What do you do on Sup Forums?

NASA does. We use Gentoo on our test machines so we can optimize them rigorously.

Cool. Is it the Mongolian rock carving forum?

Cool. A lot of higher level people here at NASA also complain about that. They were good coders 10 years ago, now they are just power point and conference call guys.

It's a Japanese voice synthesizer forum.

Do you play vidya? Good, you now fit right in!

Database Administrator at a pharmaceutical company

I played The Sims a few times as a kid but that's all tbqh

>How's the salary?
455k NOK before taxes (~55.3k USD)

>Where do you work?
No where right now. Just interviewed with a state gov agency for an entry-level IT job while I go back to school.

>What do you do?
I'm returning to get a second bachelor's degree after dropping out of the graduate program I was in this time last year. The more I learned about the industry I was going in to, the more I realized it was shit.

>Do you like it?
It hasn't started yet, I start next week and I'm pretty new. I'm getting my BS in computer science after taking up an interest in programming. I'm not good, but I want to be. I'm more of a left-handed creative type, but once I realized what programming can give you the freedom to do I got curious. So far I'm most interested in C#, and I hear Java is similar but the program I'm in focuses on C++. I'm a little nervous but I'm excited at the same time. Browsing Sup Forums makes me anxious though. I feel like everything I do is wrong every time I visit here.

>How's the salary?
Supposedly it starts at ~65k, but in my experience the sites that publish this stuff tend to overestimate.

>my room
>wallow in self pity, occasionally code something
>no, I don't enjoy anything anymore
>$0

Someone just put me down already. It's been over a year, and the time literally flew by.

I'm starting my final year of a speech and language therapy degree next week. I love it, I'm hoping to go into acute medicine or neuro-rehab. The wage is ok (Britfag so NHS meh salary). But it's incredibly rewarding and job prospects are really good, especially as I'm a guy and only like 3% of speech therapists are male.

Nice. Good on you for following your dreams.

What's your research focused on?

I'm a call center debt collector.

I made a lady cry because i tried to get her to pay her balance while she was making funeral arrangements.

It got to me.

It's okay, i'd like to work as a network technician but this is fine.
>How's the salary?
The pay is... Well, okay at best.

I'm a server at an International Airport, so I help you order food on our Apple iPad system.
I like it. It's fast paced, pays well enough to satisfy me, and I get to meet famous people from time to time.
I make about 400 a week plus about 4-500 in tips per week depending on how busy it is. That's not including the insane taxes taken out of my check every week.

kek.

The Joke.

Dream big, start applying to other places fast. Kids are going back to school, they need positions filled!

I could apply as a network administrator at the local college, but they're using windows server for everything. Too lazy to learn that trash

I'm 20 and dropped out of highschool, give me a break.

>dropped out of highschool
>give me a break

Just no.
No.

Social shit has always been a drag to me. I used to manage it fine, but I can't handle it now that I've torn my shit up and have unfixable flaws that drag me down. Turns out getting a job is a very social thing. No one actually teaches or even mentions that shit in school.

>Where do you work?

Large tech company.
>What do you do?
Manage large server fleets and write services that integrate into existing internal apis and help manage and test availability. I also do a lot of ops work putting out fires.
>Do you like it?
Yes, it is satisfying being part of a large project that people know about, and I just enjoy the things I work on typically and I work with people way smarter than I am so I constantly learn a ton.
>How's the salary
Pretty good, less than a developer it seems, but I well and I save a lot. Better than many of my friends and my area isn't too high cost.

$13/hr to sit on your ass and push ecig shit? God damn, I work in a place that deals with psychotropic medications, needing constant training and (re)certification and I don't even get $10/hr. Consider yourself fucking lucky

Go back to school and get a good payijg job other than giving people cancer.

Lmao my sister does that except for school children, she's pissed cause she got the job she was finding for and she still doesn't make that much money

Is it that bad? I've been trying to get an internship that good for so long. What do you do? I go to Uw and those are so sought after

>Where do you work?
Kmart and a small computer repair shop

>What do you do?
Kmart: usual retail shit. Stock items, help customers, etc.

