My first computer I had was the black macbook. I had that for about 2 years before my mom lost it.
Next, I got a macbook 13 inch in 2008. I've really liked this computer since I got. The reason I've never upgraded is mainly because it has a disc drive, and every now and then I buy a music cd. Yea, I know, hipster, whatever, but I like it. Also, my car has no aux, so I burn cd's sometimes too.
But I am fucking finished. I will be going the linux route within the next year. Forget the fact that El Capitan doesn't do shit for my box (no airplay and many other new features). That's all fine, honestly. It's to be expected when using hardware from 8 years ago.
No, what really pisses me off is this piece of shit fucking whore photos app. For a long time I defended apple. People would say to me, "they don't give the user enough power; they force you to do things their way," and I would say their way is usually the right way and if you spend a little time you can configure it how you want it. Just a week ago a coworker was telling me (I have a software dev internship this summer) how he looked into disabling the startup noise for his imac (it's the company machine), and he found it simply wasn't worth the work because of how many hoops he'd have to jump through to do it. I basically just kind of laughed and thought, "who gives a shit?"
But this piece of shit photos app is too far. It's like they heard all those criticisms and said, "let's REALLY push em over the edge!" For one thing, it's a huge pain in the ass. Nothing is accessible. There's a whole export process just to move a fucking image. I guess drag and drop is just way too fucking complicated. But even that wouldn't piss me off this much.
No, what pisses me off is when I have Sup Forums open in chrome and want to upload an image. I go /user/Pictures/ and I see Photos Library. I figure, oh wow, maybe I can upload from here? So I double click it. Nothing happens. "oh well, worth a try." I close the upload box, and go through the shite export process to put the photo on my desktop. Go back to Sup Forums, and click on upload. Nothing happens. Click again. Nothing happens. Page won't scroll. Go to another page, won't scroll. Try to open new tab, works. Try to go to facebook, nothing. Nothing will load or scroll. Chrome is essentially frozen. Force quit. Nothing. Force quit. Nothing. Force quit. Nothing. Restart computer. "surely that was a fuckup, I'll try the same thing again. I don't expect it to upload, but surely nothing will crash." SAME FUCKIN SHIT. Fuck you apple, then again I haven't bought one of you dickcheese boxes in 8 years, so it's not like you're losing all that much when I switch, but fuck you more because I'm going to get my decenty tech savvy dad on linux too. So eat a dick, tim cook. You're like, less than 1/100th as impressive as Jobs anyway.
Oh and the apple watch it shit. How did that get released in that state?
Samuel Powell
Same senpai. Spent 7 hours trying to get it to work for my iPhone and still doesn't. Won't be buying abother one. I'd prefer a Nokia and a dslr camera.
I contacted apple support and the cuck technical supervisor could not fix the fucking photos. Had to do with errors with iCloud.
I have to sync photos with iTunes and have probably 1 gig of fucking duplicates.
Honesty th pics on this thing are shit too. iPhone photography my ass. I carry my dslr with me now.
Asher Diaz
I force quit photos when I plug the SD card from my DSLR in and use Lightroom instead.
Nathan Torres
>a nokia and a dslr camera Fucking kek
Nathan Young
to this day, any photo you upload to iCloud will have it's time/date taken changed to cupertino... and it's been like that for years.
and to this day: any birthdate you have for an Outlook contact on Windows, will be changed a day later... and its been like that for years.
moral? every system has its quirks. its just which quirks can you put up with more. i'm not as familiar as i'd like to be with El Capitan, but my OS X runs smoothly and i dont use the photos app. my win 10 and win 7 boxes are incredible, too.
But my BSD box? Far, far superior. Before you think Linux is good, see BSD. Light years ahead of the game.
Joseph Brown
>mom "lost" a computer >Facebook I'm sure mommy will buy you a new computer, Tommy.
Zachary Phillips
keith?
Carter Flores
this is not a quirk I'm talking about though. This is absolute dogshit functionality. Where does apple get off in thinking drag and drop is a bad feature? Application crash on trying to open an un-opennable thing is not a quirk. It's just all around bad.
