What's the best current mp3 player for the money?
iPod/Apple products need not apply
Jesus christ dude, just use your phone. I have a sansa clip collecting dust in a shoe box because of my bluetooth headphones I use at gym now. MP3 players are obsolete trash since like 2008.
The Apple players really aren't bad.
>What's the best current mp3 player for the money?
For what amount of money? Fiio X1, Cowon Plenue D, Plenue S, these represent some sort of value at various price points and features.
The best dedicated portable music player is the iPod classic 160 no point even arguing that it's not.
You don't really that the only other ones are the clip or the shuffle which is still best for no frills shit.
Other than that.... Use a phone man.
In the late 1990s it became feasible to make portable, solid-state digital audio players. Most support the patented MP3 codec, but not all. Some support the patent-free audio codecs Ogg Vorbis and FLAC, and may not even support MP3-encoded files at all, precisely to avoid these patents. To call such players “MP3 players” is not only confusing, it also privileges the MP3 that we ought to reject. We suggest the terms “digital audio player,” or simply “audio player” if context permits.

Why ask what the best player is if you're going to exclude it from the thread?
iPod Classic with SSD upgrade is the masterrace
Fuck off. You're free to use whatever piece of shit you want but don't go whining when other people want something better.
So upgrade it to solid state.
I can recommend the x1.
All in all this would cost 400€ where I live. Fcking hipsters lick the hands who slap them. Even broken iPods go over the table for >100€.
...
It didn't even total $80 for me, I love it.
Anyone have those little stick Sony Walkmans? I'm thinking of buying one due to its portability
PMPs are dying because normies just use the phone they're glued to 24/7 already. Thank Jobs for that.
>millennial shits who grew up without thinking are now flooding every thread with "durrrr use your smartphone, it does EVERYTHING"
Oh no! Does that mean landlines, point-and-shoot cameras and handheld GPS devices are going the way of the dodo too? Fuck modern days, everything was better back then!
All of those have legit uses though.
I don't know what the best music player is but I know what features I am looking for in it.
>lightweight, 100 gr max
>extremely long battery life
>doesn't mangle my music
>I can attach it to my clothing either naturally or if it's a secondhand cheap piece of junk by hotgluing some kind of fastening clip onto it.
>god tier: it has expandable memory through sd cards.
The last reason is basically because the only use I have for a music player is for sports. My workout shorts sometimes don't have pockets (I go for cheap shit), and even when they do have pockets it's awkward to have a dangling cable between your ear and your left pocket.
I'm currently using one of those clip-on players from apple. 1st or 2nd gen I think.
Point and shoot cameras for festivities etc.
Handheld GPS devices for cars since you aren't allowed to use your phone and navigation kills battery.
Landlines for longer talks.

I literally have 3 of these all broken
What do?
sorry for bad picture, but all of them are 120+gb
anyway to fix them?
Of course, just replace whatever's broken
That's the problem, i don't know whats broken.
I don't know if i want to try to fix them myself, or take it to a store.
Well what do they do? Do they work at all?
>I don't know if i want to try to fix them myself, or take it to a store
The hardest part is opening them, and even that's not too difficult
Don't work.
Like they're just paperweights right now? Nothing on the screen or anything on any of them?
AK 380
Best availible for money.
FiiO M3, definetly, sounds great, ultra portable.
whathifi.com
Basically
It's a bit of a pricey turd instead of best. The AK320 retains all the necessary features anyway.

