still looking for a lightweight antivirus

ok, so ya know how when we run java games and programs, it's done in a VM?
virtual machine > machine >
so why are there no machines that run java programs natively? how hard would it be to create one, SBC style?

>Java CHIP
>Java pi
etc...

You wouldn't need one if you had better taste in operating systems.

this is the stupid questions thread, not the stupid answers thread

gigo

trips of truth!

Is it possible to find the location of a poster?

Like their physical address?

>help cousin put together PC
>parts arrive
>takes some struggling, but get it all together
>realize that he ended up with a x16 card instead of x8

Now, given the situation that I'm in, if he adds a x8 card, will the system put it into SLI automatically or should I return the card to get two x8s?

Is this bullshit?

that, or get better mobo
so what's best in your budget.

I want to connect my laptop to a monitor and use said monitor as my primary screen.

If my laptops resolution is 1600x900, and the monitor in question is say 1920x1080, what happens to the resolution? Will performance be impacted?

I don't understand screens and shit at all.

people literally do this all the time. it'll be fine.

It will have an impact but for most things besides gaming it wont matter, you could probably go dual monitor if your hardware isnt garbage

>jpg

what connector are you using?
depending on your graphics, even intel graphic can pump 1080p @ 60hz to monitor via hdmi
displayport, same thing
vga, maybe u can get 1080, maybe not. if that's your only connector, you may have an old machine that can't pump it out like that.
there's also the wireless monitor option, google and read up on that and you pc/monitor specifics
id' also like to know this

Thanks guys.

For the last guy, I'm using a T420 with some discrete GPU on displayport. I'm sure it'll be fine then, right?

damn son, it's not a nuclear bomb.
just do it.

>send us a pic of your setup when you do

I suppose there's no reason you couldn't in theory create a system that worked like a physical implementation of the JVM and ran Java code natively. My guess is there's just not enough motivation to do so. Part of the point of Java is that it's portable and can run wherever, as soon as you start talking about building a specific architecture specifically to run it better it seems like you'd be better off just using a different language.

Then again, I'm hardly an expert, and there could very well be some instructions in the virtual machine that would be very difficult to implement in an actual hardware design.

Is there any way to force my browser to justify any block of text on web pages?

Should be a pretty trivial extension to make in GreaseMonkey or something.

>lightweight antivirus
If you're willing to go without background protection and just do periodic scans, the MBAM is pretty good.

>so why are there no machines that run java programs natively?
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Java_processor

>Is it possible to find the location of a poster?
No.

Also to add to this, it would probably (though again I'm not an expert so could be wrong) be easier to simply write a compiler that compiles the Java code into proper machine code that your CPU can execute directly. Wouldn't be surprised if such a thing already existed, actually.

Though it would likely be a bit buggy since a lot of the more complex Java functions do expect to be executing in the JVM, so you'd have to port that stuff over somehow.

Only if you are a mod. Even then you only get an IP address, which only gives a general location, though you could always try to social engineer their ISP into telling it to you.

thanks, m8!

Heyyy you cool kids wouldn't happen to have a guide to uhh... General Browser Security I guess? I hear people talk about greasing their noscripts or whatever and I want in.

What's a good light linux distro for my old x61 thinkpad?

My Windows 7 gets stuck searching for updates but never updates... Any idea?

You need

support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3138612
support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3050265
support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3179573

hardline, no wifi
set it to update while you sleep
set it to auto restart for updates

Recently, I installed Windows 7 SP1 and failed to install the updates because it was taking several hours to show any results. I left my computer on for a few days while I visited a friend, and when I returned the webcam light was on. I don't think that I have a virus, as it's a fresh installation and I use NoScript and Adblock on Firefox. Do you think there was just an opened port from out of date software that was exploited? If it was exploited, will the update fix the vulnerability? Should I do a malwarebytes scan? Will it even matter?

Friend died, I never really cried the first day, currently on the end of the second day and I feel nothing

I realize I'm autistic but fuck me I hate myself for not being able to break down, hope it doesn't happen at work if it happens

What do?

>Should I do a malwarebytes scan? Will it even matter?
asking this questions mean YES you should run MWB, will it fix your problem? 50/50 but run that shit NOW

Install gentoo

Well, if it's megasploit, is it detectable my malwarebytes?

That's a normal reaction.
Talk to a therapist if you're feeling worried about it.

Grief is weird.

I built my PC with i5 6500 + EVGA GYX 1060 GAMING + Asus VG248QE 144 Hz monitor. I can get around 110-150 fps on my games, but since they're old (2007-2008), they're not optimized for modern stuff, then the fps may drastically drop from one moment to another based on maps/players' amount ecc.ecc. They're both source games, then I'm wondering what I could expect if I turned V-sync on. Since I'm running them on a 144 Hz monitor, would V-sync limit the fps close to 144 fps or would it limit the fps to around 60 fps?

