why does he have a lab coat on and holding the motherboard like its a fucking pizza?
Stock pictures are taken by people who are clueless.
>not asking why he's holding a fucking screwdriver when he's clearly not even installing a heatsink
>520W
Might want to bump that up to 650W just to be future proof.
>that shitty monitor
23 inches @ 60 hz..?
>future proof
I don't believe in there being a such thing as "future proofing" a computer. It's going to be "outdated" in 2 years anyway when more graphics cards and CPUs/architectures are released, which will more than likely be significantly more efficient.
As for the monitor... Do you have any suggestions?
Just reposting this for some thoughts on this build as i havnt done one in awhile. my budget is a maximum of £620 and this is what ive got so far hows this then for the £620 budget build for playing games at medium+
uk.pcpartpicker.com
any good? will it run most games on atleast medium?
looks like literally ever ~$1k build from the past 8 years
>>that shitty monitor
>23 inches @ 60 hz..?
it's ips, good luck finding a high refresh rate gaymen ips monitor
It is fine for your budget. For optimum gaming, I would drop to an i3, and see if the $$$ saved can get a better GPU.
What card would you recommend? As i mentioned i havnt done a build for so long i havnt kept track of all the releases and prices
Currently running this shit, was going to try and just upgrade the GPU for now. Will a 1060 be bottlenecked by my CPU? I only have PCI-E 2.0 ports on my mobo as well.
I do not know what you can get with the $$$ saved. Maybe a GTX 1060 (6GB, non-castrated edition), or at least the RX480.
You will be fine.
To norms, fooling with the mobo is like hard rocket science to them.
Fuck i just realised i hadnt included the optical drive. So itll have to be an i3 and the 470 just to be able to fit the optical drive into the budget
Optical drive is $20. Or maybe just 10, if you are using Elizabethean Dollars.
Alright, well if i get an i3 6100 and a 780 i should hopefully still be under 620 after adding the optical drive
Rx 480 i mean
Going to be the first time i'm building a PC is everything looking fine?
Definitely go to 16 gigs if you have the money for a 6600K and a 1070.
Everything is fine. Standard build, no issues. The 1070 is a bit pricey though. There should be cards in the ~$420 range.
Whats the best version of the rx 480 for under £240?
Falconbro, are there any issues with replacing a mobo in an already working computer? This Asus Z97-A is shitting on me with power surges on USB ports and being unable to hold time properly even after changing the CMOS battery just a few months ago.
Well which brand anyway
I was thinking of going 16 gigs at first. I was told I didn't really need 16 gigs if I was just playing games, but since it's a pretty cheap upgrade I might as well go with 16 gigs.
I only picked that one because I liked how it looks and it's only $20 more expensive. When I actually start buying everything in a couple weeks i'll look at the prices a little more.
Yes atleast 16gb for future. Your psu should be fine. Future=less more and more efficient.
are they actuaclly serious with those stock images? god damn that's some high level trolling, can't take that shit for real
Use the fucking copypasta or there will be 3 other threads asking where the real general is.
If someone starts a pcbg and doesn't put the effort to at least fucking search "pcbg" in the catalog, that's their problem, not mine. Fuck off mate.
What is there to discuss? We don't need another general
Does anyone make a case better than this for under 150?
(CM Stacker 830)
It has insane cooling, amazing build quality, is almost all metal, has a removable motherboard tray, casters, and tons of other stuff. I love it a lot and my buddy would let me have his old one for 100 flat. Having a hard time beating that with a modern case.
>Might want to bump that up to 650W just to be future proof.
just no
Anyone?
youtube.com
>applying it with a brush
What is the name of the case in pic related?
it's just some ancient IBM shit
go dumpster diving and fish yourself one
Reposting
>how do i monitor my system and find bottlenecks? Namely GPU, CPU and RAM
I dont want to buy on impulse and without reason. I would like to keep track of clear numbers when im playing games and not rely on instinct on what parts might need an upgrade. CPU can be monitored with perfmon, do i just choose 1sec and % processor time or is there more to it? Now how do i monitor RAM and GPU and then put it in correlation? There are RAM monitors in perfmon, but what is important to look at and means what? Afaik you cant see the GPU, so how will i do that and put the numbers in correlation? Also i guess having 100% load during loading screens is rather expected, so do you only look at peculiar peak points and averages beside those?
>RAM specs.