*something worse
I don't know what you'd consider extremely long battery life, but the sansa clip (with rockbox) satisfies the rest of those at least
I don't use my Sansa Clip+ as an MP3 player anymore but I got a lot of use out of it during my most recent year of college when I wanted to record lectures for later listening. The microphone is very useful and the quality is pretty decent.
*sansa clip plus
*better
>sansa clip
>better
I never said anything about the Clip even being remotely good, you dumbass piece of shit.
What does g think of the clip jam?
No Rockbox
>uses mp3 player that is the same size as a phone
I've got an older one similar to and it's held up pretty well over the years. Decent quality and it was fairly cheap. The software has a few quirks to it but it's still a pretty good player.
Is opening up the Clip Zip possible without fucking breaking it? I ended up fucking up all the plastic trying to get one side to pop off and it won't even power on anymore. Guess I'm gonna have to just get a clip+.
just use Spotify ffs.
just eat shit and die ffs
>shit quality
>shit selection
>streaming
top cuck
This
Use your fucking phone
Fuck off
How much power does the X1 output have? At what impedance do you need a portable amp as well?
Send them to Louis Rossman
>At what impedance do you need a portable amp as well?
That's not how it works.
>shit quality
It has ultra qualit options to download
>shit selection
Sorry it doesnt have your cancerous kpops
>streaming
you can download all
My old man just got one for like 350 CDN, 64 GB off the bat, plus it has SD, the sound quality is actually really good. He had an earlier model before and it lasted him like three years of constant use in a carpentry/construction job. It only broke when it wouldn't charge anymore
You should just use for fucking phone. Unless you have an Ipod clone audiophile autism player, the dacs on your phone and mp3 player are pratically the same!
Sell them. I will even buy them off your hands since you are too lazy to repair them.
You should just eat a dick.
Rockbox is overrated.
Not in the slightest.
I think he means what headphone impedance would you need an amp
Take your pills assburger boi.
Yes and that is now how it works. Impedance is not something of interest here, voltage sensitivity of the headphones is.
And to add, the answer to that question is also just as dependent on the device you are using now as on the headphones themselves. Not all devices have equal headphone amplifiers built in.
I'm pill and mental illness free, faggot
Undiagnosed huh? Your parents must be good at parenting I see.
xDDD
But really, I've been tested. I simply have no mental illnesses.
Anyway, eat a dick.
Best current mp3 player is for fucking smartphone you damn autist
He defends music renting.
I r8 this b8 8/8 m8.
But I am a female user. That insult holds no weight.
Fuck off you piece of shit
Are you implying I can't tell a female to eat a dick? Oh I definitely can.
>implying you don't have a penis
Actually I'm a big fan of the underwater version of the iPod shuffle. Does exactly what is advertised and does it very well.
Want me to post proofs user?
This.
>Not using an Onkyo DP-X1
What are you, poor?
I really don't give a shit, either way you can go eat a dick.
Fuck off to This is a dedicated PMP thread.
Why are phone fags so insufferable?
Because they are normies and don't really belong here.
I've heard plenty about its bugs. I'm not keen on linear phase FIR for EQ either.
The electrical output appears decent enough and battery life seems passable, from limited examination into the device.
>touchscreen Android PMP
Absolutely fucking disgusting.
Fiio or iBasso?
>I DON'T RUN
Tfw your phone has an ESS Sabre ES9018 DAC, same DAC in the Fiio X7.
Thanks LG.
LG (V5 if I remember correctly) has a good DAC. S3 too (but shitty in every other way). Sansa Clip is a good option if you don't want to change your prone.
>mfw is still use a psp go for this
Is there an online guide to do this, for noobs? I would love to do this. But, would need a solid guide to help me.
s/good//g
You literally just crack the iPod open, put the SSD in the adapter, and swap the HDD for the SSD. It takes five minutes.
I used to use an mp3 player, but I realised how autistic I looked.
Just buy a 64 gb micro sd card and you're set, just use your phone.
Fuck off
Don't know if I should post this on the mp3 thread or the headphones one so I'll post in both.
Can someone recommend me a decent budget headphone with built in sd reader. I don't like to take my smartphone to the gym with me and want to listen to some music.
mp3 players are pretty autistic.
Actually though, my tech illitreate dad has 2 iPod nanos and he asked me what to buy because the 4 GB combined storage they have wasn't enough. I had him order a SanDisk Clip Sport with 8 GB onboard and I gave him a 32 GB microSD card for it.
So basically it's for autists and dads (the kind of dad that can't even figure out iTunes)
Please stop talking about DACs. Please.
A lot of phones have solid D/A performance, at least Redbook level. That isn't very hard. It doesn't do much to distinguish audio quality, and doesn't work out to be the most important quality factor.
The amp section is umpteen times more important. This is what fails in most devices.
>hurr durr, if I use redundant technology I'll look smarterer hurrrrr
I don't give a shit what you think you piece of shit, I'll use what I think is best. If you thing what's best is a smartphone, you're in the wrong fucking thread. It's as simple as that.
Jump off a bridge, you cancerous shitstain.
>I do no physical activity outdoors
Maybe instead of trying to reinforce your moral superiority by using dead tech, you should try making some friends, joining a club, something.
Maybe then you wont tell someone to end their life for suggesting a more convenient method of listening to mp3 files.
Witnessed
Also, I understand where this guy's coming from. How can he feel superior to people if he just uses a phone like 99% of people?
no rockbox so pointless to buy it
it is not, it is by far the best software for mp3 players - it's embarrassing that big corporations can't match the functionality
