A Design Defect Is Plaguing Many iPhone 6 and 6 Plus Units

iphonehacks.com/2016/08/iphone-6-touch-disease-issue.html

>Gadget repair firm iFixit has reported about a flaw dubbed "Touch Disease", which it claims is cropping up.

>With it, owners of the phones are experiencing, to start, a gray bar that appears at the very top of their display. And, for many others, the display itself becomes unresponsive to touch, or less responsive overall.

>"In both the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, the Touch IC chips connect to the logic board via an array of itty-bitty solder balls -- "like a plate resting on marbles," Jessa explains.

>Over time, as the phone flexes or twists slightly during normal use, those solder balls crack and start to lose contact with the board.

YOU ARE BENDING IT WRONG

Bend up and take it, boy, because we ain't fixing it.

Oh lord bendgate 2.0

iSHIT BTFO

Apple really needs to get back their "infallibility" sense, they're losing it

It's a design feature!

This is why I upgrade my phone every year.

>iPhone

Now this is some advanced planned obsolescence.

Reality distortion field has mostly dissipated.

>iphones are high quality compared to android
Oh boy, I can't wait for icultists to defend this.

>spend 800$ on a phone
>1 year of warranty
I don't understand why people accept this, that alone should be enough of a signal of what a cheaply designed product it actualy is

Truly revolutionary.

>apple bans ifixit
macrumors.com/2015/09/30/apple-bans-ifixit-developer-account-apple-tv/
>ifixit attacks apple constantly
i don't give a shit though, i hope it's true.

Of course it's true, it's being reported and they pretty much showed it.
There's nothing more trustworthy to shit on a company, than the guys who fix their engineering and design fuckups.
Of all the people, Apple fucked the experts that know more about their products than the engineers who designed them.

It's every fucking year that Apple releases at least one flawed fucked up device.

>It's every fucking year that Apple releases at least one flawed fucked up device.

So everything?

YOU

ARE

HOLDING

WRONG

top-notch engineering.
product starting to fail just days before the announcement of the successor.

that's some 12-dimensional checkers.

Not everything, but a good portion.
The worst is how Apple delays any programs for fixing shit like with the trashcan graphical chipset fuckup, even over a year sometimes.

>APPLE DID IT AGAIN!
Absolutely!
Apple is the only company ever to have production difficulties.

Found the iPajeet.

>only happened to iPhone 6 and 6 plus

What the fuck!? Will my SE shit the bed when they announce the iphone 8? Well, im not upgrading past iOS 10 for all that matters

>The safest bet at this point is if the phone is under warranty to get it replaced by Apple. And, if it is not under warranty any longer, to find a repair shop that will replace the chips inside the device altogether.

Oh what about just not fucking buying iPhones anymore?

But then you wouldn't give money to one of the greatest companies ever :^)

Apple is too mainstream for hipsters, user.

...

Apple can never be too mainstream for us hipster master race.

kek

Explain this... not a applefag so not sure whats this is really about

9to5mac.com/2016/02/15/apple-acknowledges-iphone-bricking-1970-date-bug-says-upcoming-software-update-will-fix/

Fucking epic... wow. Just wow...

Seems kind of fishy... Se should calle it testing Mode. You can test any app forma free for 3 days or so.

I don't really see the problem here though.
- All Apple products come with 2yrs of warranty.
- Most people, including me, have insurance on it for 3-4 years.
- After 3-4 years it's already too slow for the current iOS/apps, so you sell it.

What's the fuss about?
For 4 years I can break it, people can steal it, whatever, and I get a replacement for free. (Yes, I can only get it stolen 3 times a year. Wow.)

Ps.: I am no fanboy, I have a Note, just saying that it's stupid to cry about it.

a old greybeard rule of thumb for buying macs was 'never buy rev a'.

Haven't had this issue but the fingerprint reader on muh 6S was wonky as fuck for a couple of months. Like it was scraping against the screen cover. I've heard and read that many others had this same problem as well. Got better after those couple of months of scraping, as if something 'extra' got off of it. Seems like APL QC is shit.

the problem is that the 6S is the revisioned "S" version. ...

>- All Apple products come with 2yrs of warranty.
no
>- Most people, including me, have insurance on it for 3-4 years.
laff.

So they didn't test the BGA solders for extended twisting forces. Shit happens, especially since it's a mass-produced consumer device. This might even be limited to a batch of devices (wrong soldering paste/temperature gradient).
While this is a real problem to those affected I feel that it's being blown out of propotion.
[note: the last Apple device I've owned was a G5 PowerMac. I habor no love for the company and avoid their products whenever possible.]

