They target cities like Provo and Kansas City and wonder why they're a failure.

Fucking retards

On the bright side, we won't have to worry about Google botnet controlling all the fiber lines.

On the shit side, it's still a pain in the ass to fight the communications monopoly mafia for someone to get access to the fiber lines.

Google Fiber does deep packet inspection on all traffic

I'm on Gfiber right now.

The city of Provo sold Google an existing shitty fiber network that was failing hard. Purchase price: $1. At least in Salt Lake City it's brand new fiber runs throughout. But the Provo thing left a LOT of people with a bad taste in their mouth.

At the same time, a lot of delays that they're experiencing elsewhere, like with the duopolies putting up roadblocks like crazy, is exactly what happened when our muni fiber network 'Utopia' started its build out several years back. A large amount of the money that was supposed to go to building the network ended up fighting Qwest (now Centurylink) and Comcast.

So while Google is responsible for part of the failure, you can't deny that the telcos and cable companies aren't playing their part.

Keep running your fiber in cities that have 0 tech industry and population demographics likely to have few users interested in fiber speeds.

if google fiber came here (east coast australia) i'd gladly browse the internet like an angel for the rest of my life

Are there any articles discussing this in depth?

If they wanted to actually get subscribers they should have targetted places with lots of people. Stating the obvious here, but of course you aren't going to reach subscriber goals by supplying west bumfuck Kansas with fiber.

They're obviously just going to use it to datamine you but you can route your traffic to a custom VPN server on your host of choice.
It's fiber so the latency penalty will be nonexistent and maybe cut 5-10% of your connection off but who gives a shit when this lets you browse gigabit, host services, and seed in relative privacy at ludicrous speeds.

The problem is infrastructure cost a lot, and even then local cities need to vote on it, Comcast has a lot of lobbyist so I think you can imagine how that goes.

Kansas City was the logical place to start.

That requires a lot of computing power.

Google can have a copy of my drives if it means I can get Gb/s Internet. Hell, I'll use my new high bandwidth connection to send it to them.

>google ISP
I'd rather have satellite desu

They only set up in cities which bent over backwards to get them there. So they only wound up setting up in shit holes where people are too stupid to understand what fiber in food is let along fiber optic internet.

Spainfag here. Enjoying my 300 mbit. Stay cuck.

There are people who willingly send all their internet traffic to a data mining company? What could possibly go wrong?

The important thing is that they managed to force cable companies to start offering faster service. Even if it's not gigabit, the fact I can get 300 Mbps in the middle of nowhere in Florida is pretty nice. Of course, I only pay for the 70 Mbps tier, but that doesn't stop them from giving me over 150 Mbps for whatever reason.

>not getting Google Fiber and ssh tunneling all your traffic through your VPS's connection

They didn't force anything.

Cable co's were already upgrading to DOC 3.0 and now are upgrading to 3.1 to offer 1gbit over cable.

I live in ocala and all we get here is Comcast, Cox, and bright house,
How much are you paying?

Ok fuck off

>thinking Google doesn't have the resources to crack your keys

google fiber hasn't done shit in the 6 months that I've had them
just avoid public trackers and you will be good because they will auto bill you if you get more than 1 dmca notice (my friend got his first and it would have been $650)

>thinking they do

Wrong

>tfw still stuck with shitty NorCal internet

>land of the free

I'm actually pretty close to where you are, I pay Brighthouse $150 a month for extended cable and Lightning 70 internet. Honestly I don't even fucking need TV and I could save a lot of money ditching it, but my mother just won't fucking let go. She already has all the fucking streaming shit, but every time I ask her if I can drop the TV service she gets outraged.

do it anyway.

tell her to get fucked.

PAY DEBNTS

Older people like their football, jesus TV, and CNN
Do you know how much it is for just internet
those extra channels fuck people over

Get an OTA antenna

Cable companies were being stingy, though. That being said, DOCSIS 3.1 will kill fiber.

I tried to tell her to get an HDTV antenna, but then she countered me saying she checked the broadcasting stations and they are too far away; she's actually competent with technology and checked the website that shows broadcasting ranges, then compared with the ranges of the antennas I put in her amazon cart. My hands are tied.

I didn't even check, but I'm willing to bet it would be ~$100/month if I dropped the TV.

>Bright side
Sorry, no bright sides in this life user.
intersection.com/

>only ISP in my area is AT&T
>fastest speed in my neighborhood is 6Mb

AT&T literally mirrors all traffic and gives the NSA direct access to their networks.
If anything, Google would be LESS of a botnet for me.

At least you got some golden ping there

Just use a fucking VPN.
You have 1GPS speeds.

Or better yet, stick to private trackers since torrenting seems to be the only thing they give a fuck about targeting.

With google fiber, I can actually back up my 25TB of data in a sane amount of time.(3 days). The only problem would be finding a cheap enough provider that'll let me host that much

>we have the technology to supply literal speed of light travel of huge amounts of information over vast distances
>a few filthy rich companies are allowed to deny you access to this amazing world-changing technology by literally just paying off the government
>your average citizen is too fucking stupid to realize or even care how bad this is

This kind of shit is the reason we are all going to die when the solar flares/giant meteors hit. We could have the tech to alter the atmosphere of other planets and make them habitable in another 700 years but we'll die anyway because some Jew wanted to line his pockets.

