Android runs on very diverse hardware that it can't just fully optimize to one set of hardware. iOS does that which is why it's faster in most cases but iPhone can't beat high-end Android phones in heavy processing because that's where performance really shines.

Got an iPhone SE last week. Can't get over how fast and smooth it is: there's basically no way you could improve on the performance, since it does everything instantly, every animation is butter smooth, and it keeps all my apps in memory. Can't fathom what they'll do with more power in the iPhone 7.