Its happening to the 6 models because they did not use metal plating on top plus there was no underfill under the unit. Plus the 6 is just more prone to bending in general. the 5s and 6s models have underfill and metal plating.

I have an iphone 6s plus, doesn't have these issues.

>We have also heard that this bug has caused a big headache for Apple Store employees in the past week, as people intentionally set the date back on demo iPhones and iPads in retail stores to break the products on the benches.

DEVILISH

>While this is a real problem to those affected I feel that it's being blown out of propotion.

It is but mostly because Apple puts out an image of making the most premium perfect quality product out of all their competition.

I mean that's why even apple fans go berserk at minor flaws because they believe they're getting premium high quality products and are putting in the cash for it.

Do the 6S models have underfill or have they just not been out for long enough for the problem to become widespread?
It's taken some time to become an epidemic on the 6.

>So they didn't test the BGA solders for extended twisting forces. Shit happens, especially since it's a mass-produced consumer device. This might even be limited to a batch of devices (wrong soldering paste/temperature gradient).
Every single iPhone 6 (and 6 Plus) doesn't have underfill on the Touch IC.
End of story. It's not a limited run issue, it's not a mistake in manufacture. For some reason they decided to stop underfilling the Touch IC in the iPhone 6 (they had underfilled it in previous generations) and that resulted in it failing at much greater rates.

The 6S does have underfill. The reason this is only now becoming apparent is due to Apple having a pretty solid warranty replacement program but now that most warranties are wearing off people are going to specialist shops to fix the issue.

>So they didn't test the BGA solders for extended twisting forces. Shit happens,
You are absolutely right.
You cannot expect high-quality engineering and stress-testing from a company, which is mainly selling low-end budget-devices. The margins just can't cover that kind of service.

>cheaping out on soldering on a $700 phone
kek

Happened to my gf's. What a pile of shit.

>laff.
> Xperia Z3C
Took it back 4 times, it's in repair now. Flaps come off, water went into camera, blurry cam pics.
> S3
Overheated, dropped calls, battery buffed up. Took it back 3 times.
> Note 2
Started dropping calls, system froze, took it back once.
> Xperia Sola
Screen popped out after a few months of use, was unusable, they refunded my purchase.
> HTC One X
Took it back around... phew, 6 times? Then they gave up and refunded me.

Protip: New phones suck when it comes to quality & durability.

Yes and tell me which lagdroid noupdates malwareappstore phone has better?

If you had to return that many phones it's obviously you.

>Galaxy S3
Using it since 2012
Replaced battery for 5$
Lags but works

>Galaxy S4
Friend has it
Dropped it over 9000 times
Whole screen is shattered
Bezels falling off
Camera is cracked
It still works tho including the touch screen

>mfw I beat the shit out of my chinkwei and absolutely nothing has broken yet

>Note 3

Well user...

Nice strawman, does your butt really hurt that bad?

>What is BGA?

This happened to my wife's son's iPhone. I hope it doesn't happen to mine.

IT JUST WORKS

2 days ago thread, thank you pajeet rakesh for bumping this thread

You seem upset, iPajeet

Wife's son's?
Dumb motherfucker, he is YOUR son!

>iPhone
Found your problem.

Just 2 weeks from the announcement of the new iPhone, what a happy coincidence.

kek

He is a cuck aka stepdad

good thing i have a 6S :^)

>good thing i eat shit from my hands :^)

That's nothing to brag about.

If it's a design flaw it doesn't matter if it's under warranty or not

>another man's genes
>your son
KEK
There's open-mindedness, and then there's retardation.
Picking the one stupid bitch out of over 2 billion on this planet who has another man's baggage is extreme retardation and the bottom-of-the-barrel-level-catch.

Fucking incredible

You must give off a field off some sort to kill that many devices! Or just horrible luck

>iPhones start breaking literally 2 weeks before the new one is announced

DELET

We don't put up with this shit in Australia and I think Europe is the same. Apple interprets Australian Consumer Law to mean at least an additional year of warranty-like service. Systematically it auto-covers Australian purchased iOS and Macs for 2 years, but beyond that you can argue to a manager why you think it should still be covered beyond 2 years and they have the discretion to approve it, especially for Macs if they're less than 3 years.

Ahhh so this is the superior Apple design. Good to know.

Stop wasting your parents hard earned money, you greedy bastard, your parents probably have to skip meals just so you can pay for your little toys.

Well iPhone 7 is coming out.