Camden Edwards
Eric?
Aaron Davis
I have a Macbook Air and the most annoying thing about it is that iTunes automatically opens and plays the first song on the playlist everytime the headphones cable moves. I deleted the playlist and moved thr playlist to another music player to stop it playing music all the time. It's really fucking infuriating and I have no idea how to stop it.
Mason Ramirez
yes, but you can't say anything when your machine is 8 years old, and it's APPLE. Bend over or move along, fanboy.
Nathan Bennett
>Apple.
Found your problem.
Jayden Lee
>Apple >I have a software dev internship this summer >who gives a shit?

lol, better hold on to your fedora.
Jack Jones
Is BSD really that much better than Linux? I've never tried it.

install iPhoto
Levi Myers
In before OP switches back to OS X within two weeks because of how unusable Linux is in comparison.
Josiah Davis
I'm not taking this lightly. I'm starting school again in fall, so I'll make the change next summer. Hopefully that gives me a year to research my options and make an educated decision, and also find more shit I hate with apple.
Jayden Peterson
I've found Photos much nicer than iPhoto ever was. The cloud stuff just works for me. I basically only use it for iPhone photos. Real photos live in Lightroom. Lightroom is the heavy lifter. Photos is there for casuals. Like you, apparently.
Eli Long
That's what I've never understood about Apple and why normies are just fucking fascinated by iPhones and Macbooks. I thought the whole point of using an Apple product is that it's supposed to be simple and intuitive to use, and yet I can't even fucking drag and drop files from one device to another. No, you have to sign into iTunes and sync with your cloud account and do this, that and the other thing, all for a simple fucking file transfer. There are a million things like that, and I just get so fed up with the ecosystem that it makes me sick.
Ryder Green
is it possible to install iPhoto on El capitan?
Matthew Ramirez
I just deleted it and forgot it existed.
Easton Sanders
yeah, why not?
Noah Nelson
OP I don't know what the fuck you're doing but dragging pictures out of Photos works fine for me.
Also, Chrome is notoriously shit on OS X because Google doesn't give two flying fucks about efficiency.
Also, you can in fact access pictures in Photos from upload dialogs. Scroll the source list to the bottom and select Photos (see pic)
Benjamin Morgan
>not using the 15" Macbook Pro with Retina Display
found your problem. it's really the only one worth getting tbqh
Mason King
I did a similar thing a few years ago. Had an iMac, iPhone and iPad for a few years. But the update to Lion was disastrous. Screen stopped working properly, so I tried dual booting into Linux, and found that not only were the rendering issues fixed, but it ran quicker. The more I used Linux, the more I realised how restrictive the Apple business model is - proprietary formats etc. Eventually, I got rid of OS-X altogether when the contract expired on my iPhone and I went over to Android.

I've also suffered though Apple's bs recently. Bought iPhone 6s Plus 2 days ago and tried to download movies and applications on it. Appears that you can't download anything on iOS without Wi-Fi that's over 100Mb. What the fuck. I have an unlimited 4G connection which serves as my main plan. I used to used to share this connection to my computer when I'm at home. It also appears this limit can't be bypassed without jailbreaking. I live in the middle of a forest and thus this limitation literally makes iPhone useless to me. Brb returning this piece of shit. How do some of you faggots use this.
Christian Walker
Well, I don't live in the middle of a forest for one
But yeah that's lame, didn't know that you literally cannot override that
Dominic Gray
>How do some of you faggots use this. I generally don't download large 100MB+ files over a cellular connection. Mainly because I'm on Cricket's poorfag 10GB/mo plan, and I'm almost always near a Wi-Fi source.
You've already mentioned that you need to jailbreak the phone to bypass the download restriction, and it's readily available to jailbreak on the current firmware, so what's the fucking problem?
