My range is $500-$1250.
I want to be able to play games and have a decent speaker with decent storage.

Check the Asus ROG line. They are awesome, I had one but I bought new desktop with GTX 1080 etc. I would say if your max is 1250$, try to find a discount but optimally speaking add more money to that and you'll get those new Pascal laptops.
If you DON'T want Pascal (what are you stupid) get at least 970m. That's my advice.
Also ensure you are using SSD all the way + 16 gigs minimum memory.

This one is safe to get.
Laptops can't play "games" unless you just mean League of Legends and Diablo 3, because they have low system requirements. But if you want to play brand new AAA titles you're shit out of luck.
ROG 3D Vapour Chamber enables us to have overclocking and near desktop GPU performance.
I understand your Thinkpad doesn't have 3D Vapour Chamber so... maybe you are just jealous.
You can get desktop 1080s in laptops now
Any laptop will run well as long as it's windows and you delete system 32. Deleting system 32 makes any computer faster.
Just wait a bit until laptops with Pascal GPUs are on the market. Aim for at least a 1060 or even a 1050 if they'll make 'em.
Don't listen to cucks like these I have a year-old laptop I paid $500 for (in a country that has way fucking overpriced electronics prices) and I can play everything that's out at settings/framerates superior to consoles.
I play AAA titles on my XPS15.
AAA titles from 3 years ago, sure, but still.
If you're into indy vidya it doesn't really matter because sys requirements are so low anyway.
Nice to have "a laptop".
Go shit up some other threads, retard.
the fuck you on about shitbrain
When will pascal go below $1000 do you think? Id like to spend around $600 if i can
it'll take a while
maybe wait for price drops on "current gen" laptops and nab a 970m or 980m if you can't wait longer
Which is better? 970 or 980?
both are decent, though the 900-series on laptops arent as good as they should be
The 1060 on a laptop outperforms both of them, go for that user if you absolutely must
Cheapest one i saw was like 1100 burgers from asus
I just want to be able to play CIV and age of empires
...
Ahhh, 970m will do just fine
It's about at the same performance as a GTX670, which served me fantastically when i played CIV5 with some mods
The ability too play next gen would be nice, but whatever i can afford
Can you find the link to the 1100 one?
Finally, how would overclocking and Linux work with that? Any issues?
Thinkpad T420, change for a 500GB SSD if you got the cash and upgrade the RAM
even my mid 2012 15" macbook pro can play gta 5 just fine on low settings.
and those things go for like $700 nowadays
and you could get the 2013/14 retinas for about $1000 or less for slightly better performance, retina screen, and that glorious pcie ssd.
and that's in a pretty slim 15" formfactor, not some 17" 5" thick monster with a 12 minute battery life.