I remembered hearing about Google fiber and thought they would save me from the TWC Jews

guess they didnt

>Just use a fucking VPN.
>You have 1GPS speeds.

VPN ≠ ISP

>break the law
>get warning
>break it again
>get punished
I don't see how that doesn't make this the land of the free
and it's better than india where they are threatening to send you to jail for 3 years

Any Huntsville Alabama fags here?

Google Fiber meme soon.

this.

>We're a tech company we have better solutions for everything
>Pffff running cables to each house, we're a tech company grandpa
>Oh so you have to run cables to peoples houses?! Shit that can get expensive
>Let's go somewhere with very low density population and little to no subscriber base that should work.

>west bumfuck Kansas
East Bumfuck, Kansas actually.

>le kuk
fuck off reddit

>they will auto bill you if you get more than 1 dmca notice
How is this legal, a DMCA notice isn't proof of actual infringement. Plus even if you were guilty it is a civil matter between you and the person you infringed, not google.

???

How much does that cost?

Sorry about your loss user.

$70 a month.

>Show me what you've got

fiber.google.com/cities/kansascity/plans/

...

I got shit lol.

Why didn't they start in college towns where the demand is high?

>Have AT&T because mother got mad at cuckcast for shitty customer service
>Pays the same price as she did for Comcast, but we get 500kb/s at best
>Can't leave because signed for 2 years and refuses to just break it
>Any download over 10gb takes almost a whole day or even more depending on how much others are using the Internet
At least I'll be out and gone soon

Any chance you have Sprint?

Root dat phone, and tether on 3g/4g, it'll be better in certain situations, and is unlimited.

>copying harmless files
>>break the law

>land of the free

It's not going anywhere, they just aren't planning to expand.

they targeted some garbage dump in nevada and utah i dont understand it

>get google fiber
>1tb a month cap
>speedtest for giggles
>it's all oger

Well like the other user said, they chose Provo because it already had a fiber network in place, they just upgraded it.
Now they're expanding it up to Salt Lake which just went live. Northern Utah is expanding like crazy in the tech industry, it's poised to be the next Silicon Valley.
The NSA is here, Facebook is trying to build a huge data center near Salt Lake, plus we have Overstock, Adobe, Ebay and a bunch of other software and tech companies, so hopefully adoption of Fiber will grow, cause it's pretty damn nice.

>cap
Hahahahahahano.

Lol free market.

They're not cutting staff, and I totally don't work for Google.

They're retiring this in favor of a new and more promising high-speed internet venture.

sciencealert.com/google-is-working-on-beaming-high-speed-wireless-internet-into-your-home

I wish they came to Miami...

I don't want google beams in my house that gives you the cancer.

>it's PCS debacle all over agian

The whole ISP venture will die when Google rediscovers that high frequencies don't penetrate walls very well.

While providing fast, cheap and reliable service. Meanwhile cuntcast snoops all your data AND gives you shit quality internet at the same time.

Troll

Imagine the guy who had to splice that.

>Nashville
>Hyped as fuck
>Months later
>Comcast and AT&T refuse to give in and let fiber roll out
>I am stuck with shit service forever
Fuck

Company does similar thing to my city

Built a full fibre network many ducts for easy access

"You're a fibre city"

£2500 install + £650 a month

City fibre are con-artists

This tbqh.
Sad truth, but that's the reality of it. Gotta pick the lesser of two evils.

> (OP)
>Keep running your fiber in cities that have 0 tech industry and population demographics likely to have few users interested in fiber speeds.
Nigger are you retarded? Go look at a list of tech companies in Utah county.

>the shartinmarts want to be ruled by evil kings like comcast, verizon, at&t and twc.
LAND OF THE FREE

Comcast is in a gay orgy bed buttfuck with every state and local government in the US. It's been tough as shit for Google to get anything done.

Yeah the Comcast, Charter, AT&T, and Verizon botnet is soooooo much better. Fuck you.

For you

Unlimited Home 4G Internet when?

>live in Salt Lake City
>Fiber is "available"
>it's not actually available
REEEEEEEEEEEEE

Let me get this straight, Americans are being offered insane speeds for an excellent price by an ISP that is not constantly trying to screw them over and somehow they do not sign up for the service? Are you guys this retarded?

They literally just started rolling it out, and only to certain neighborhoods
>The initial deployment "will cover roughly 112 blocks from 100 South to 800 South between 400 West and 1300 East

arstechnica.com/information-technology/2016/08/google-fiber-hits-salt-lake-city-now-available-in-seven-metro-areas/

...

Most people already have internet contracts, and it costs a fuck ton to cancel them before they're up

And not everyone is tech literate enough to realize why gigabit is nice or desirable, they just see it as faster internet

free as in freedoms
not free as in monetary

>Freedom to eat, OR watch movies
I guess i don't deserve to do anything fun.
I'll just watch the wall again, I'm just glad the millonaire content industry didn't lose out on a potential movie sale

It's only been offered to a fraction of a percent of the total population of the country.

>DEBNTS

Murka!

>wireless for your home
>mfw

>thinking these jews will even spend a single cent to datamine your porn habits

Nice quoting you got there, faggot.

Fucking same.
