hd600 - maybe could have more bass?
seems kind of dry and boring when i play non classical music like pop or rap

currently looking at LCD-2/HD800 since it went down in price after HD800S

odac on the way, I'm going to send it back if There's no difference between it and my sabre dac, which is what i'm expecting to happen.

Are all those guys on head fi etc actually insane?, surely there's something to dacs besides a clean quiet source. They can't all be THAT fucking mad surely. Anyone here have a dac that improved their listening experience beyond the e10k dac or usb dacs etc?

Confirmation bias and placebo effect are strong and feel very much real. People hear differences when there actually are none.

Conversely, confirmation bias can also make people hear no difference if they're expecting there to be no difference.,

Just some bad 20$ Sennheiser headphones and whatever came free with my phone. Desktop have had Corsair Vengeance 1500 (wired) and current pair is Sennheiser Game One.

It would be good to know if you find any audible differences. I'm using my HD 600 with a FiiO E10 and sometimes I get paranoid.

How is the DAC1 with the HD800s?
I have it myself and have used it with the K701s and HE-400s. I like it with the HE-400s, but K701s feel a tad bright.

Sennheiser Game One is way more expensive than 100 CND. Why are you willing to pay less for new headphones? Don't you like them?

How could a DAC change the frequency response?

Ah, the DAC does not.
DAC1 leaves the frequency response completely unchanged as far as I am aware.
Which is why I was wondering about the HD800s. They are rumored, like the K701s, to have a somewhat bright frequency response.

It';s the DAC2 and they still have some brightness in the treble, or at least give that impression due to the upper midrange recession but are somewhat warm too.

I sold my Valhalla 2 which sounded so similar to the HPA2 and the 'difference's were hardly positive enough to justify keeping it around. Something you'd have to actively listen for to even get anything out of and that is tiresome.

What do you scrubs think about the Monoprice 8323s?

True. Just goes to show how poor tools our senses are. Double blinded tests are the only ones without massive inherent bias.

So interesting that you mention the Valhalla!
I just got the Lyr 2, myself. I brought my full setup to the shop to test this, which was WASAPI > F2k > DAC1 > Lyr 2 > HE-400 / K701

The difference between DAC1 and Lyr 2 was amazingly small! However I enjoyed the minor differences enough to splurge. I'm not sure if I would really recommend getting an amp to go with the DAC1, it is mostly unnoticeable.

I could have sworn that was the Beyerdynamic guy.

The inconvenience of not having the switching socket on the Valhalla 2 and only having RCA preouts also contributed to it.

A headphone with poor earpads made for those who would not spare money for headphones. Faces comptetion from other cheap headphones with poor earpads.

HD800 isn't the first rec for someone who is averse to treble peaks. EQ is always an option, so are destructive mods.

LCD2 doesn't have bass extension issues a la HD600, but I don't know if it the "more bass" you are asking for. Much reduced level from 2-7 kHz compared to HD600. Comfort of the LCD2 would likely come up short vs. HD800.

lol I will definitely report back next friday. My brother has the e10k and it sounds exactly the same as my hifimediy sabre dac (which is cheaper than the e10k but it's plastic and has no volume control etc)

I bought my 'cheap' dac in the first place along with my o2 amp because I was under the impression that the dac just needs to kill on board noise and the o2 combo was very expensive at the time. I eventually caved in and bought an odac to see why so many people bought the o2 amp+dac combo and expensive dacs in general.

I'll test it extensively and i'll let you know. I think we both have a brilliant 'end game' setup but maybe, just maybe the odac will add something, anything. We'll find out lad.

Rock zircone: Too bassy.
ED3: Can't seem too get a good seal with these, plus I don't like the cable.
Havi b3 pro-1: Really enjoyed these, unfortunately they broke.

