If you aint overclocking ditch the fan

Solid build minus the seagate drive. Go with a WD blue or HGST.

Disregard him. $30 for great temps and silence is worth it.

Why 2133 ram and not anything higher?

Why not go with 6600k. Unlocked ftw, bro.

remember: never spend more than $1000 on a computer if it's not making you money and twitch streaming doesn't count

Stock fan will do that no problem

how's this, obviously missing gpu
pc building newfag so help

Not bad. If you aren't going to be overclocking you don't REALLY need a z170 board, so you could save some money there. If you do plan to overclock, grab a k-edition processor.

This

Who /1070/ here?

Here

No wait, it's still overpriced as fuck
Ask me in a few weeks again

Most boards I see are either z170 or micro/mini ATX though, what do

...

...

Ahhh, I see. The memory you have generally goes in a higher end board. That would be why you find mostly z170 boards. Not a bad thing by any means. If you wanted to in the future you could always overclock. (if you got a k processor then)

Other than that, seems like a fine build to me.

What the hell do i do ?
R9 390 230€ + warhammer total war
Rx 480 270€
GTX 980 310€

the 390 seems like a steal but in afraid driver updates will make the 480 destroy it

If you are debating a 980 then why not get a 1070? Or 1060...

well because the 1070 is twice as much as the 390 for a mere 40% more performance
and the 1060... well dont know actually

the 1060 is fucking great and cheap

I want to build a home server that runs FreeNAS on ESXi among other VMs. I'm planning on getting the Celeron G3900, but I can't decide if I want to get a H110 (no ECC) or a C236 (ECC) mobo.

All C236 mobos are expensive as fuck.

Any suggestions?

should I upgrade my a8 with 2400 ram and a 88x mobo and xfire it with a 250? I've seen decent results with the cpu in 65w mode, both i-gpu and d-gpu @1000mhz with 2400 ram. but fear it won't game at all if crossfire isn't supported.

Or just sell, save a little and build something like

pcpartpicker.com/list/pKGzNN

king of poorfags, that's why I'm posting on an a8 now. I could drop the price a little more going with a 345 and r7 370 but only about $40 less and I think the performance of an oc 880 and 950 will be worth it if I go that route.

Would you play on it?
144hz 1080p

Don't buy the 970

the 390 is best deal

I can't believe there are idiots who still want to buy 970s

sheeesh..1060, better?

Guess what I'll be using this build for.

Also rate for dexterity

Yeah

>AMD for a NAS

What OS?

why are 2 of the disks different?

all that storage

but is there a reason you dont use a intel j1900 board ? they perform a tad better then your athlon and are already passively cooled needless to say they consume a shitload less power

No, he has 3 different disks.

Need a perfect 15tb, also testing different brands
Debian minimal stable

New at this, going to change out

You don't need 8 GB of RAM for a simple NAS setup.

I'm not certain but I think that J1900 boards can't support 6 S-ATA ports.

You'll have to get an extra card.

Rate my build.

Is a more expensive mobo worth it? Asus formula and deluxe are awesome, but not sure if worth it.
On one hand getting a $300 board for a $200 CPU is stupid.
On the other hand I will need a wlan card, a bluetooth adapter and an RGB controller at some point, and that's another $70.

>I will need a wlan card, a bluetooth adapter and an RGB controller
Never needed it myself, except for the WLAN. But having a WLAN dongle is always handy.

Wouldn't get a Hitachi drive, but that's just me.

Yep, seems to be most mobos that support 6 sata ports are AMD only
Is 4GiB better?

Yeah I'd go for 4GB and if you need more you can always toss another 4 in.

The PSU is TFX formfactor, don't know if it fits the case you want.

I'd really get a Celeron instead of the AMD CPUs. You went from a shit one to an equally shitty one. You'll just have to find a S-ATA PCI card. You'll save money on the long run.

This is what I have. I run Linux and I use my computer for (order does not matter):
- Shitposting
- Porn
- IRC
- Programming (native and web)
- OpenTTD, DCSS, RetroArch, shitty flash games

I want newer CPU/MOBO/RAM. I can squeeze USD 300 out of my pocket at most, but I actually would like something around 250 tops.

Any suggestions?

Buy an SSD first. See if you find your system fast enough then.

What's a good mechanical keyboard these days?
The wikis guides seem a bit out of date.

Just bought a MSI z97 krait edition motherboard to upgrade my current rig, then I'm gonna buy some new ddr3 2400mhz RAM because I can get a higher frequency now with the new board.

It certainly would but I'm actually getting bottlenecked by lack of CPU and GPU power. I have no intent to buy a dedicated GPU at this point though.

At this point I'm starting to get slowdowns because of the shitty Intel G31 GPU. Some programs and webpages use fancy stuff that makes my GPU driver fallback to CPU rendering.

PS1 emulation with my emulator of choice (mednafen) isn't smooth because I lack CPU power. I'm stuck with low end plugins for N64 emulation because otherwise sometimes I can't play at all (see pic, it's considered one of the lightest games to emulate). Can't use any shaders at all while even an rPI 2 can.

Big OpenTTD maps (I play networked) get really laggy here.

stupid

find me a mobo with OC abilities and tons of features for less than 120

>OC capabilities
marginal performance increase at the cost of ic lifespan and extra electricity
>not using coreboot
but yeah i guess you get to use your mouse to click on big colorful buttons

Currently have a gtx 770. Would I be foolish to upgrade sometime next year if the card hasn't died yet? Would there even be a market to sell the card to anyone?

