it was never alive
Well in 2004 they had 50% market share, now it's 18%
That makes sense. I wonder if they are going to leave the desktop graphics market.
around 30, they had a fairly large uptick before the 480
Source?
kek they created 2 lines for 2016 and 2017
>i wonder if they gonna leave
Their desktop business just loses them money though.
we shall see in a month when q2 results come
I feel kind of bummed. I still halfway want to cancel my 1070 order and get a Fury X.
100% console marketshare
100% mining marketshare
100% APU marketshare
100% waifu marketshare
1070 and Fury X are pretty much equal
just get whats better for you desu senpai, AMD is better for futureproofing and Nvidia is if you want the absolute best performance in most games for about a year
>old graph
got some updated numbers?
because unlike nVidia, AMD makes quality products that last for longer and people with 7970 GHz are still enjoying good performance and with DX12/Vulkan they are enjoying performance of brand new cards.
>2nd Quarter 2015 is old
Uhh
I recall AMD being on top around the dual core era (2005-2007). Just putting that out there.
That doesn't explain why people are buying Nvidia cards 5 to 1 compared to AMD.
no you dumb fuck
you can actually overclock the 1070
Uhh 1070 is better than the Fury X in every way
In today's age, Yes
In 2nd quarter 2016, yes. It's nearly 365 days old.
Would use drivers that are a year old? Would you take graphs from a year ago as indicative of current times?
If so, you're a fool.
How much do you think the market share changed in 1 year? I imagine Nvidia is only increasing their lead.
>How much do you think the market share changed in 1 year?
pcper.com
4%, at least.
Is it counting just desktop or mobile graphics too? Almost every laptop with a dedicated GPU features an nvidia one.. Not to mention gaming desktops almost always feature Nvidia as their primary option.
People who self build are still in a minority.
Lack of investor trust/belief. A lot of senior execs bailed over the last couple of years. New products are coming out on risky node changes.
Compare that to Intel for CPUs and Nvidia for GPUS. Either company has the money on hand to volume sell at a loss to kill either division of AMD for a cycle or two (not that either would do so as it would result in a possible monopoly and lead to a company breakup).
>Lack of investor trust/belief.
I guess that's why the stock has surged 180% in the last 6 months then, huh?
>A lot of senior execs bailed over the last couple of years.
They were removed and replaced with actually competent people who know engineering and manufacturing.
>New products are coming out on risky node changes.
Just as risky as Nvidia's node change.
Actually less so since they seem to be actually able to produce chips in some quantity.
Because of delusional fucking idiots like you are (see Amdrones) I hope AMD gets bankrupt so we don't have to deal with you fucking obnoxious faggots.
Nvidia is a wonder in terms of how they sell overpriced crap. Gsync is already a huge turnoff for me. Freesync is the future.
>I guess that's why the stock has surged 180% in the last 6 months then, huh?
You mean the last six months leading up the release of new hyped products? That's not trust/belief. That's opportunism. Buy low, sell high. Get out with whatever profit you can.
>They were removed and replaced with actually competent people who know engineering and manufacturing.
That's what you want to call it, that's fine. But IIRC these guys weren't fired. They quit. This wasn't AMD going in a different direction and expelling dead weight.
>Just as risky as Nvidia's node change.
I'd say a bit more risky as Nvidia didn't have to change foundries or raised and bad blood during the 20nm debaucle. They have a more leisurely pace to launch Pascal as AMDs shuttered with a huge gap in the middle. It also helps to introduce the GP100 early.
>implying amd only makes videocards
That's why you will never be successful and will be stuck shitposting in Sup Forums, user
?
AMD/ATI always used to be "almost as fast as NVIDIA but significantly cheaper". Now AMD is simply "the same price and not as fast as NVIDIA".
There is literally no more reason to go with AMD. Even when NVIDIA overprices their shit, AMD doesn't take advantage. How fucking hard can it be to make a chip that's almost as fast as a 1080 but make it like 100 bucks cheaper? It feels like they have no motivation to take on NVIDIA at all.
