It's only going to get worse over time not better. It's a simple bait and switch, get users during the free period then lock everything down with updates you can't disable.

it really is. the whole thing has been a deceitful, dirty trick.

get a mac, or install linux

But whats going to happen when they eventually stop patching win7 ? Will i then be forced to switch to have a secure OS ?

absolutely no fucking reason to switch from 7 to 10 except spyware. better performance if you never trimmed your 7 down and a useless 'gayming' api that isn't even going to catch on.

stick with win7 til the 16 exabyte ram limit becomes an issue, that was the only reason i switched from xp in the first place. i thought people learned from vista and 8 not to just hop to the newest dog shit OS as soon as it's available but people are fucking idiotic consumers and they are going to be the downfall of everything that is good by supporting this stupid fucking os and its creator's cancerous business practices. jesus christ, even most of my friends have switched to 10 and when i asked them why it's always 'i clicked the shiny button' and when i ask why they dont go back 'im not a computer nerd' or 'windoez 10 hasn't given me any issues name me one issue i have had :^)'

like literal children

i dont even care anymore, fuck computers and where they're going. im going to become a sustenance farmer in peru and wait for the world to end.

>Is the privacy issues fixed ?
Yes. By default, it's going to have the telemetry turned on, but you can easily turn it off in the settings during the installation process.
You should definitely try it out while it's still free, and if you don't like it you can go back to Windows 7. It's literally the last day that it's free, so you should honestly just secure your free activation key before it's too late. I promise you won't regret it!

>Will i then be forced to switch to have a secure OS ?
not being a moron or large corporate entity will leave you secure enough.

Will i get to keep the key for future installations too ?

You're posting on the internet. You have no privacy.

...

forgot to mention both VM's are running Visual Studio Community 2015.

also, take note of the network activity on the 10 vm

oh man the new task manager looks so much better. you convinced me, upgrading right now

it's worse than ever

They even removed the policies to limit telemetry.

sent. :^)

Can you use Windows 10 while it's deactivated? Say you didn't have a key when you installed or something and you had to use it with no key. Is it usable or does it lock you out?

Been there. Done that. It's shit. Went back to 8.

use microsoft toolkit, retard

>oh man the new task manager looks so much better.
Kill yourself.

Only a masochist would downgrade back to Win8. Staying on Win7 is justifiable. Then again there's still a lot of people still on XP, some folks just dgaf

there's more metro crap in 10 than on 8. and metro is what everyone hated about 8. both are shit, but 10 is worse

welp, I'm gonna go ahead and upgrade because right now I am using a pirated copy of windows 8.1 anyway (which was upgraded to from a pirated copy of windows 7)

can finally have a legit copy of windows

that only works from 7 with daz loader. if you try from 8 it will fail activation. either way, the best that you can get is pro, which is shit. if you want 10 use Ent LTSB (not the regular CBB)

what fucking metro? there are optional tiles in start menu and that's it

I have successfully done it before on my brother's new computer, which was 8.1 using KMSPico as a crack at the time of the upgrade.

After W10 installed, I got rid of KMSPico and was left with a legit W10 key. My bro's been using it for like 4 months now

>upgraded to windows 10
>had to troubleshoot just to install
>finally get it
>color scheme is buggy, limited, looks like ass
>have to regedit to change color schemes
>finally get it working to acceptable level after 2 days or so.

Updates do break shit though. I had an update forced on me, and it made source quality video completely fuck my display. Green lines, flickering etc. It fixed itself now but I was salty.

As of now though, it's working on the same level as 7. No complaints. Interesting things like hyper-v included compared to 7 too.

settings application (try changing your wallpaper or managing tray icons). start menu itself is moders crap too.

ok then.

>with a legit W10 key
hsould have digital entitlement, the upgrade path does not give you an activation (RTM) key.

>digital entitlement
so if I am able to get this to work one time during my upgrade today, W10 will forever be activated on my PC (unless I change the CPU or mobo)?

Can I reformat and reinstall completely from scratch ~two weeks from now, and it will still recognize my copy of W10 as valid as soon as it connects to the internet and sees my hardware ID?

>so if I am able to get this to work one time during my upgrade today, W10 will forever be activated on my PC (unless I change the CPU or mobo)?
yes, should be.

>Can I reformat and reinstall completely from scratch ~two weeks from now, and it will still recognize my copy of W10 as valid as soon as it connects to the internet and sees my hardware ID?
yes. go from a pro version of 7 or 8 so you have 10 pro.

excellent, thank you
I have 8.1 pro so that's all good

Yes, you will be forced to purchase windows 10. Which is why there is no reason not to get it for free today.

