Be honest Sup Forums, why are you even upgrading your PCs?
>graphics stalled and in most cases are going backwards
>games are getting shittier and shittier

Is it because it gives you a purpose? Like working on an old car, fixing it, upgrading it?
I'm truly curious about this, I'd like to have a purpose to.

There's a handful of games. These days it's more about pushing console ports than PC games though.

Because I like to.

Today when I get out of work I have already parts for a living room itx build waiting at home.
Never did a compact build before, should be interesting.

i do more with my computer than playing video games

fuck off to

we all know "I do more with my computer than vidya" is a meme, cut the bullshit

whatever helps you cope with your unproductive, consumerist existence, i guess

You sound like a very cozy person, I like it.

Why not? It is my hobby which I have no problem to feed with money.

Someone likes to fuck around with cars. Someone likes to fuck around with motorcycles.
Someone likes to fuck around with PCs.
Someone is poor and has to present his sperg opinions about anything he can not afford.

Thanks. Plan on selling the build it's replacing, along with my gtx 760, and possibly use that to grab a new gpu, even though I'm sure an a6-5400k will bottleneck the shit out of it.

I upgraded my PC because the CPU just couldn't handle it anymore. Old c2d E4400 @ 2Ghz. Overheats to 60C doing simple web-browsing. God forbid I watch a video using the chipset. It would push the CPU up to 70+ C.

Everything is laggy and hot. Replaced thermal paste and cooler too.

Now I have a 6700k, couldn't be any happier; I upgrade only because of necessity. I understand when other people do it though. Like a 5820k when they want to run multiple VMs or want faster rendering times, like architects, graphic designers, people who work in animation, etc. Even video gamers I guess. Maybe they want to upgrade their screens to a higher resolution for better image quality and their GPUs can't max out settings or take full advantage of the resolution etc.

I very much doubt anyone here is upgrading their entire system every year. But even then, it's their money and they can't do whatever they want with it. What's 1.5k/year for a hobby if you're salary is like 30k+.

there's little reason to upgrade your rig other than gpu after 2012.

DDR4.
m.2 slot.
USB3.1.
Thunderbolt 3 (soon).
Intel® Optane™ Technology (soon).
HEVC Main10 and VP9 hardware decoding.
HDMI 2.0 for output to 4K 60hz TV.
More PCI-e lanes for muh SLI.

"I just use my computer for video games and redditposting on Sup Forums x-DDDDD" - you

Just because you're retarded and not productive doesn't mean the rest of us are like you.

I haven't upgraded my desktop in over 5 years, and I probably won't for another 5.

>salary is like 30k+
I can't believe people subsist on that little.

There's a lot worse than that. Try living with 8k€/year. Luckily bills are low for the moment, so I can save some for tinkering with my pc's.

Living in Portugal truly is suffering.

M8 I just want Vr porn

You realize you can upgrade a lot more than just your graphics card.

But I spend like 10 hours a day on my computer so even small upgrades are worth it to improve my experience.

Depends on where you live. Its possible to live on much less in some states. Even in NYC someone could get by on that.

I am not

My 600 series jewvidia still runs everything I need fine if I need gpu power, otherwise im fine with C2D based desktops too

Because my gpu is being bottlenecked by my cpu. I have to switch out my cpu and mobo.

Sounds rough, but isn't your cost of living much lower than here?

How do you afford a house and a car? I probably spend more than 20k/year on food/gas/bills alone. Even after taxes, 30k is barely enough to get by if you plan to have any retirement funds.

I'm not upgrading, I just shitpost about them for fun

dumb question: why is a ddr4 a reason to upgrade

in what situation would i think "wow glad i have ddr4 instead of ddr3!"

>DDR4
>Reason to upgrade

>HEVC Main10 and VP9 hardware decoding
>Spend $900 to save 25 cents in the power bill

I personally make almost 40k a year. I rent an apartment and take public transportation (NYC). My roommate barely breaks 30k and is comfortable living similarly to me, albeit with less for leisure.

I have a 401k through my job, roommate does not.

Some things are, others not really. You can rent a t0 or even t1 for 200-300€. Low, but already half of what I earn monthly.
On the other hand, gas prices are among the highest in europe, 100€/month in gas alone

>tfw you literally cannot get out of your parents' house

>Be honest Sup Forums, why are you even upgrading your PCs?
Because I can.

neither of those things are true. graphics are improving greatly and so many great games come out each year.

and yes, part of it is passion. i take pride in my rig and i think its fun to work on it.

I have an e2200 and a gt 730, I can almost max warthunder but every other game runs like shit. That's why I'm still trying to upgrade

>4K
>Video editing
>VFX
>Virtual Machines
Sup Forums is not Sup Forums

I'm not. Instead, I'm wasting all my money on laptops and small form factor PCs and putting them all over my house, so I can shitpost everywhere.

(Ok, I am buying some new poofans for my main PC but that's because I'm getting quieter gray ones)

i7 920 master race reporting in.

No need to upgrade my CPU, and I've had it nearly eight years.