>how hard can it be
Impossible considering they fired all their good people and replaced them with pajeets who cheated on their exams and just bullshitted their way into engineering jobs.
I hope Vega comes with nice water cooling like fury
And you think nvidia didn't either?
Asians do the same fucking thing. Name one tech company anyways that isn't doing this cultural enrichment anyway.
AMD just doesn't have the money to compete anymore.
The amount of nvidia fan bois shilling it. Retards be leaving them.
Really makes you think
4x shit then?
A reason for nVidia to laze around and not care about their stuffs since people will buy it anyway even when AMD is penetrating their ass in DX12 and Vulkan
>release nothing but subpar products for a decade
>Y MARKET SHARE SO LOW
Geez, this is just crazy.
I wonder. Do you honestly defend AMD because you're an ultra edgy hipster who has to be contrarian in every imaginable situation or are you simply poor?
...
I defend and because I like it I have never used any CPU or GPU that was not from and and I was never disappointed. I just hate how the nvidia fan boys shill it for free thinking because they use nvidia and Intel they are better than them
>I like it I have never used any CPU or GPU that was not from and and I was never disappointed
>Accuses others of brand royalty.
That "it just works for me" argument always pisses me off. You know why I have a grudge against AMD? Cuz their 200 series cards were a piece of shit that I had to RMA twice just so I can find out that AMD decides to refurbish 7xxx series 2nd time and release improved 300 series. Fuck those dodgy scumbags.
>never used intel or nvidia
>blindly thinks amd is better
Wow, you might like, want to actually try the other companies products before talking so much shit.
why dont AMD join forces with INTEL to make a SoC ARM x128 (the first 128bit machine).
sell them to server cluster manufacturers to make the next-generation of AI compute.
shit would be worth TRILLIONS with a T. AMD goes from worthless to the most expensive stock immediately. nvidia shills on suicide squad.
I never accuse anybody of brand loyalty I just don't like this shilling and them thinking that they're better than everybody else
I didn't say who I thought was better there's always going to be better products from one company to another. I just chose to buy and instead of its competition
other OP here but my nvidia card broke after 2 years now I bough an used 200 series AMD and I'm happy with it. dno whats your problem m9t.
as far as products go amd and nvidia have similar quality, the difference is that nvidia is the bad guys that put a taxation on their products and other propertiary solutions.
AMD holds 100% market share in the current gen console market. PS4 is still selling millions of consoles each month, Xbone is right behind, and there's supposed to be upgraded consoles coming out soon and Nintendo NX is almost guaranteed to be using AMD.
AMD is fine
AMD bought ATI with money they did not have
Fired ATI employees evem though they said they wouldnt
Good ATI engineers gtfo to nvidia and intel
AMD hired h1b pooinloo
AMD prostitutes itself to arab sheiks with GloFo aka worst deal of the millenium
Now AMD has no money no engineers is full of poo and shake down by arabs
and to let nvidia rule the market? No thanks, I don't want another monopoly market for processor unit
>the death of a company is a good thing
>Especially when there only is 1 (one) other company on the competition
>losing millions every quarter
>fine
NX actually uses a proprietary GPU developed in house by Nintendo.
Intel gave systems vendors billions to influence their choice of CPU and GPU. Intel had to pay compensation after being found completely guilty but it was enough to starve AMD of money for a decade.
AMD will lose
>Nintendo
>designing anything complex
kek
...
>Its a "Gaymer PC autists pretend to be businessmen" thread
ATI/AMD has been making Nintendo console GPUs since GameCube. Why suddenly change with NX?
Business is just a shitty RTS game.
Maybe because AMD will be dead in 4 years
I honestly don't give a fuck if you believe me or not, but my father is an engineer at Nintendo and he's leading the GPU development team.
yeah I know AMD is so bankrupt cuz my dad works at Nvidia and he said AMD sux and Rajeets gonna sell Radeon to Apple. Its almost as if being an autist on the internet makes you understand the inner workings of multi million dollar corporations
My mother is Lisa Su and she told me she was working hard with Nintendo to build a good GPU for the NX.
