XFCE best DE, period

Give me one reason to not use XFCE.

protip: you won't be able to

no, fuck off

That looks gayer than i remember...

Minimalism is bullshit, ricing is bullshit.

The only thing nice about the screenshot are the icons, which can be used with any other DE too.

Fuck off. Install KDE Neon and get with the times.

in all those years they did not bother to fix tearing...

I have no respect for them
and GTK3 switch will fuck them up heavily

>xfeces

Looks like Unity to me

Turn off XFCE's compositor

put compton in your .xinitrc

C O M P T O N
O
M
P
T
O
N

yeah, yeah, and put some lines in to ~/.comfog/compton.conf

but I should not be doing that
the DE after the years and years it were around should do that!

Why is it so hard to understand?

It's 5 minutes max you lazy fuck.

OP here, this is my personal setup.

>what is compton

kys

I use Windows 10

Give it back, Anton

Looks pretty much like my KDE Neon install except for the icon theme, and at the cost of just a little mor RAM I get much more functionality and integration.

XFCE, more like XFECES, that flat design is making blind children cry, and the shortsighted elderly puke out of sheer revulsion.

OP again, i'm retarded.

How about taking a screenshot right now, instead of posting that shit.
I also highly suspect you to be an Aussie shitposter.

compton is shit and i say it as a person who wrote people how to configure it properly fuckton of times in flt threads. There is something about compiz vsync that compton cannot deliver, but that may be nvidias shitty drivers.

No HIDPI support
If MATE and Cinnamon can do it properly, so can XFCE. Oh wait, it can't. It never will.

>and GTK3 switch will fuck them up heavily
How will it fuck them up?

no gtk3 support by default

So whats the alternative then?

>Give me one reason to not use XFCE.
>protip: you won't be able to

Here is one: Scaling is broken for high DPI screens.

How does your 7970 run OP? Is it still a good card after these years? Is it still stronk?

What support by default?

It's still a strong card.

GTK3 will fix that.

Looks great Antwon :)

well saying that something is shit doesn't immediately imply that there is an alternative, but you can set up compiz with xfce from what i remember. But it defeats the whole purpose of "low cpu/ram usage" since it uses like 150~200MB of RAM.
Also requires alot of tinkering to work properly with xfce, but produces nice smooth vsync, no lags when moving windows over a playing movie or animated applications for example. Again that lag may come from nvidia drivers for me.

XFCE is a great Desktop Environment, yes yes
HOWEVER

Does gaming in wine/PoL have any significant effect on performance?

not OP but i can tell you it varies from game to game. Some games just wont run good with wine no matter what ,a really small part of others run better than natively.

I only play osu!, provided it runs well I might go full Linux. I can't wait for someone to make a native Linux port

there is an unofficial native client, you may want to check it out, its called opsu!

you can use all the xfce goodies with a WM instead and save RAM, CPU and shame for using a DE in 2016

archlinux.org/groups/x86_64/xfce4-goodies/

Xfce has a WM already, it's called Xfwm4.

>uses all the elements which make up a desktop environment
>insists that he's not using a desktop environment and makes fun of others for using a desktop environment

Most retarded post I read this week.

>linux
>any time soon

Didn't know that existed, thanks user

>windows
>post XP
seriously now, every security feature, directx, and CVE patches they added in future versions could be added to XP and rest of features are basically bloat.

That looks like a harlequin's Skittle-induced aneurysm.

agree
it's better than gnome and unity

>uses all the elements
learn to read

I only use lxappereance t.bh, I just give a reason to not use lxde DE

>Most retarded post I read this week.
that's understandable considering you're reading skills

tips:
1.read quoted post
2.read post
3.see how they relate
4.get butthurt with a valid reason or just consider not what the post says as option

what did you mean by this?

Doesn't map Fn key shortcuts on my laptop so I don't use it.

MATE and Cinnamon do it perfectly.

well xfce isn't very minimal

Yes I like xfce4 as well OP. But these days I almost sort of like cinnamon since not running a toaster. Both are great. I wish xfce4 had more random updates

Shit fonts

Xfce is almost dead project. look at their plan of work

KDE master race on Manjaro

>KDE
>Manjaro
just one meme after another.

Looks like shit, to be honest.. Win7 is better.

>Xfce has a WM already, it's called Xfwm4.

Yes. Yes it does in fact. Xfwm4 is not Fluxbox however. I originally intended to try Fluxbox out as a replacement WM for Xfwm4. I ended up preferring it to Xfce altogether. Not out of the box of course. Very few things are as ugly and barely functional as a fresh installation of Fluxbox, but that's the entire point. It's completely barebones, and you make what you want out of it. Which is easy because every aspect of it can be customized by editing simple text files.

...

because you could be using awesome wm ᶘ ͡°ᴥ͡°ᶅ

Sauce on semen demon?

Compiz would be a good choice

I expected more out of you, New Zealand

I don't know what you're talking about, user. It just werks.

Screen tearing

Tearing

this

backend=glx - bad framerate
backend=xrender - weird greyish boxes etc
i really tried all vsync etc options, also all vsync settings in nvidia drivers. Best results were achieved with flipping disabled and glx backend and an opengl vsync, but it resulted in really really heavy cpu usage. so my guess nvidia is fucked up or compiz implements something differently than nvidia intended - because i have no problems on intel cards.

Just use KDE.

I used XFCE with Debian. It was really good honestly, and the RAM usage was really low.
But that tearing was unbearable

> Give me one reason to not use XFCE.

i3

>Giving up good bar and drop down menu
I'd love i3 if it had Awesome's right click, using dmenu is tedious.

>tfw 1440p X1 Carbon
>tfw shitty scaling on every DE in existence

I fucking love XFCE, but I can't standing using Linux on my Carbon due to shitty HiDPI support.

Faster to use the keyboard than to use the mouse.
I really like these minimal distros. KDE, gnome and unity are a waste of time.
XFCE and i3 or bust.

>create new folder/rename file
>instead of doing it inline, dialog pops up asking for name
>2016

Xfce + compiz = pure bliss

I have a Dell XPS 15 and Linux Mint; the HiDPI support is really good.

Bruv dis nigga wants to be gnome so bad. What's the matter, your shitpad can't handle it?

Mate and xfce are the only two good DEs today, which is quite sad.

Kde is absolute shit. Apart from muh "eyecandy", I can see no reason why any sane person would use it daily.

>GTK
>not QT

Here is your reason.

>all these people saying to use kde

i installed kubuntu and only one of my monitors will show up even though both are recognized in display settings

also after i login all four of my cpu cores go to 100% usage

XFCE is pretty good, but it's also not very pretty (even with all the theming and icons). Honestly I think it looks better than KDE 5 out of the box.

I'm more of a GNOME guy myself, because of dat polish

Fucking god awful childish looking shit.

>he doesn't use platinum for dat nostalgia
sorry your life is so empty