Computer place: Run computer diagnostics, fix the computers of computer illiterates, sell computer parts, reinstall Windows...

>Do you like it?
Kmart: Fuck no. I'm getting out of there as soon as I graduate.

Local computer shop: I love it.

>How's the salary?
Kmart: $7.75/hour

Local Computer place: $8.50/hour but should be at least $10/hour because I have an A+. Presumably it's because I'm part time at the moment.

I study kernel code and debug the kernel with an experienced employee I'm essentially shadowing, and fetching breakfast and other mundane tasks. Not worth it man. I'd leak and whistleblow on so much shit but I'd be sued with a quickness

It's not national security shit, just terrible ancient, painted over code that got worse and worse

Oh, we already know about that. I don't know if I still have the image, but some guy basically spilled a lot of shit on some message board. I'll see if I can find it.

I've seen it, it's true. The guy who said all that broke his NDA and nobody knows what happened after.

Steve Jobs took him to another plane of existence as thanks.

I get $9000 at the end of the first year of continuous work, after that I only have to do 2-weeks/year to keep receiving this salary (unless I'm in college the call of duty is mandatory)

Did you apply to that or get it through a connection? I wish I could get something that easy to boost my resume and learn something about real life code without getting blamed for being terrible at this shit.

Mainly thru this person my family was friends with, you can apply but its a long shot

>Where do you work?

I mean, it's wage + commission, and I'm pretty good at the whole sales thing, so ya. It's fucking mind numbing though cause now Ive got the hang of it and it's rinse and repeat for most customers

Can earn roughly $500-$10,000 per house if I hit the right house. Recently came into possession of a Rolex which I'm gonna sell.

Need pics for proof. I'm genuinely curious. Have you ever been caught?

Nah never been caught. Been suspected but damn did I cut it close.

It is possible to work for a government other than the American government

Damn that thing's like 10-15k right? How did you feel after you found it?

HEY YOU PIECE OF SHIT, THATS MY WATCH

Like I just won the lottery LMFAO. But it isn't the only thing from the house I grabbed. I'm waiting for the heat to die down on it (generally people will check with jewellers once they notice something is stolen) so after it does, I'll pocket the money. I know of a house with this contractor of a friend of mine and he buys his woman stacks of 5k Gucci bags and shit. I reckon I can get at least 60k just on that house in bags alone. Problem is I gotta steak it out for a while to find the right opportunity. I know how to bypass his security system and if that fails I know where inside he keeps the alarm. And I know the code to it. Just gotta find the right opportunity.

/thread please

I probably wouldn't risk hitting someone close. I have never stolen anything but I probably would hit random houses in random neighborhoods if I was.

A large cloud company
Security engineer
The work is good, the politics are insane. Fuck giant american companies.
~110k AUD in salary and stock

Give it back Tyrione!

The guy doesn't know me but my friend knows him. I never hit a house unless I
1.know it's going to be worth the risk
2.know the inside and outs
3.know I wont get a sudden surprise (them coming back early or they have cameras). If they have cameras I need to know if it's on-site storage. That way I can just take the whole computer.

>How's the salary?
I make about 90k/yr before taxes working 20h a week no bennies.

the work is extremely repetitive and taxing on your body. If you don't mind going to work at 9pm and getting off at 2am then you might like it.

>Tech repair company
>Customer service and fiddling around with PC's
>Yeah it's chill but pretty boring, i get paid for doing literally nothing
>It's decent

>Where do you work?
Bioinformatics/HPC lab at a university.

>What do you do?
Genome assembly/computational genomics in general, mostly.

>Do you like it?
Yeah it's great.

>How's the salary?
Not that great, £36,000 per year.

I'm an independent contractor. I drive for various companies like Amazon, Uber, postmates, etc. Yes, it's flexible and nets me enough cash to buy what I want as long as daddy keeps paying the rent.

I'm glad it has nothing to do with computers (well, I use their proprietary apps but w/e) because then I don't think I'd enjoy them as much.