Owen Cox
>My first computer I had was the black macbook Why did this make me feel so old. GET OFF MY IMAGEBOARD YOU FAGGY YOUNGSTER
arguably the best point and shoot every, easily competes with mirrorless cameras. Just use a microSD card to import to android or the SD adapter for iPhone
I do: >Front right pocket: Phone >Front left pocket: Camera >Back left pocket: Wallet with house key tucked inside
It's not ideal but I only bring it on days that I know I want to shoot pics.
The problem is that voids warranty... I will rather use an Android phone. Buying Note soon. 100Mb... Feels like I jumped 10 years back in time.
Carson Carter
Are you legitimately retarded?
Logan Long
Where I live most people use their 4G as a primary connection. There's really no alternative to this either here. Unlimited plans are cheap and really fast here too. I can't imagine anyone using an iPhone in rural areas like this. No wonder I don't see them ever here.
Nathan Bell
Where do you live ? There are no unlimited plans where I live.
Tyler Perez
Hey OP, who clip-clopped on your bridge?
Asher Stewart
Finland. People use 4G often even in towns here. Same in other Northern European countries. Apple is basically saying fuck you to a big part of our population with this limit.
Elijah Richardson
Lol at this piece of shit. I can't watch HD YouTube or update the OS at my home with this with my 100Mbps connection. A thing I took for granted with Android. Nice €900 phone appru
Alexander Cox
awolnation pls go
Jaxon Turner
>because Google doesn't give two flying fucks about efficiency Maybe just on Mac. I've certainly heard of enormous battery improvements using Safari because it can use some API only available to Apple-signed apps which lets it schedule its CPU wakeups better. It's pretty much always been decent in Windows.
William Jackson
>can't solve simple issues yourself >let's switch to Linux
This gone be gut.
Thomas Collins
>There's a whole export process just to move a fucking image Wait, if you're just trying to move an image from one place to another... why not just use Finder?
Jonathan Rivera
BSD is just fundamentally different. Think the Bazaar and the Cathedral.
BSD is to Linux as OSX is to Windows. The first is designed to be a coherent system with every aspect under the project's control to ensure consistency. The second is designed to let you do whatever the fuck you want, even if that means being retarded; Linux is obviously much more like this than Windows, but you get the point.
Angel Cruz
> hdd formatted in hfs > classmate tries to open in windows > "pls format" presses ok > 40gb video material lost Thanks apple

> fundamentally Not really, there's a lot in common. It looks like a more conservative source-based hardened Linux. > software from ports, headers are updated through svn > no systemd > no root ssh login by default, "make" aborts if there's a known vulnerability in the software, broadcast messages if somebody logins as root, etc.
Levi Edwards
Just don't use the Photos app, It's always been crap, organize your pictures in folders like a true patrician.
Aiden Powell
>I guess drag and drop is just way too fucking complicated. But I do exactly that. It's a shame though that you can't easily access the photos in Finder. I hate how Apple aggressively tries to disassociate from how computers used to be used.
Cooper Harris
There is no reasons to use BSD for a desktop/laptop. If your pc is recent enough you may not find the correct driver and you'll have to deal with a crappy port of the linux one. You better know what you're doing if you really want to go with an even more marginal os in the pc market. In the other hand any BSD-based system can be really powerful if you know exactly what you need it for.
Adrian Thomas
They do that because not everyone is as lucky as you to have an unlimited plan. Although carriers are now coming around to listening to customers wanting unlimited. True no way to change it without jailbreaking. Granular setting for the cellular function in iPhone is a severely lacking area that android does way better. Being able to set soft and hard caps on how much data you use per month is a god send and I don't know why Apple has even put a dumbed down version of this in yet.
The reason why photos app that was introduced with Yosemite in 10.10.3 sucks so badly is because Apple is trying to provide compatibility with existing customers' iPhoto libraries. YET while simultaneously cutting features out because they know that people who even partially dabble with settings on photos will be using products from Adobe. Most normies just plug in their phone download the photos to their computer and then let iTunes sync the photos library into the idevice. Not even that sometimes because people just keep their photo libraries stuck in the camera roll on their phones. There were rumors that Apple was going to bring back iPhoto settings into the photos for Sierra but I haven't seen any news since the betas not have I looked into the actual app on my beta install. Very likely the changes will come in a mid Sierra update.