Also, good isolation is a huge plus.

the HD600s aren't really bad in the treble but I tried a friends momentum in ears and every time I heard a cymbal it was way out of proportion
those also had the worst sibilance ive heard from an audio product

Sounds exactly what I'm looking for, thanks

Is there a difference between Musicbee and Foobar? Why is Foobar the more popular one?

I used to glorify the DAC1 but it gets clobbered by the newer stuff.

What's the name of that material you have your amp on m8?, I used to have a sheet of it years ago and i'd like some more to rest my headphones on when they're not sitting on the rest.

looks like rugliner

I will not deny that.
Still, I think it works perfectly as a DAC and with an external amp it is all I ever could want.

However, I am interested in how the newer units outshine it. Do you have any examples?

Rug or shelf liner.

The HDVD800 that I have, Audio-gd and the Vioelectric stuff came to mind. At least these are what I have personal experience with.

>bright frequency response
try resonance that cant just be eq'd

Are you thinking of K701s, or 800s?

Thanks guys, seems like it's called shelf liner in the UK

ETYMOTIC

My Etymotic are just about to die and I'd like to get something with a removable cable.

Looking at either Shure SE215s, AT ATH-IM50s or MEE audio M6 pros.

Any comments?

They don't seem to be very comfortable. Also, they are said to be "bright".

How so? It's a fucking transparent DAC.

Anything but SE215.

Are the Bose QC35 worth it or are the 25 enough? I'm interested in the Noise Cancellation mainly of course.

I'm curious. Why are you interested in noise cancellation when noise isolation is effectively the same and doesn't require batteries or microphones?

Because they sound shit compared to actual good headphones

I've had a pair of Shure SE215 for about two years now, and the inside of the cables seem to have corroded to the point that sometimes the earphones lose connection. Should I bother buying a new, horribly overpriced headphone, or just switch to something else?

I really like their sound quality, and I find their form factor is perfect.

>The HDVD800 that I have, Audio-gd and the Vioelectric stuff
those are all terrible

I bought them at a time when I had a job, but I don't anymore and my current headphones are breaking. 100$ is the best I can do at the moment :(

PC: Mobo is Gigabyte Z96 G1 Gaming which has Creative 3D onboard (in-built) sound card which is better than Realtek (usual shit tier onboard sound) and no issues after all driver updates for sound card.

Had Gigabyte G1 Sniper previous which had the same onboard sound card and was okay.

Had better sound with my dad's Asus Xonar Essence STX II when fitted to my PC, I really want my own a lot or may be an external amp, not decided yet.

In ear not worthy quality (seen cheap outperform pricy ear pieces too many times).

Corsair 1500 7.1 headphones.
USB port only (no audio jack connections).
Shit tier sound quality overall but reliable and cheap.
7.1 just about works or barely noticeable.
Solid build surprisingly after long use, immediate comfort and passed on to my sister and her BF.

Plantronics GameCon Commander 7.1
Over priced, sound shit tier but better than previous headset, 7.1 works but sound such an appalling quality.
Only works fine through it's USB external sound card (makes onboard sound pointless) and have noise distortion issues with onboard sound when used through audio jack ports.
Build is more solid than previous headset and leather wore in well and became comfortable eventually (solid leather is a known negative for this headset).

>Current headphone.
AKG K702 which has been surprisingly better overall on almost all fronts.

Sound is much better and has worked well with external microphone (Antlion audio) so far.

Quality a little less than both previous but good for price. Gaymin headphones suck shit.

Hes a big pop fan (sort of getting into rock) and listens to alot of Chvrchs, Foals, Grimes and the 1975 so keep that in mind

Sennheiser HD 215-II

Wireless feature or not. That's about it.

HD600 and 800 are two very different models.
Senn in-ears retain few of the characteristic of the headphone line, for better or for worse. From a brief listen, I only vaguely recall peaks on Momentum, it was offset by an impression of a general downward slope and distinct lack of midrange energy.

