In case you're serious: you should align all your monitors so that your eyes are about two thirds the way up the screen (vertical or horizontal). That way your eyes can see everything with little to no neck leaning. Monitors in the common size ranges (up to 27) are not so big that they can't be viewed vertically without craning.

I have 3 monitors: 2 in landscape, the 3rd in portrait. I usually have pdfs or docs open when I'm coding so its really useful to have a large monitor dedicated to that.

The old top edge of the screen thing didn't apply to large modern monitors, but in the top this usually keeps the neck happy.
Distance should be as far away as possible, though beyond arms reach is a good heuristic foot relaxing eyes distance.