I currently have g skill F3-10600CL9D. 1333mhz 2x4GB. I guess thats pretty bad and maybe little money can increase much. What specifications are important with RAM and how much do these really matter? Is the GB size important beyond 8, maybe 16, what would the increase in performance be? If we are talking gaming use, is speed more important? 1333 is pretty low, what would have more effect, another 2x4GB of my current RAM or a new pair of 2x4GB with maybe like 2400mhz? Will there be a notable difference? I dont have a skylake or DDR4 mainboard but is the difference between these (still talking RAM, not CPU) remotely worth the cost? What about latencies, pretty much all the same? My PC is very cool and silent so heat spreaders are of little importance, is the GB and MHz number the only important thing then or is the more expensive module from the better brand still preferable or do i not have to care as long as these numbers match?
>lastly i5 v i7
i7 has hyperthreading, what else? Is there nothing to care about considering its a gaming build and not used for CAD, Photoshop, rendering and the likes?
$500 dx12 gayming?
>"Team DARK"
Literally never heard of it. I'd advise going with a more reputable brand.
>Seagate
Apparently their failure rate is high, might want ot go with WD or HGST/Hitachi
>how do i monitor my system and find bottlenecks? Namely GPU, CPU and RAM
Using monitoring software while running your game. There are programs that can display an in-game overlay showing all the information you want. I like MSI Afterburner for this purpose.
GPU load bottlenecks are "normal" and what you generally want to see in a game. It's easy to determine: you've got 100% (or very close) GPU load.
CPU bottlenecks aren't necessarily easy to see. Obviously, if your CPU is close to 100% load it's probably holding your GPU back. Still, it's not always that simple. Having a single core at 100% with others at low load can still be a bottleneck. Sometimes you won't even see especially high CPU load, but if you ever get FPS drops that are also accompanied by GPU load drops you can generally assume it's something CPU related.
RAM/VRAM capacity issues are also easy to spot: if the game doesn't outright crash due to insufficient memory, it will probably be performing very poorly and you can see all your memory is full. If that's the case you need more.
RAM bandwidth issues aren't common and aren't easy to spot, you'll probably see some sort of symptoms similar to a CPU bottleneck. Higher speed RAM can often help with min. FPS especially and generally provide more consistent performance.
>Having a single core at 100% with others at low load can still be a bottleneck
It can also just be a game that has shitty optimization.
I love how you retards think you're hot shit for plugging in connectors and screwing in screws.
>It can also just be a game that has shitty optimization.
Sure, but it's irrelevant to the topic at hand.
>talks about how we think we're hot shit
>uses the name field
Please use a tripcode so I can filter you
any skylake matx motherboard with bear minimal that wont share pci lanes from m.2 to sata express, etc..
You can't filter on name field without tripcode?
Wow you really are a bunch of hardware losers that can't use computers beyond video games
also no rgb and shit
Ill look into afterburner later, sounds like the thing im looking for
I know of the multicore dilemma but as you said, its not the problem at hand. I want to know which part i can upgrade to which capacity effectively for the usual cases, not for badly ported pos console or indie games.
GTA V had a general problem think. I always have this as an example in mind. For me it flooded the RAM by not realising the space, this resulted in having to restart the game every few hours. But the simptom was low fps, which could have also been the GPU(it wasnt). If Afterburner watches all 3 hardware components ser this question as obsolete, but which perfmon statistic is relevant when looking at RAM now?
I'm about to pull the trigger on this. Thoughts? My total buy-in here is $879usd but I have $50 worth of rebate stuff to submit. Aftermarket cooler is for silence. It's $10 after dat rebate. I want the best possible 1080p gaming experience for as cheap as possible. I can add an SSD later when money isn't as much of a factor for me.
get the "K" one, pick a z170 with m.2, replace HD with an m.2 one, rx480 instead pick a single stick of 16gb ram. Also replace case with a shoe box
>literally buying a botnet license
also ninja 4 instead of t4
>instead pick a single stick of 16gb ram
Are you fucking retarded?
no, but i guess you are
Total Price = $1214.20
Any final suggestions? I'm about to start ordering.
>another $45 for cpu, another $20 for mobo
>a graphics card that is sold out everywhere
>another $110 for storage
>single channel ram, ever
i'm just going to say "no".
Don't be a retard and mix up stand offs.
I lost a motherboard standoff, and replaced it with a random one.
The random one was slightly longer so I strained my motherboard.
Take attention to thread and RTFM.
>single gtx 1070
>850 watt power supply
fucking why?
Your color scheme is also going to be horribly ugly with a black/blue case, black/red gpu, red ram, white mobo. If you don't care about that though, go ahead. The parts will perform well.
I suggest getting an all black, or black/red mobo, and the black/red nzxt s340 instead.
Is there a /pcbg/ OP or wikia or something?
Any suggestions? I made some slight modifications. Pic related.
Also, fuck, I hope I can afford this.
I'm thinking of using a pair of aio coolers with kraken g10s on my 980s to avoid the 80*c temps under load.
the radiators would likely mount on the front of the case such that the air cooling those radiators will be going into the case.
