The 8350 on release was really powerful.
The downfall was that everything is single threaded and it had too much latency on its cache for gaming.
For computational raw power, it was way better than what Intel offered at the same price.

When it first came out, the 8350 was a video encoding powerhouse. Today a Skylake i5 can probably beat it pretty easily. I still use my 8350 to encode video, though.