Blake Reed
If you close Firefox in Windows, unless you've fucked with the defaults in some way I didn't even know existed, if you close the Window it terminates the process.
If you close Firefox on a Mac, to his understanding and to mine, the software is still open in the background consuming resources.
Jayden White
Which is how things are supposed to be. Windows has conditioned everyone to expect things to run like how Windows does (which is wrong).
Aaron Bennett
You can't. iPhoto stores pictures in one big container file. If it gets corrupted in any way all your photos are fucked.
Michael Miller
For what purpose senpai? Aside from forcing me to use context menus to close things.
Andrew Wilson
So it can be opened faster next time.
Mason Foster
There's litterally a 1 second difference. It just confuses rhe crap out of the normies apple shills to when they have to restart an app for any reason.
James Robinson
I'm not saying it's good or bad. I'm even thinking about buying a Macbook as a compliment to my desktop just because I want a Unix-like environment and I'm tired of constantly tweaking shit in Linux. Both operating systems have different approaches. The Windows approach to my understanding is to store frequently accessed files and such in a quickly accessed cache, because even if the program is terminated, it can still quickly load it again because parts of it are still in cached memory. Mac OS really just has its own way of doing the same thing as far as I can tell.
Ethan Gonzalez
>Letting normies touch your data >not having backups

>apple Found your problem.
Gabriel King
>They do that because not everyone is as lucky as you to have an unlimited plan.
Like I explained in my other message, and contrary to what you say and think, here basically everyone does have just that. Welcome to Europe. Well at least the Northern parts. 100Mbps unlimited 4G for dirt cheap(starting 15€/mo) for everyone. iPhones are useless here. They are losing a lot of customers here because not everyone place is as shit as the US. Android gives me the exact same data cap warning but lets me ignore it permanently. iShit Just says fuck you and fuck your superior europoor technology not letting you download shit.
Austin Hughes
>Live in Yurop >Only proper connection is 4G and is it good. Full signal H+ countrywide even in the deepest forest >Alternative is 2Mbps DSL >only way to use 4G and intrawebs on iPhone properly is to make a Wi-Fi hotspot out of your other iPhone >Have to buy 2 iPhones use one
T-t-thanks Apple.
Camden Foster
>iPhone Found your problem.
Nicholas Russell
This is literally what my parents do. Both sharing their connection to each other to be able to download stuff. The battery drain is horrible but they like iShit too much to change. Such is applefag lyfe.
Nathaniel Davis
>claim to be superior European >still get cucked by American policies
What bitterness! And these are the people that liberals want America to emulate? No thank you.
Btw I have an unlimited plan for both my house and phone. So once again your continent comes second place.
Levi Smith
I gave you guys a chance by buying an American phone but it seems you can't make a decent one. So I'll just buy a superior Korean one instead. And I'll be enjoying 1gig fiber when I move back to town from my summer cottage. Just wanted to enjoy our superior 4G during this time but it seems your phones can't even handle that. Did you know the US can't even make it in to the top 10 of fastest internet countries? It's dominated by Europe.
Chase Williams
read this in the avgn's voice
Nolan Ramirez
>I've certainly heard of enormous battery improvements using Safari because it can use some API only available to Apple-signed apps which lets it schedule its CPU wakeups better. That ability is available to ALL apps, signed or otherwise. Google doesn't use it because it would make rendering appear to not be quite as snappy, and giving their users an impression of speed is more important to them than efficiency.
Daniel Williams
Yeah I'm sure those refugees and you sure do enjoy being able to download cuck porn at a faster rate.
Ryan Edwards
you're a special kind of stupid aren't you? I can literally drag and drop from photo into the quick reply and if i drag and drop to a usb it will also make a copy of it. Don't blame others when you're the stupid one.
I cant adapt to new tech / design so it's shit. old man like you don't deserve new tech. just stay with your shitty 1998 windows 95 you moron