I know this isn't ideal, but. Already have a 280mm aio rad mounted on top.
Does anyone have a similar set up such that they could let me know what kind of results they see?
As mentioned under load the cards will run around 80* with one between 80 and 82 and the other at about 78. They're stable so I'm not too worried, but I'd like a cooler quieter system overall.
>single gtx 1070
>850 watt power supply
>fucking why?
Power supply is around 327W, will be a little bit higher if I OC (closer to 400W). I originally got a 750W power supply, but this 850W was on sale and would cost nothing extra.
This is gonna be a new fag question I guess, but how long will it be until I want to upgrade you guys think? Like I want at least 60fps on medium settings.
final thoughts, i reconsidered pcpartpicker.com
>but how long will it be until I want to upgrade you guys think?
A 1070 will last you around 3 to 4 years of medium settings.
Forgot to mention I'm trying to get my computer to only use about half the power supply. I know it's not necessary but it would be a nice luxury. Also I can use this power supply for future builds and not have to buy a new one.
I'm still kinda new to PC building so I might give bad advice. But I can tell that you might be able to get cheaper yet still better quality RAM if you want. Get a MSI or ASUS 1070 instead. You don't need a full tower, it will just be an eye sore. Maybe get a 600W power supply with at least a gold rating if you're going to over clock. Get a betetr monitor, something with a 144Hz refresh rate and under 1ms response time. I know Best Buy sells an ASUS one for like $270 that's probably over priced, but still a size size and swivel based (You can probably fins it cheaper some where else).
So you're saying that with this build:
Im only gonna get medium settings for the next 4 years?
>Get a MSI or ASUS 1070 instead
Why?
>Get a betetr monitor, something with a 144Hz refresh rate and under 1ms response time
With IPS? Yeah, I doubt that exists for under $1000.
You're a retard. He's saying you may have to turn down the settings in a few years.
It's honestly nearly impossible to tell. Technology is advancing at such a fast rate, that it's very uncertain what will happen once you start talking in the 5-10 years range. Moore's law, user. Pic related.
By the way, this poster was made in 2011, and in 2015 we've successfully simulated (somewhat, sorta) a mouse brain.

Rate
This is so expensive ffs
>Technology is advancing at such a fast rate, that it's very uncertain how many watts they'll be able to shave off a processor that does the same shit as today.
Don't worry they'll keep on shaving mm off of phone thickness so you don't have to worry about getting to savor the experience of charging every 4 hours.
MSI / ASUS have had better rating have had better ratings from what I've heard. Then again I'm just a guy on the internet, I have of much credit as a homeless guy hanging outside the grocery store.
Also anyone got an good monitor suggestions? What's more important, refresh rate, response time, resolution?
Why have you ever held an entire pizza
Depends on what you need
Since it's obviously gaymen response time>refreshrate>resolution
No pastebins.
What are some of the nicer cheaper ATX boards?
Not for a gayming build
>color matters
Gtfo fag
>Since it's obviously gaymen
What? vidya on Sup Forums? How did you know?
Thanks though user
It's a server. Made for Linux®
I still need to find a suitable OS drive. I don't think I'll need more than 16 or 32 GB.
ooops - heres the pic.
I'm planning on going for Raid-Z, so 6TB total storage.
Get an ECC-supported mobo, and two-channel ECC RAM.
Also you might want a UPS.
>it's another "i'm going to use the 212 as my cooler despite superior options being available at the same price"
why even post. like literally what's the point in posting if your build is just a copy of build above yours.
The motherboard already supports ECC.
Dual channel just means having two sticks of RAM, right?
>why use a cooler with a lot of good reviews when I just want a safe pick
Idk user you tell me
>Dual channel just means having two sticks of RAM, right?
Yep.
I know all of my parts suck, but I can only afford a new video card and maybe better ram.
What should I get?
The 6GB 1060 would be a nice upgrade. $250 if I remember correctly.
Get a second-hand 970.
Lots of nvidiacucks selling theirs to get 1070s now.
Have you done any research into why the Classified is 70 bucks more expensive than the FTW despite the specs being identical? I can't figure it out.
exactly retard. why the fuck are you posting if you're just going post the exact same build as everyone else. it's pointless. you already know it will be completely uninteresting.
>same cooler = exact same build
I think you might be "on the spectrum", user.
Anyone here using a B150 or an H170 Gaming mobo? If so, how is it working for you, and how is the audio quality compared to that of the Z170. Thanks.
>that box art
i know they're targeting gamers..but wow cmon.
looks like a straight up toy
>Gaming mobo
>300 for a mobo
The fuck, nigga?
They all look like toys.