Make one of the consoles. Playstation, Xbox and Nintendo. How much market share does nvidia have with their shield?
haha an AMD insider told me their stock will rise 1000% as a result of extra dragon dildo sales. Neeveedia is finished
My grandson work in Sony's Xbox 320 department, and I can confirm that this user is telling the whole almost truth, 99%.
Sadly yes. If maybe they weren't being incompetent a decade ago they would have enough money for the dumb poo in loos in R&D to do something properly. Not this PCIe fuck up from using an improper connector
>Uhh
>AKSHUALLY
fucking nerd
Listen, I am Reggie, and i'm telling you that the NX will use an 1070 form nvidia, coupled with a CPU from Qualcomm
Still nowhere near as bad as Nvidia releasing 3 sets of card killing drivers.
Sorry the truth hurts
Very true.
Fuck i wish pascal was thermi 2.0
Nintendo used to constantly make some of the best designed hardware, suffice to say that stopped when Gunpei Yokoi died and many of the competent R&D staff members retired. Not coincidentally the last good one retired in 2004.
Intel using shady tactics to get more ground on the CPU market probably perma crippled AMD.
That was the one point where AMD was just better/faster/everything and Intel still won.
Not a good thing to wish for. When nVidia does well, AMD steps up.
Remember when AMD released its 4xxx and 5xxx series?
What's Nvidia's market share in the current line of Apple computers? Oh, that's right. 0. And it seems like Apple will be adopting Polaris as well. Since Apple is one of the most valuable companies in the world and certainly the most valuable brand what does that tell you? AMD's market share will only continue to grow.
Nope. Only really got into computers about 2 years ago. Its all a history lesson for me and i actually really enjoy the reading. Speaking of...
But what if AMDs candle has gone out and it's done.
AMD is already done, they're just on life support now
>No king rules forever, my son
Companies rise and fall. AMD may rise again, or die out. I hope that it rises, or that a worthy successor takes its place before it dies.
ARM GPU taking over the desktop market.
>things that will never happen
You're right it already did, everybody has a smartphone.
>55555555
Smartphones will start running x86 before desktops run ARM.
Chinese are investing and taking control of AMD, they wont fall.
>2017 THE YEAR OF MATROX
>Posted from my discontinued X86 Intel Atom powered Zenfone 2
ARM is the only player in the smartphone/tablet industry today.
$200 is nice for the 480, but 85% of steam users want even cheaper, they want a 100-150 gpu which is this month. None of my friends have a gaming pc, but all they play is mobashits and wow anyway
The RX 470 is coming out soon and at a very nice price.
Marketing & Intel + Nvidia play a lot of shaddy moves against them.
Nvidia is a terrible company too, they only care about money. AMD could be a zombie now, but at least they have been pushing for good and inovative technology for years now, meanwhile Nvidia only push for meme software like Gameworks or G-Sync (which works the same as Free sync but more expensive).
By the way, at the moment i'm a Nvidia user.
Because Intel dominates the market with nearly mandatory hardware.
It's actually better for AMD to be in an economic niche at this time, as they don't have Nvidia's anchor features (though Vulkan is looking to really lock in AMD cards as powerhouses, Nvidia has DX12 to flaunt) and if they ever had a release as botched as the 970 (or unfixed 480), they'd never recover
Since macbooks don't have trackpoint, you can suck my cock.
ATI was doing fine before AMD acquired and killed it back in 2006.
>Nvidia is a terrible company too, they only care about money. CUDA and GPGPU though
It's mind boggling AMD is still even as competitive as they are. consider their improvements in architecture
Nvidia
2013 780 ti 2880 cores $700
2014 970 1664 cores $330
same performance
2016 1060 1280 cores $250
%15 faster over 970
AMD
2012 7970 2048 cores $500
2013 280x 2048 cores $300 same speed
2015 380x 2048 cores $240 same speed
2016 470 2048 cores $150 same speed