The only reason they want to give it away now is so they can say

>X number of people installed it, why haven't you.

Once they reach that number it will cost $$$.

by then it'll probably have another pc and have to buy a new copy of 10, since the upgraded one is oem. nice try pajeet

>i dont even care anymore, fuck computers and where they're going. im going to become a sustenance farmer in peru and wait for the world to end.

No you aren't.

it's literally a free license to windows. You dont even have to use it, you just have to claim it by the end of the day today. I don't see any good reason to ignore it.

I'm going to get it because I want to be able to play those xbone / W10 only games when they come out

>i don't care if i get spyed on atleast i get to play muh vidya xD
gaymers have destroyed computers.

? All you have to do is call in, say you changed some parts and they will let you activate it on the new hardware. That is how it has always worked.

Also if you plan on using win 10 on your new machine why not use it on your current one?

I'm currently using pirated win7
I'd rather have big official corporations like microsoft be the ones spying on me than whoever made the crack I'm using

Dude take a cheel peel

Meh windows 10 was good till it started ass raping my hard drive recently for no reason. serious why the fuck is it using half my ram and using 100% of my drive all the time till it became useless.

oo-software.com/en/shutup10

I got this turned on all the options and now its back to normal... tho i
went back to my windows 7 backup drive.. fuck w10

I just upgraded, should I fresh install or is it just an unfounded meme that I will get better performance from it?

bumping this thread for interest

my pc runs 8.whatever

I have a disk, so if I don't like 10 I can go back anytime.

I know 7 is supposed to be better then 10 but what about 8?

7 > 10 Ent LTSB > 8.1 > 10 Pro
Make your mind, it's not that difficult. Performance wise they're the same.

>even most of my friends have switched to 10 and when i asked them why it's always 'i clicked the shiny button' and when i ask why they dont go back 'im not a computer nerd' or 'windoez 10 hasn't given me any issues name me one issue i have had :^)'

Are you me? I don't want this feel

People exaggerate how bad the "spying" is. Your smartphone is probably collecting more data on you. Do research yourself before deciding.

That's the thing. Mostly it is assumed using a phone has next to no privacy anyway.

Using a "personal computer" was generally assumed to be sacrosanct unless you did anything through it using a browser; even then, you could write a document, record yourself jacking off on your computer and unless you uploaded it, you had the expectation of privacy.

Now, Windows 10 effectively brings phone-like privacy invasion to the desktop which is disconcerting as there practically is no where to run. Welcome to the panopticon.

>X is "probably" collecting more personal data than Y
>Therefore, you shouldn't care Y collects data
Motherfuck

Proof? Also so what?

Lifelong Windows user here. I'm not upgrading. The whole thing smells like a trap, it's so fucking shady. If it's free, you are the product.

A bit hesitant to switch to Linux as it's a huge fragmented wasteland out there, but Mac is even worse. So I see no option. Guess I'll go with Mint first, it look sexy good for casuals like me.

I would hate to be Peruvian. Imagine all the bullying you get on a daily basis from Chileans.

I was recommended to use Macrium Reflect to make a backup and then restore it or something? But then the tutorial video I'm watching gets to this part with a Rescue Media Wizard and the guy picks the Linux option cause apparently the Windows options are shit? Well I don't know how to Linux so I'm a bit worried now.

The privacy issues have been there since XP and vista and will stay forever. They were just more explicit in telling you this time. Using windows 7 over 10 at this point is just kind of dumb, you miss out on a bunch of minor improvements to the general functionality of the OS and gain nothing.

>A bit hesitant to switch to Linux as it's a huge fragmented wasteland out there, but Mac is even worse.

Not even close. Both operating systems are solidly built on top of modular unix and BSD roots and philosophies. OSX is much more locked down due to it being a proprietary OS as opposed to Windows and Linux, buth both it and GNU/Linux are very solid operating systems, and if you're lacking the software support on Linux, the issue does not exist on OSX.

You can't ever completely disable windows 10 telemetry.
Microsoft is actively pushing towards making this ever harder to do as well - see the recent group policy change (which really insidiously simply ignores user settings altogether, without notifying the user in any way) for example.
You should not support this operating system.

just do pic related

You can make a Reflect image if you want; you'll probably never use it though

fix'd

No, but word is if you call MS support they'll help you do a new install to your other machine.

it's more than just the nsa

because they are bitcoin mining on your computer. welcome to the literal botnet

>A bit hesitant to switch to Linux as it's a huge fragmented wasteland out there, but Mac is even worse.
>mac is even worse
what makes you say that? sounds like you've never honestly given a mac a try. they are awesome

It seems to be fully functional with the exception of some personalization options in the Settings app.

