Music player

Favourite Android music player?
Mine is onix but since I'm a Google play music subscriber it's pretty much useless. That being said does anyone know of a music player that can act as a client for Google play music?

Poweramp. It's simply the best player out there period.

I've heard this from a ton of people but I just don't see it. I can't get over that it isn't material design. :(

Someone knows a player besides PowerAmp that handles mp4s as well?

Poweramps previous versions have Material Design Skins tho
The Developer of those just fucked up the mm support

The only player I can think of that would support mp4 is VLC. it's pretty much an all around champ if you want one app for all media.

The layout isn't all that bad either.

phonograph. The only thing I´m missing is browsing by genre.

Rocket Player. Mostly because I hate how Android manages music.

Been using shuttle for a few months without problems

Shuttle+ has browsing by genre. It has the same layout as phonograph with a few more features.

Out of curiosity, what exactly do you mean by this?

What app do you use to take those screenshots?

Android uses a media storage to keep track of your media on the device. That includes everything from music to ringtones. Whenever you add anything to your device, the mediastorage should update the file list it feeds your music player. Sometimes it just doesn't, or it ignores changes you made to files/playlists, or it gets corrupted. This is a known issue and the solution is to either restart your device, or force a rebuild by deleting the mediastorage file.

Rocket player gives you the option of not using the media storage, it creates its own db based on the folders you tell it to scan, so it will update playlists and file locations without much issue. This is pretty neat if you use a music player to sync your computer with your device. Downside is that rebuilding this db takes a few minutes.

That said, most people don't have issues with the media storage. It is most noticeable if you use something like dynamic playlists on your pc that you then send to your device.

The app is called stitch and share. It's a pretty useful app to have. Here's the link: play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.glitch.stitchandshare

Interesting. Thanks for the detailed explanation!

Nigger player

before I completely switched to Spotify, shuttle was my favorite after having used poweramp for a year. Poweramp just didn't look that good anymore.

for anyone interested in the full version of poweramp

How's Spotify's offline listening?

pretty good, works exactly the same and online. You can choose audio quality and the downloads don't take long at all

The custom db came straight out of GoneMAD music player, and GoneMAD itself has way more features, though also more pricey. I'd recommend that.

Cool, thanks for the info! Had I known, I would have definitely bought it a couple of months ago, but the rocket dev finally updated the UI so it doesn't look like shit anymore, which was my only problem with it.

I'll give it a look anyway, to see if any of the extra features catches my attention.

I've noticed this to be a massive problem (I say problem but realistically it's but of a personal issue) in the the Android community, especially among ROM devs and media players. Devs seem to just take whatever feature they please from someone else and copy/paste it into theirs. A prime example of this is Chroma ROM.

Oops!

Realistically it's more of a personal issue I have with the ethics of devs.***
