ok Sup Forums, I need your help. I've never owned a desktop so I'm in the process of building one. After a ton of research, I decided on the 1060 since it seems to be the obvious choice over the 480 (better performance, lower power consumption, lower heat output, etc.). In my time researching monitors, I've yet to see a nice 1080p 144hz one with gsync.
This seems to be one of the best 144hz monitors, but without gsync.
My question for you is this - should I forgo the 1060 and get a 480 instead so I can couple it with this monitor, even though the 480 is worse? If I stick with the 1060, I don't think I'll find as nice of a gsync monitor in a similar price range
I'd really like to have some sort of syncing technology, even to the point where I'm willing to switch to the 480 just to use this monitor. I'd be willing to spend more on a gsync one if it's as good as the freesync one

what's the point of 144hz monitor if you can't play any games at 144fps with a 1060
Christian Cook
you can easily hit 60+ on 99% of games, so why limit yourself with a 60hz monitor?
Lucas Gray
because I don't need a 144hz monitor if I can't even see past 90 frames on most games with a 1060
Nathaniel Gomez
Just get a fucking normal 1080p 60Hz monitor. These gimmicky monitors that do more than that are just greedyfuck companies trying to take your money and you won't see any significant difference.

What does "nice" mean to you? The look of the monitor itself? The panel quality?
Mason Flores
panel quality, I don't care if it's a red striped le gamer tier aesthetic with 4 inch bezels, I just want the nicest possible screen possible
Jonathan Richardson
how are you seeing 90 if you're using a 60hz monitor?
Grayson Perez
a frame counter you dipshit
David Foster
Panel quality in terms of what? Because I see you have a TN panel there in your link.
Adrian Baker
a frame counter is just going to display fps, your refresh rate still limits how many of those frames are actually seen. congrats on being retarded
Carter Martin
have fun seeing less than 144 fps on your Jew monitor fucking faglord
Gavin Taylor
I would definitely prefer a 1080p 144hz ips panel but they just don't exist. I am not a fan of TN but there aren't any other options unless you move up to 1440p
you seem to not really understand anything about the actual technology. perhaps you should go back to Sup Forums?

Unless you use SLI or crossfire, or buy a much better card than the 1060, there's really no point in getting a monitor with sync tech yet.
Wait till they get cheaper, wait till your GPU will be able to push 90+ on the most demanding game you currently own.
You can get a monitor with g/free sync now, sure, but it'll be cheaper down the line when your GPU will actually hit the framerates that it benefits most at
Connor Moore
the 1060 hits almost 100 fps on ultra in bf4. I would get the 1070 but gsync is so much more expensive, especially after changing to the 1070
>only two below $500 Is there something wrong with your eyes? The first twenty or so are all below $500. Not all of them are available but that's not the point. If it isn't available on newegg you can pick a specific model and see if its available on Amazon, or tiger direct, or . . .
Colton Peterson
you didn't sort by gsync, see my link

user, freesync != gsync®™
Freesync works by estimating when the following frame will be done and sending that info with the current frame. If the estimate was off (which of course will happen sooner or later) you will not get the 100% buttery smoothness.
Ah. Still you need to check prices at other options for the other two. For example, you can get Acer on Amazon for less than $500.

I know you're memeing, but freesync is the standard and nvidia will eventually have to adopt it. wouldn't that make a freesync monitor a better investment?
They're great for playing games at various resolutions. Its 2016 and CRT is still the only display technology that does not have a fixed native resolution.