It's hard to believe telemetry actually can't be turned off and them fighting users that want to turn it off. what is microsoft trying to accomplish with this?

When is the anniversary update coming?

>Last day to get this for free.
Still not on 1 Billion desktops.
My bet is the "offer" will be extended until it is.
Microsoft needs to hit this target for credibility.

I just got it.

>I just got cucked. Now to repost the same 11 transsexual porn pictures on Sup Forums.

Are you Alex?

>Forced updates

This is no arch or UNIX, an update almost never breaks shit.

>Still not on 1 Billion desktops.
>My bet is the "offer" will be extended until it is.
>Microsoft needs to hit this target for credibility.
They gave up already, blamed it on WP10 sales, they were hoping phones and xbones would contribute hundreds of millions of units to w10 devices.

I'm done with Windows 10 bullshit. my computer came with Windows 10 on it so I'm not sure if it's even possible for me to downgrade.

What's the best way to acquire Windows 7?

I actually just installed so i made my pirate install into legit one.
Then deleted it all to reinstall 7 again.

This. They should had let the telemetry bullshit enabled by default but with options to disable it. It's not like they are losing something, on the contrary, the average Joe would just use the system without ever knowing about that shit and the "advanced user" would just disable and use their system. It's a win-win situation.

And?

This is like a story where you end up at the same spot.
You need to change and maybe kys.

You can't ever completely disable windows 10 telemetry.
Microsoft is actively pushing towards making this ever harder to do as well - see the recent group policy change for example.
Even if you yourself are not concerned about the data collection, you still expose information about your friends and family via Microsoft's aggressive surveillance methods.
You should not use, support or endorse this operating system.

The spyware has been backported to Windows 7 and 8.1 as well.
You can much more easily remove it though - all it takes is uninstalling the related updates.
You can find out which via a quick google search for 'telemetry updates for windows 7 and 8.1', and then hiding them in Windows Update.
Don't forget to check for these every month or so, as Microsoft can push out new updates anytime that can reinstall the spyware.

I believe now i can switch into a legit w10 copy if i ever need to, even if now is not the time.

once you try 10, it's hard use 7 again

>Is the privacy issues fixed ?
Yes, now you can't disable telemetry.

fat

Im a forza fag so had too

Not many problems, had to do a clean install though

Honestly it's not exactly that much better. For my PC they both operate at about the same speed on everything but booting time, which 10 takes the prize for. Aside from that, and exclusive games/Dx12, I can't really say there's that much of a reason to upgrade. There's other changes of course, it's just that they're mostly minor ones.

I have a W10 key, I updated and went back W8.1 I am sticking with 8.1 for the foreseeable

Where can I get W7/8.1 licences cheap and legit for new build?

Know that feel. Halo's been dragging me by the balls everywhere it goes, and I figured if MS was going to keep their word with the play anywhere schtick, that it'd be nice to just play Halo on my PC instead.

Issue is what I'd ever need the Xbone for at that point. Conversely, I could just get rid of this privacy headache by switching back to 7, and continue playing Halo on Xbone anyway.

Windows 10 is a real shit. I have just install and im thinking go back to w7..
>automatic windows update (no control on it)
>say i'm offline coz i have a wifi card but i'm connected by a cable
>it dont save my parameters
>tracker everywhere

I have W10 on my laptop (I went offline yesterday though) and I just returned from college to a familiar W7 desktop. Honestly, without any memes, I find W7 the much superior OS.

I understand why MS decided to go down the app route etc (I actually like the W8 startscreen) . But the constant updates that mess up my old wi-fi drivers and annoying start menu does my head in.

I'm astounded that my KMSPico install of 8.1 pro was given an entitlement to Windows 10. Is MS security this bad or was it an intentional choice in the name of keeping everybody on the upgrade treadmill?

Pretty sure it's intentional.
People were quite excited when they announced that it would work for inactivated windows as well.

It's not over yet. You could still get it.

microsoft.com/en-us/accessibility/windows10upgrade

If you are an average user, just change already. Most of the stuff that is criticized don't affect probably about 90% of home users, and the ones that get affected are annoyed, it's not outright unusable. That's how they get away with just about everything.

What I mean is, if you are in Windows for compatibility games and stuff (which are the only reasons to stay in windows in 2016) just upgrade already, you'll notice absolutely no difference. Otherwise move to a friendly distro, there's no point in complaining to a company that does not listen. Just don't buy or use their products.

>intentionally using out of date software

if you do this you are the cancer

cancer like you is why we have so many standards problem and backwards compatibility bloat built into everything
