I still think this was their best one. Wasn't that Brian Eno that did that?

KRRR KRRRRR KRRRRR KRRRRR KKK RRRR
I miss being able to hear my HDD.
> can't tell when a program has crashed because the HDD is making the same sound on a loop.
> can't tell if a program is frozen because you can't hear the HDD chatter away as it loads in the background.
> can't tell whether a small executable is raping you in the background because of all the sudden HDD thrashing.
> less warning of a HDD failure becuase you can't hear the coils like you could in older stepper based head actuators.
> dat relief during win98 boot when you'd hear HDD activity start again after that 15 or so second pause during driver load, and that rage when it DIDN'T come back because the last driver you loaded has raped your system.
Every time I fire up an oldenboxen I get dem HDD sound feels
>he fell for the SSD meme
the old steam skin was cool
now you can only make it look like the old one, but can't get rid of all the bloat
>tfw you used to be able to tell who manufactured your drive (and even the exact model) just by listening to the seeking mechanism
>tfw vendors actually used to care about their disks, making beautiful looking designs that were unique from manufacturer to manufacturer
>now in 2016 they don't even name their drives anymore
>everything's made by two megacorporations formed from twenty years of fucked up mergers
>seeking mechanisms have been perfected so well and drives soundproofed so well that they're almost silent
>yet Sup Forums is still full of literal aspergerites crying for pages and pages about how "loud" they are
Good job posting the inferior one.
>270 kb/s back then

it took me 2 weeks to download cs1.6
do you know if theres a way of replacing the steam message notification soundfile without it being replaced everytime steam checks for updates ?
That was normie Internet speed in Germany in 2003
>do you know if theres a way of replacing the steam message notification soundfile without it being replaced everytime steam checks for updates ?
Interesting, thought I was the only one who did this. This happens to me too, I try not to update ever unless I get rebooted, but I would keep a message_new.wav in the folder.
good for you
did you read the last line of my post?
>tfw you used to be able to tell who manufactured your drive (and even the exact model) just by listening to the seeking mechanism
Man, I came across a 486 some time ago and knew what type of drive it had simply from it's chatter pattern at POST. I used to have a tower full of 1.08GB fireballs, I'd recognise that sound anywhere. The (younger) guy with me was gobsmacked
>steam
wonID's and the sheer hatred when we all had to convert over to the steam platform to play cs is nostalgia for me
youre not alone
>wwiiol will never be huge again
>you will never take part in a massive attack force of tanks planes infantry and artillery against the enemy again
i hated it at the start too
when i buy a physical game and expect to be able to play it in a few minutes, only to be prompted to download a 3rd party program, where i download most of the game with shitty 2000's internet
I don't use Steam, sorry.

ICQ > MSN
I still know my number, lol. It's been burned into my head.
WTF / miafasz?
anyone else get a comfier feeling on the old windows UI than the current one? it's probably nostalgia goggles but still
Magyar Terry Davis
Well I am not. Fucking hospitals use that shit nowadays and they break down every minute. Once they will fuck up their database and everybody will be fucked.
I loved it. It doesn't really want to distract you with cheesy effects and animations.
i literally never heard of anyone that used ICQ or AOL, despite seeing the option in many programs
are those america-only kind of things?
What does a GUI have to do with a system breaking down? Are you technologically illiterate?
i think he meant to say old windows, not the old GUI
come on guys, can't we just get along
Germany here. Pretty much everyone used ICQ
...
Ausfag here, I was ICQ from about 1997 till 2003-ish. It always felt like there were more eurofags popping up in user searches on ICQ than anyone else. I think ICQ is all but dead to anyone outside of Russia now anyway.

It's like i'm right back in the 90's user..
He tricked me too kek
did i do good?
You monster stop this!

?
who remembers this off the windows 95 cd?

Just my curiosity but how old are you?
And why do you keep posting in a place with such a high amount of youngsters?
I'm not much older than 2002 kiddy computer you replied to but I'm getting tired of the highschoolers / freshmen spilloff from Sup Forums or the like.
OH FUCK
what's the game called again? I need to play it!
It didn't cross my mind to check the filename or do a google search, sorry.

Nothing quite like that frightening screech to make sure you knew you were dealing with a MiniScribe drive.
This one illustrates it better
youtube.com
Holy shit. I recall having some ST-506 drives in one of my first XT's but I don't recall how noisy it was. To think that that sort of auditor violence was once the norm is insane. I'd shit my pants if I heard a noise like that coming from a modern system.
Not that guy, but I'm 37. I guess you just get to a point where it either becomes too much and you fuck off, or you transcend and let it wash over you. Besides, its like trolling fish in a barrel. Great way to blow some steam off.
Not sure but I know it was a really old game on newgrounds or something. I think they still use his face when you rate something?
Ruskie here
everyone and their mother used ICQ, no AOL though or MSN even, up until Skype came out everyone used ICQ
>I'd shit my pants if I heard a noise like that coming from a modern system.
Of course, but I'd do the same if I saw a drive that big that wasn't loud.
...
nobody which actually used w95 remember that screen. most users probably didn't saw it even once.
Yes, and he actually made it on a Mac.
GetRight. My niggah. I don't know HOW much shit we got downloaded because of that. Backwoods dial-up through ORNL. 4kb/s was a DAMN good day.
SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT
I meant the UI (its appearance, not its performance)
God yes this.