Where do you work?
>large tech company

This is my problem: my job is actually easy as fuck but it's still eating me. Should've chosen something else. Just something else.
How's the salary?
about 1750€/mm after taxes

how comfy are you on a nightly basis

I just want a laid back, easy job with lots of programming. Lower pay is fine with me.
I'm entering my second year of CS, and I'm on for a first at a top uni. What sort of things should I be specialising in?

>works at NASA
>coders

Are u black?

Kill youreself nigger

Most of the time, pretty comfy. I can show up blazed off my ass and just browse the internet all night, stopping to help the 1 customer every ~30 minutes.

Since it's a shitty hotel though, it occasionally sucks when someone decides to party too hard.

>What's your research focused on?

front end developer, 24k€ a year because I'm europoor, live in a comfy studio saving a little less than a third of my salary so cant really complain

Starting a PhD in scientific computing next week. Do I still get 300k starting after it if it's run by the math department?

i literally cant be a neet, my parents are mentally unstable and my childhood was pretty shit. i now work over 40hrs a week and its heaven

You have stockholm syndrome, you've been deluded into thinking you need this job and your master - I mean boss is your friend.

I'm In my country, getting a PhD is not going to be helpful in terms of future earnings. By the time you've completed your thesis, you could have been working for years and increasing your salary every year through negotiations. You're not going to catch up, but earning big money shouldn't be your motivation for doing a PhD in the first place.

i need this job because its that or my parents lad

>Where do you work?
Still at uni, but i help my parents manage real estate.
>What do you do?
Talk to people and stuff.

Just so-so. I'm pretty fucking sure we have several tens of millions in property, but whatever man as long as i can eat and sleep it's good.

>Where do you work?
SpaceX
>What do you do?
Weld rockets. And occasionally shill on behalf of Elon.
>Do you like it?
It's the best job I've had and my previous jobs were pretty nice as well so that's saying a lot.
>How's the salary?
It's pretty good. Even though I'm in a more supervisory role now I'm still an hourly employee, I make a nice base rate while having tons of OT available which is paid extremely well.

This is why you're a wagecuck normie. You don't need a job. I for one am truly free and can think for myself.

im actually not a normie at all, i just do this for a living dude and i actually like coding tBh

>He has a job
>Isn't a normie

Wow... never realized how good I had it compared to Sup Forums.
> I work at a reasonably big hardware company.
> I make mobile apps and Web based software.
> I like it a lot because I'm one of five software people in the company, and the only one in my division, so I get to make big decisions that form company policy despite being three months out of uni.
> 70k was my starting, but I'm likely to get a raise soon because I'm doing way more than wants in my contract.

Local inn/hotel as dishwasher

Almost everything u can do at a place like that, obviously im in the kitchen washing stuff but i also take care of alot of work around there
>Do i like it?
It's okay since im studying next to it, and i have some nice coworkers.
>salary
15 us$/hour

>I'm doing way more than wants in my contract.
Sounds like you're getting fucked over then.

Not if he uses it as the basis for getting a promotion or significant raise.

Even without those it's more experience which can help in getting other jobs.

>Where do you work?
I don't work.
>What do you do?
I sit on my ass, browse this shithole, play video games, read books, or watch anime.
>Do I like it?
I like it better than working.
>How's the salary
Terrible, obviously; I'm living off the money I saved when I actually had a job and it's running out soon. I'm going to apply for foodbux soon. I doubt I qualify for neetbux since I have never been diagnosed with anything, but turbotax told me I can get food aid when I did my taxes several months ago. Only reason I didn't is I haven't even been a resident of this state for a year yet. I'm probably going to end up working at fucking Walmart or something unless a family member wins the lottery real soon or I find a job online doing something.

knowyourmeme.com/memes/mathematics-phd

I'm in Austria and PhD'ing in a large industry company. Get paid as much as I'd be working (~45k€) and should get a PhD after 3-5 years out of it. I also see it count a lot like industry work experience. At least I won't be new to the politics and working outside uni.
Agree though that pure unviersity PhDs living off a less than industry salary aren't good in financial terms.
