Why is the 6700K cheaper than the 4790K?
Am I missing something?

Finer grain of sand, OP
One's still in production, the other is not
The former is now a legacy item that caters to those with legacy motherboards. Is it still cheaper to go from a 4690K to a 6700K after the mobo? Not everyone is so fortunate to live near a Microcenter.
Intel does not lower prices on their previous gen tech. They never have.
"legacy"
The 4790K is a year older, retard.
So the moral of the story is....?
Should I upgrade from a 2nd generation Sandy Bridge to a 6700k or 4790K?
Tests are pretty conclusive that there's a massive performance boost from a 2nd generation to a 6th generation: youtube.com
>Why is the #700K cheaper than the #790K?
quality z97 boards are hard to find and if you do find one it's going to be stupidly expensive.
go for skylake and ddr4.
>why is a faster processor more expensive
It is no longer being produced and it uses a deprecated chipset. I'm sorry but that's legacy hardware. Intel moves fast.
Sauce?
>used to live 30 minutes from microcenter
>now live 4 and a half hours from the nearest microcenter
Why even live
More demand + Less supply

4790k is better.
>4790K hits 4.7Ghz at 1.3v
>6700K reaches 4.5Ghz and 1.4v
