winter, when the ambient temp was around 2c we idled at 14-15c.

So it's very capable.

>tfw never have to worry about GPU sag

Post temps

Nice spaceheater.

I've been toying with the idea of a small build for some time now.
And since my gpu is dying and I'd have to get a new card until the 1080ti arrives, it would be smart to get a card that fits in a small case.

The build would use my old pc parts, lga1156. And it would just be an offload render pc and something portable.
Best gpu choice would be something like the Nano? I'd hate to use AMD because fuck AMD when you're dealing with 3D softwares.
But does nvidia have any tiny cards like the Nano? Last and current gen.

Having trouble finding mobos now that I'm looking..

What monitor are you waiting on?

My DiY Steam Machine

Can you help me out a bit, /guts/?

1) I have i5-750 with GA-P55-UD2 motherboard, 8gb ddr3 ram, some okay PSU the name I forgot, terrible, cheap case with no airflow and GTX 660 as GPU.

Can I upgrade it in some way or the onyl option lesft is completely new PC?

2) What are some good options for 8 core CPUs, other than i7-6700/6700K? Not costing 350$, I mean. Or there is something incoming and should I rather wait? If so, how long?

3) Can I even make a build based on some i7 CPU that would fit inside 1000$/890 EUR budget?

Get 8gb more RAM and a new GPU.

Acer Predator XB271HU but it's not in stock at the moment and I am having second thoughts because it's almost as expensive as a vive and g-sync isn't improving much at high framerates anyway

My CPU wont bottleneck everything?

What case is that?

Mine

>2) What are some good options for 8 core CPUs, other than i7-6700/6700K?
Those things have four cores, and they use hyperthreading so the OS sees eight threads. Most games can't utilize them for any benefit.

Yes, I know, 4 physical, 8 logical -I was thinking of another good CPU like that. I heard that AMD FX CPUs have poor single thread performance, while having okay multi-thread.

10/10 - IGN

Is there a reason why you want an i7? for gaming an i5 with reasonable single core performance should be good enough doesn't need to be the latest generation so yours should still be fine

if you have a $1000 budget you have a lot of options, upgrade your case and your psu if you are worried about air flow and reliability spend the rest on a nice gpu and maybe a new ssd

IN WIN Chopin

>Is there a reason why you want an i7?

Other than that I want another CPU that will last for next 3-4 years and that I want it to be rather hex than quad - no.

i5-750 serve me since 6 years - I want next one to last at least near that.

>if you have a $1000 budget

Actually, I was a little stupid to provide budget in $, as I live in Europe - that means extra VAT tax for every imported goods from US.

Lets stick to 890 EUR budget. Or 4000 PLN, because thats my local currency.

...

I am from Europe too, 890€ are still a reasonable budget especially if you can use some parts from your old pc.

I looked up you cpu and if you don't want to upgrade to the i7 from the same generation you need a new mainboard if you want to upgrade to the 6xxx sklakes or broadwell-E you have to upgrade you RAM as well because no DDR3 support:

100€ mainboard
230€ i5 skylake
40€ DDR4 8gb

thats roughly 370€ you could safe and probably get similar performance in games

>100€ mainboard

And what mainboard would be good for that price?

I mean, I found GA-170-UD3 that looked really promising, but thats 112€.

>if you don't want to upgrade to the i7 from the same generation

Is there something interesting from my generation, I mean using socket LGA 1156?

Poor worldfag here, your cpu and ram is ok, i have 6 gigs of ram with i5 2500, recently bought an 950 gtx and no cpu or even ram bottlenecks. shadow of mordor mostly with high/some ultra settings, 50+ fps on 1080p, it just works.

Maybe not the best place to ask, but do any of you guys know anything about DIYPC cases? Particularly pic related?
It comes with like 6 case fans which is probably overkill, but it has external fan control so it shouldn't be too noisy.

The thing with mainboards is that it doesn't really matter which one you take performance wise except the chipset but there aren't many different chipsets within one cpu generation and if it's a "gaming" board it probably already has the right one. If you are interested, a comparison for skylake chipsets:

pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/Z170-H170-H110-B170-Q150-Q170---What-is-the-Difference-635/

So choose your mainboard purely on features: nice on board sound, special ethernet, m.2 etc

>Is there something interesting from my generation, I mean using socket LGA 1156?

i am not sure what you mean - socket 1156 works only with the first generation of i5s and i7s

...

>i am not sure what you mean - socket 1156 works only with the first generation of i5s and i7s

I mean, if there is a good buyable CPU for that socket, so I could use my current mobo.

