Honestly I think it could be cheaper if anything. Polaris 10 is VR ready at $199 right now. In a year that's going to be even cheaper. Then consider Microsoft is buying bulk. There's not much more to add to costs.

I got a new TV two weeks ago after my old one died. It is a nice Samsung 55" 4K TV and honestly 1080p vs 2160p isn't a huge deal. What is better is HDR. I got Life of Pi with it in HDR and it is fucking stunning. So yeah HDR is the more important thing IMHO. Having said that I don't know of any non-4K HDR content so I guess if you want HDR you can't be too picky when it comes to video.

I expect games in HDR will look fucking gorgeous. I would love to play the latest Doom in HDR with all the dark and vivid colours

The only reason anyone should have a Blu Ray reader is so they can rip Blu Ray discs and upload the contents. They're the real heroes.

There haven't been any device capable of reading optical media in my house since 2010. And there won't be. Bulky, small capacity, fragile, slow. I would say legacy media but there's no legacy blu ray media, only cd and dvd.
