irssi is very nice if you have the time to figure out how to splitscreen and preserve all the settings on a reboot.
Otherwise just go for HexChat.

This post is objectively correct.

Comparing Directory Opus to explorer is silly. XnView is decent if you don't have the money for DO. FastStone is a bit too bloated. bblean is too hacky.

Comparing Irfanview to Windows Photo Viewer is silly. Honeyview is bloated and no where near as feature rich as IV. impression eyes is bare bones. Irfanview offers tons of advanced operations, filters for quickly editing images AND extremely lightweight on top of all that. No contest here.

I personally don't use HexChat much(I have a VPS that I SSH into using irssi) However if I didn't have my VPS I'd definitely use hex over mirc.