As for motherboards, I was thinking about how Asus, MSI and Gigabyte models differs in price, while Im too green to see a difference between, say, Z-170-K, -P or -A in case of Asus or HD3 and HD3P in case of Gigabyte.

So Intel most likely wont drop their price anytime soon?

This is under load

It's a fucking spaceheater, yes

So my motherboard has a TPM header, does anyone know where you can buy a TPM 2.0 14-1 TPM module?

Seems to be a real bitch to find them because they are considered cryptographic devices.

The fastest CPU for 1156 is the i7-880 and thats around 160€ on ebay

ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=m570.l1313&_nkw=Core i7-880&_sacat=0

I would not recommend that if you want to upgrade, upgrade to a more recent generation or keep you current cpu.

The difference is minimal: some have on board wifi others have headers for pumps if you want to water cool or have nicer on board sound - as i said only features you may want or need but probably not. here is the list for different asus boards:

And no I wouldn't expect much of a price drop before the next generation of cpus is released

>And no I wouldn't expect much of a price drop before the next generation of cpus is released

Even if Zen would come? Thats sad.

And I guess there is no new generation on horizon?

Thanks for all this help, by the way, I rarely get as much.

Tried amazon?
Only 20 bux
amazon.com/Gigabyte-GC-TPM-Trusted-Platform-Module/dp/B00U07T0UE

wheres the guy with the sun microsystems case i want to know what he has in the inside bc i saw a case on craigslist for sale and i wanted to make it into a sleeper

That's TPM 1.2 which is an older TPM version, I can easily find those.

Finding a TPM 2.0 module (which allows for several different types of encryption over TPM 1.2) is a pain in the ass. There are a few I found that are 20-1 pin, but I can't find any 14-1 pin.

>Even if Zen would come? Thats sad.
Well I wouldn't rule it out, it can happen but that would mean you have to wait for Zen

>And I guess there is no new generation on horizon?

Kaby Lake is announced for later this year but they usually release the mobile versions first and month later the desktop versions you would be interested in but thats probably 10 month away after that comes cannonlake but that's even further away (like 18 month maybe)

...

>but that would mean you have to wait for Zen

I wait since last 3 years, when I started to think about upgrading (but back then, it had little sense), my current PC have 6 years, I can wait few months more ;_; (it it would really mean saving 300+ PLN).

Instead of "few months" I guess I should say "until December", unless AMD will push the release for later, right?

>Instead of "few months" I guess I should say "until December", unless AMD will push the release for later, right?

True but you can always wait a bit longer and get something better for the same money - if your pc works right now you could get a new GPU, PSU and case now and get a new CPU, mainboard and RAM after zen is out if you really wanted to. if you are concerned about the work if your windows runs fine right now you can and should upgrade you gpu without installing everything again

Actually, Im using Win 7 right now, have Win 10 Edu on desk, but Im not sure how they would treat changing motherboard, if I would install it now.

Said Win 7 actually runs that 6 years without reinstallation, so installing over again would actually helps.

But you suggestion about splitting upgrade in two aprts sounds reasonable. I would wait a little bit more, since custom Rx 480 is on its way, but thanks again, I will consider this option.

I just build this, how do I prevent GPU sag?

...

You're having too much positive pressure in your case.

Dice. Bottle cap. Tabasco sauce.

Now fill the rest of the space with batteries and you basically have a 2015/6 MacBook

chek it senpai

Local shop had a shipment of discount Nanos for pretty much what reference RX 480 costs so fuck waiting for that Sapphire card. Goes well with my mATX case I think, leaves the CPU some more room to breathe.

late today

Strap a fuckhuge cooler to it.

I once nearly bought a 100€ hdmi cable from a hifi store in a mall because all other shops were closed

I decided to wait until morning

>2016
>not buy HIFI SUPERHD PLATINUM PLATED HDMI cables.

Nice, I just put my new build in an s340 as well. Wish I had matching SSDs though :(

You have too much positive pressure in your head.

what do I do with the Tabasco sauce?

Positive pressure is best, if you don't like having to clean your case as often.

Balanced is best silly

Mostly balanced with a slight lean towards positive is best for cleanliness. If the air pressure dips into the negative, the case will draw in air from all available sources, which will draw dust into your case from the gaps in the edges.

Those twisted hoses have me triggered as fuck.

...

Why?

Why not?

Nice guts mane

What case is that?

Lmfao just bought it with i5 4460.
No 1070 though but the rx480 will do

The old hidden 980, i love it!

someone needs to get their priorities straight

>Not getting the joke.

I want to get a new card, currently with a 650TI, waiting for the 1060 to come out.
Is it okay to buy cards on first day releases?