Different poster.
It's really bass heavy, particularly to the subbass.
This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but any in-ear can put out an absurd amount of bass and is in fact the most common signature. It's also a lot more bass than what most people would want.
It's nice because it checks a lot of features that people ask for: replaceable cables (MMCX connectors), high isolation, easy fit, and so on. Less so on sound.

You're really going to spend $200 on headphones for porn? Get out.

im not sure if youre stupid or not

he enjoys watching porn and he is scared that when he is not using his headphones for music and rather for porn if they were open others would be able to hear it

Headphones for porn is stupid fucking idea anyways
If I REALLY had to choose, I'd go for open and keep them in low volume so the sound porn is in the background so I'm aware what is happening
With closed headphones anyone can sneak up behind you without you even noticing.

ether?

shit. the th-02 is way better for half the price, even if it still need new pads as well.

meelectronics m6 pro? I have heard it's less bassy than the m6 but still bass boosted. it isolates very well. etymotic is the only IEM that isolates well without bass boost but it does it through triple flange deep insertion so you might not like that.

Looking to get a Dual RCA female to 3.5mm female cord. Are they all more or less the same?

Looks like normal damping material that people would use in mods.

Just get Hosa cables from amazon.

The drivers use some cIEMs but I have no idea about the model. In the pits many have QC25/QC35.

Why do I keep seeing radio djs with these shitty Apple ear buds, is there some benefit to them I don't know about?

Also recommendations for radio studio headphones

with that budget you're pretty much stuck with sidegrades. hd600, dt880, PM3. not much with real leather pads at that price. best best would be a used mad dog/ alpha dog.

you've already been told the most comfortable in your range

xpt100, though it's a bit more

439 is best iirc

dt770

Is that Daniel Ricciardo

Yes.

Why not use them? It's not like you need something fancy for radio. You often see DT770, DT250, M50 and MDR-V6/7506 in radio. Some use the HD-25 and its variations too.

it doesn't look as thick, just looks like average foam. also damping goes in the cups normally, right?

It's probably like the Ether 1.1 foam where you put it over the driver behind the pad.

>It's not like you need something fancy for radio
I guess but if it was your job you'd think you would want something a little higher quality than a $3 ear bud or at least something more comfortable.

yeah that's what I was thinking. might buy it but the vague chink description and possibly no instructions put me off.

Is she a guest or someone working there full time? She probably doesn't want to ruin her hair with headphones and can use those buds on all devices. EarPods aren't uncomfortable... at least not for me.

Currently have DT-880 600 ohms, with O2 + ODAC combo. Love them, would also like to know if I should change my amp/dac combo if I go for better headphones.

hd 800 s

No. Do not buy this memeshit.

fuck off poorfag there is not a single headphone on the planet that is more comfortable.

haha "memeshit" that's so fucking clever!

How do you shills justify your 1600 purchase with that cheapass plastic?

Ether and yeah, the HD800S.
Overall, the HD600 is still more neutral than the both of them.

Audeze build quality is as shit as Hifiman's.

plastic is used in stealth bombers

cheap wood is not

Build quality and sound quality are both much better than the 800s.

so I did the hd414 pad mod on my portapro, and it's damn good. basically takes away the upper bass and lower mid bloat, but retains the bassy impact and rise, just restrains it to below 200hz for the most part. it's significantly less dark too, more elevated upper mids and treble. sounds like the ksc75 now, but without the slightly grainy treble.

I have the pads on the stock way, like the hd414, some people cut a hole and then reverse it. people also combine that with the kramer mod (holes drilled into the plastic retainer thing over the driver. both expose the driver more to your ear which increases the highs. but imo highs are good enough like this, any more and they would get sibilant and/or harsh imo. I think most of the sound changes simply come from more distance to the ear, from thicker foam.

comfort is also great now. it was ok before with good placement but these pads eliminate the problem of irritating the out ear flesh/lobes after a while.

>comparing bright to dark signature

post a single photo of a broken hd800. protip: you can't.

they still don't know how to get even pad thickness or align fazors properly. they must be hand assembled by a blind man.