You waited for two generation for an upgrade, might as well wait until the pricing smoothed out on this generation. I would just keep whats working, you never know when you can use a spare part.

was thinking about picking up the rx 470 on the 4th for 150 bucks.

Been using my 460 GTX, any reason why I should upgrade or continue to use this card? Is the difference between tech now and from when I had this card maybe a 20-30% increase?

this is prob the best price/perf apu. iGPU is essentially a r7 250 and in 65w mode it runs 3.3-3.8ghz. mobo that can boost gpu in bios and it can clock to 1000+mhz on a stock cooler with ddr3 2400. You can crossfire it with a r7 250 for a decent boost

pcpartpicker.com/list/8tYK4C

But I want a 2011-v3 cpu

You can pick up a used Q9550 for around $30 shipped on ebay, and find yourself a cheap SFF video card for around $30-50 and be set, honestly. More ram couldn't hurt. You'd be way in under budget for that.

Pic related is my PC, which I recently did something similar to. It can even play most modern games, and the upgrades I got to it (Video card $50 on CL, proc $32 on ebay) cost me next to nothing to keep my old stalwart working until I can finally buy an i5/i7 system down the line.

That's just my advice. You don't do anything too intense, so why spend more than you have to? A Q9550 isn't much worse than most modern midrange processors.

>Z170
>Non K CPU
>2133DDR4

Switch that board to a B or H170.

Or get a 6600K and at least 3600DDR4 and a 1070

What do you guys think about this? A friend of a friend just pm'd and said he had $1.2k and needed a pc at that price. The exact version of the 1070 isn't settled on.

You forgot a sound card.

3600 ddr4 is already at 1.35v, which is horseshit
[email protected] at 14-15cl is the best

user who's buying a t3600 workstation for cheap here again. I want to ditch the gpu and get a new one but I don't fucking know how the card is powered it doesn't have a 6or8 pin connector. How could I power some consumer card with this do I need to get a new psu? Dunno which would fit in there...

What? Lower power gpus can draw sufficient power from the pcie slot and dont need external connectors

a c2q is miles worse than any recent i5/i7

...

I work on one, can confirm

what?

>310 Euro mb
Senpai step up youre game

ultra hobo edition

> Z170
> With a non-K cpu

> 1060

> 620 Watt
> Bronze
> Chassis more expensive than PSU

Top fucking kek retard.

>spends 310 euros on mb
>doesn't have 50 euros to get a non-potato smartphone for a camera

>Gets motherboard made for custom loop.
>Gets AIO

>youre

Kys faggot

NIE mindfactory. das sind die allerletzten abzocker.
haben mir schrott geschickt und dann nicht umgetauscht.

NIE WIEDER mindfactory

What is this magical thing where, do I connect it and does it exist for 8pins?
Looks like I went full retard and forgot that pcie graphic cards exist...

Been using my 460 GTX, any reason why I should upgrade or continue to use this card? Is the difference between tech now and from when I had this card maybe a 20-30% increase?

Only about 800% increase in peroformance per watt.

Is going Skylake + DDR4 worth it for a server build or should I get older technology and DDR3 equipment?

gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-GTX-1060-vs-Nvidia-GTX-460/3639vs2167

~300%

Go with a Xeon E5 v4.

It's for a home server and I was thinking about something like a Celeron.

I'd say that if you can add maybe 15 more dollars to that, then get a phanteks ph tc14pe instead of the noctua. not sure how well skylake holds up on temps, but 15 dollars more for a two tower cooler wouldn't be too much of a stretch

Hi guys, i plan to change my mobo + cpu combo this month while keeping my old gpu, but i can't find any gpu without integrated graphics (except for those extremely expensive i7). What do?

>any gpu
CPU, roight?

You should just ignore the integrated graphics.

Gpu is an old HD5750, i don't care about games and i don't have video editing needs.
So should i just ditch with i5 and don't even consider the xeon e3 1220?

Here's what I'm getting.

I'd never get a Xeon for a regular desktop. The old ones use way too much power and the new ones are too expensive for a desktop.

I'd get 2x16 but that's just me.

is an x99 system really needed ? You could save a lot of money by just getting some z170 based system instead

meh I disagree.
Im on this computer for 30+ hours a week, this is where i play games and consume all my media, so why be a stingy fuck about it ?

It's kinda needed because I have to use AutoCAD and such programs for school, but I'm also doing this just for the sake of rebuilding my system for fun.

It won't run quad channel if I get just two sticks, right?

there is absolutely no fucking reason to get a high end mobo
its a fucking meme

I agree with you, but mobo makers keep shit that costs pennies off of cheap mobos and instead put it on mobos that cost $170+

Oh you want an M.2 connector ? well fuck you
on board video ? fuck you, you get DVI and VGA.
and so on..

anyways, keeping in line with this thread here is my recent build.

pcpartpicker.com/list/sPxmgL
The fans on the h110i are load as fuck in anything by quiet mode.
The pump is fine, just makes a humming noise.

Got it, thanks for the advice

My computer is down at the moment, might be the mobo.

Might make the jump to 1151, what do you think?

Current system is
i5 750 @ 2.7ghz
8gb ddr3 @ don't remember
Mobo gigabyte p55m ud2 - sata II - usb II

I've seen that you use Autocad and such, maybe it's useful then. But for gaming it's almost useless.

>K CPU
>B170 MOBO

B150 I mean.
