Get sapphire rx480 because its cheap and good in theory

>get sapphire rx480 because its cheap and good in theory
>plug it in, check drivers, all is good, start video game
>runs barely at 35fps in ultra at 1440p, 86°C climbing slowly until 88°C
>blue screen
>automatic restart
>now the gpu is idling at 81°C

well that was disappointing. I'm debating wether to just refund it and keep running my game in low or shell out twice the price and get a 1070

>ATI
Is AMD too fucking lazy to update the firmware "vendor" string?

I would do that yes (1070) as quickly as possible.
Oh and inb4 you get call Nvidia shill

is this the new speccy thread?

it can be

havn't had nvidia since the 8800gtx and i would rather keep going amd since it's cheaper but if the 480 is the best they have i don't have much of a choice right now.

i'm just not sure the 1070 is worth 500 euros

Yes.

>>plug it in, check drivers, all is good, start video game

I guess uninstalling the old drivers first and installing the latest amd ones are too much for your brain to understand.

except that's not how it works nowadays asshole, you got this amd crimson shit that's the same for all gpus they make. I did not find any actual drivers for it.

>he fell for the RX480 meme

All the stuff I find on google about gpu stuck on 100% usage is the obvious miner virus, but I find it hard to believe a virus laid dormant in my pc for several weeks and just got enabled after the first ever bsod I get. That's one weird ass coincidence. I guess I'll put it my old gpu and see if it still does it.

Buy once cry once retard

Learn what you are talking about before you spew shit from your mouth. You don't setup a video card driver just for it to look pretty, configs and registry are adjusted to the current card on install.

Actually, a few weeks ago I tried my gtx760 in my cousin's 970 pc, to test something out. Driver was the same so we didn't need to reinstall them, right? On testing the card did overheat and shutdown. Turned out the fans would not spin past idle rpm's until we reinstalled the drivers.

You're talking about nvidia you mong, I'm telling you amd has a unique thing for all the cards. As a matter of fact, I did uninstall and reinstall it due to old habits, but it was the exact same software.

>You are an idiot, I don't need to reinstall drivers
>Well I can tell you from experience you need to reinstall them even if it's the same brand
>You are still an idiot I did reinstall them

I should have known better

The amd software is not the drivers. It's just a software that installs and keeps shit to date by itself. I uninstalled and reinstalled that, but it's just the same fucking software, it had probably detected my new gpu and done the driver work for it. What is hard to comprehend about this.

>expecting 1440p ultra on a rx 480

The rx 480 is a 1080p card.
Allso,
>reference coolers
Nice meme

But it's not exactly a very demanding game I'm playing, killing floor 2. It runs fine on p much anything so I expected the ultra setting to follow that trend.

It's no D44M or whatnot.

>running windows
>mining bitcoins for someone else
wew lad, maybe try the card on fresh installation

I got the same issue after a BSOD. Re-install drivers, restart windows and you should be at 0% usage again, you can see that in the Crimson, Global Settings, AMD Wattman.

I'll tell you right away, it happened again to me, a couple times. I don't know what the fuck it is.

>81c
Literally nothing.

That worked thanks.

>buy a 1080p gaming card
>tries running games at ultra at 1440p
Ultra 1440p would be GTX 1070 SLI or GTX 1080.

>runs barely at 35fps in ultra at 1440p

What were you expecting from a mid-range card, you dumb cuck? There are games that a 1080 won't run maxed out at a locked 1440/60.

It's not just RMA it

turn on vsync or limit the framerate
it's probably running at like 500000 fps and overheating the card

Like I said, its a well optimized game Pic related taken right now running at 75-95 fps on ultra. It's not too bad, it just gets bad in some situations.

You should have gone with the GTX1060 dude.

How did Sapphire fucked up that

It seems to go for 89°C as soon as it enters 3d mode, even if you just stay on the game's menu.

GTX 1060 still isn't a 1440p gaming card, so no, he shouldnt have.

>2016
>having an ATI card

you fucking retard
it is a driver issue
I had the same thing from a 270 to a 280x
you need to reinstall

yeah i did that, it's better now

In the interest of future proofing and getting the most of my money, should I get a 980TI or go ahead and spend the extra for a 1080? I'd like to not replace it for at least 2 or 3 years on a 1080p setup.

games are usually optimized for nvidia. thats why they dont work well on other gpus.

This is a cheap gpu thread, so get the cheapest.

3440x1440 runs well on the 1070 @ 60fps

>1440/ultra on a 480

It's a 1080 card. If you wanted 1440/ultra you should have got a better card.

Not at ultra for games such as witcher 3 or similar AAA titles.

nigga the rx480 is a 1080p card. They promised 980 performance and we got barely 970 performance. Have you visited Sup Forums lately?

also
>intel cpu + amd gpu

kys

>getting reference

Why.

The $220 4GB 480 from Sapphire is the only viable option if you really want to save money.

Otherwise the card is basically shit. Vega will be DOA too. Zen will okay-ish, but not "enough" for most people. AMD will stay in the industry, but it won't be competitive in any area.

I bought an MSI RX 470 and so far, it runs as cool as I could hope and I've had 0 stuttering.

>They promised 980 performance

They never did anything of the sort. Even so it performs at 980 levels in dx12 and faster than a 980 in vulkan.

1070 seems like the best choice for you

It's a 1080p card you fucking idiot.

Literally what you get for buying amd garbage. It's cheaper for a reason. Enjoy having to fix everything and making playing games a chore. Been there done that. Switched sides and never again had any issue.

Never had an Issue with an AMD card for 8 years now :^)

Nvidia blue screened more.

That's what you get for buying reference dipshit. But yeah, the 1060 or 470 are the way to go. 480 was a blunder.

Nah, you always ddu if you aren't a retard.

A viral package kicking in causing bcod surprises you?

My RX 480 works just fine, playing FFXIV at 1440p@60FPS. Temps never exceed 76C.

You're clearly doing something wrong OP.

My nigga. Better OC performance gains than the 1060 or 480 as well. Got mine for $168.

The hot memory thing worries me a bit, but I'm paranoid. Still OCed to 7400 or something like that though, with the highest core clocks of any 470.

Never had a single issue from my 2gb 7850 so hope it works out the same. Also, I think OP is fail at drivers.

Yeah, it was the driver, i haven't had bsod since reinstall. However, it still gets stuck at 100% use (89°C) when i close the game. Only a restart gets it back to 0% use and 60°C something.

mine's configured differently though because it goes straight to 89°C and stays there as long as its in 3d mode

Did you use DDU? It's especially important switching teams, but always worth doing to avoid potentially deleterious remnants.

never heard of ddu, i come from 2002 p much.

To add, I've had trouble with software fan curves in the past or, I'd get rid of the no fan idle just to increase lifespan. Seems like any given fan in my case individually drowns it out even gaming, though my setup isn't the best acoustically at idle, as my fans are quiet but I run them off molex.

This thing is incredibly quiet.

Well, give that a shot.

This is a good thing, don't complain.
