Just got a 2nd hand Z68 mainboard. Lined up my i5 2500k carefully, and heard a small crunch as I pulled down the slot. When I opened it up again, see pic related. Are the lower pins on the mainboard bent? How could this have possibly happened? I lined up every correctly, and the CPU and mainboard are compatible.

...

How do you fuck up an LGA CPU? No really how?

wow
while pajeets eat curry and shit in the street, this guy shits curry in the street.

I did everything right, I was very careful. What I want to know is how the fuck this happened?

No couth

Bump

i dont see any bent pins there, the fuck you on about?

Also yes, it DOES make a crunchy sound.

LGA processors go crunkle creep when you put them in normally

Despite potato pic pins look fine

ok serious answer OP
your socket is fine, relax.
it's supposed to be bent like that, different sockets look different. don't freak out, individual pins are not supposed to be bent. those pins are bent like that for your specific socket.

now put the cpu back according to instructions and stop worrying.

The computer won't post. I've reseated the CPU and memory, nothing. No beep codes either because the shitty second hand mainboard apparently doesn't have a built in bios speaker. I forked out 5 pounds for a test kit including a plug-in bios speaker, only to find that the mainboard has no place to plug it in. The mainboard is getting power, it has small LED's that turn on.

>the mainboard has no place to plug it in
What mobo is it?

Asus Z68 (Compatible with Sandy Bridge and Ivy Bridge)

Yeah well, Asus has like 10 boards so which one is it? There should be a text like on my board which is P8Z77-V LK. Find it and post it on a tech support forum, this is not one.

look for burnt traces on the PCB. I've had a second hand P67 that made a teeny tiny fire in my computer because one trace just plainly took fire. It'd not boot before but that was because I didn't have the correct BIOS version for it

How is the type of Asus relevant? It's Z68, Sandy Bridge compatible, which is all that matters. I'll be attempting to return this with Amazon returns (being 2nd hand I'm not sure how that would work, but I'll try)

Already ordered a new i3 Skylake cpu and mainboard this morning. I was hoping to save some money, but I'm done with second hand junk.

>not retetting the bios

because different motherboards have different troubleshooting instructions, please tell us.

also you could lok up the model on their website and look at the manual for it. which might help you find a place to put the speaker. also did you remove the coin battery for like 10 mintues to reset the bios?

Have you read the manual that matches your board and revision

>inb4 OPs ram is fucked and theyre causing the non-boot issue

Take out the ram and try again, new motherboards will still boot to bios without ram inserted.

most motherboards have a set of jumpers near the bios/cmos battery which let you clear the bios instantly.

OP are the fans getting power? CPU fan? do you have a system fan plugged into the motherboard? Does that spin up?

...

Dead CPU or dead motherboard

or dead ram, or dead display, or dead graphics card, or dead display cable.

>How is the type of Asus relevant? It's Z68, Sandy Bridge compatible, which is all that matters.

you didn't do anything right.
I'm never careful with my CPU and yet I always do it right, next time try and put it the right way.

unrelated, but out of curiosity: what is that font, used in your reaction image?

I had the same board and it did the same thing, it ended up being a memory issue and updating bios fixed it.

>I lined up every correctly
You did not.

Asus P8Z68-V PRO Motherboard Socket 1155 Intel Z68 4xddr3 Matx

It's my old ram, known working. I have two sticks, tried both.

No power to the fans.

Suspect dead motherboard. It's my old cpu, again, known working.

I didn't plug in the monitor. No point until the computer actually powers on.

How are you supposed to update the bios if it isn't even turning on?

Yes, I did. The 2nd Gen boards have very specific sockets, there is literally no other way to insert the CPU.

ty man

>Are the lower pins on the mainboard bent?
Can't you check that for yourself? You can fix it if so.

if the fans aren't getting power then the psu isnt turning on, make sure that the power switch to your motherboard is working, try shorting the relevant pins with a screwdriver.

Also do you have disks plugged into the psu? if not try that and tell us if they spin up, if they dont then the psu either is broken or isnt getting the signal to turn on.

The mainboard is getting power, there are two LED's on the mainboard that light up.

standby power != running power

RIGHT

It's a brand new corsair 550w psu, vs a 2nd hand mainboard that's probably 4+ years old. If I were placing bets, I'd say it's far more likely the mainboard than the psu.

Anyway, I'll test the Skylake i3 when it arrives. If it works, I'm ditching the old board.

>hurr how is there any difference between the $189 Asus Z170-P and the $985 Maximus VIII Extreme Assembly
>They're Z170 that's all that matters

And if you weren't a fucking dumb cunt you would realize there's a MUCH higher chance for the corsair modern PSU, which are all shit, to have been DOA than for a board that's worked for 4+ years to suddenly stop working

>a 900 bucks gaming mobo? on socket 1151? can't be real
>let's check newegg
>oh god it's 560 bucks
>worse, there are people in the world that bought it

>Hey, look, it's a new motherboard
>Now, i COULD buy an X99 mobo and a CPU
>But instead, i'm going to buy this overpriced RGB version of an overpriced motherboard
There are people who think this way on the same planet as you RIGHT NOW

>RGB version
People that buy an RGB version of anything should just be removed from the gene pool.

Sometimes you need a bios update for certain CPU's to be recognized. Happens all the time.

Corsair is a very good brand you idiot.

Can't update the bios if it doesn't switch on.

>Corsair is a very good brand you idiot.
Not him but OP confirmed for mucous eating oaf.

>all shit

no user.

>tfw making my first build using Sandy Bridge soon
You're fucking making me nervous OP

Another ignoramus

Do what I should have done and take it to a local pc shop to have it assembled. If they fuck it up, they'll be liable.

I've built countless systems, but always had someone else build my own systems for me for this reason... thought I could get away with it this time, but didn't count on a faulty mainboard.

I doubt that you will even find non-rgb mobo's that aren't super low budget crap in a year or two. The future is rgb's in everything, mark my words in a few years we will even have rgb's build into the power cables and on ssd's.