>therapist
That's like 20 good pizzas

Apparently, my brain runs on pure logic, guess my internal logic is there's many to come

>That's like 20 good pizzas
You can tell the pizzas about how you feel, but after 20 of them you'll just end up feeling worse.

>Apparently, my brain runs on pure logic
Nope.

everyone is different man.
i had to go alone to my dad's apartment and go through all his stuff after he passed in dec '08.
crying didn't just happen for me either. always thought it would up until then.
i kinda had to force myself to cry about it. (i'm slightly aspie). i miss him still, and i long for a chance to be with him again and i'm sad for the loss when i think about it, (like now... thanks for bringing it up), but i don't fall apart, just not my nature.

if you do happen to break down at work, hopefully someone there already knows about your loss and can comfort you or cover for you, explain to boss. - if you are really concerned it may heppen, and you work in a safety oriented job like driving, heavy equipment, medical, electrical - use a personal day, make your self cry about it so that that part is over and you can move on. also:

you're still here?
go run malwarebytes and come back after you're done

I dug up my old iPod Touch 2nd gen, thing won't go beyond iOS 4.2.1 and most things don't work on it. Is there any way I can keep using this thing despite major limitations to software and hardware?

It plays music like a champ and I can read emails fine, but everything else, even website stuff lags or fails to load. e.g. YouTube is completely broken.

>hardline, no wifi

May I ask why?

Am not home, am using Mint on a laptop from my buddies place. He drank too much and passed out, so here I am.

>Nope.
That's basically how it works, it's incredibly rare for me to be angry or sad, and I haven't been actually happy in years, basically just completely numb at this point, probably part of it

Pretty much half vulkan

Naw, nothing like that I'll just be around a few hundred people if anything happens

because whther you know it or not, wifi drops out at times. and windows update (up thru 8.1) sucks at this. one pause it it thinks, oh no, i'm dead - no more internet ever, let's just hang here indefinitely

My Netgear WNDRMAC is no longer giving me a wireless connection, it also has a consistent ringing sound. From what I've read the capacitor is done (and I have not the ability to fix such a thing) - would you rec I try and fiddle around w/ it or just get a new one?

Also rec for a new router, I only use WoW / slsk / libgen (I'm not sure if any of this matters) so it can be cheap.

Vimfag here
I've decided to try out Emacs since it seems like a superior development environment, at least for Lisp languages
Should I go full-out Emacs, or run Spacemacs or Evil? Also, what plugins best emulate:
>Nerdtree
>Tagbar
>YCM
>Syntastic

Which is the best ad blocker?

Will upgrading from a G router to an AC router increase the range or just the speed? What about from N to AC?

I have a Netgear WGR614v10 which was a G when I bought it, but at some point there was a firmware upgrade that gave it a 150Mbps mode, so it might be N now.

ublock origin

if upgrading your router, make sure you device(s) have same tech - ac = most bandwidth and range
but don't go cheap - buy in the middle of the price range.

She's cute!!
Also, UBlock Origin to answer your question. Turn on a lot of the 3rd party filters in the settings when you get it.

Derp around with a few files in spacemacs, if only to get a taste of what it can do, but don't start with it. It shoves a bajillion config and packages down your throat. Not that that's bad, but you get a feel for your system by installing packages, configuring them and binding the keys yourself. The best course is to start with vanilla and add packages on top of it.

Evil mode is a must
Neotree ~ Nerdtree
YCM ~ company-mode autocomplete
Syntastic ~ Flychecker (it checks on the motherfucking fly)
Not sure about tagbar

Why are you switching user?

Forgot a link. Here are some Emacs tutorial-screncast type things (the 01 to 19 files). They expire in 3 hours so get them now

It started because vim fucks up Lisp indenting and I wanted a Lisp editor, but I've read more into it and I've realized that there's a lot to like about Emacs
It may not be a permanent switch, but I want to keep an open mind

Thanks for the advice by the way

Hey user, just wanted to say, that the thing you said about the pizzas was really deep man. thank you

i'm pirating windows 10 for my build pc. will it cause any complications to use a keygen?

if I use a PS/2 keyboard connect it to a PS/2 to usb, will it still be as slow as a normal USB keyboard because of the PS/2 to USB adapter?

Lisp indentation is pretty good as far as I saw. Configs are (e)lisp anyway so you bump into it no matter how (un)interested you are in lisp. I also recommend `use-package', it helps with organising your configs (and flychecker requires it). Flycheker support lisp syntax checking out of the box but I guess you'll want to fiddle with it.

If you get the need for vim-like empty-line tildes, chuck this in your config:
(setq-default indicate-empty-lines +1) ;; indicate which lines are empty
(progn
;; define a tilde bitmap face
;; [#b00000000 0
;; #b00000000 0
;; #b00000000 0
;; #b01110001 113
;; #b11011011 219
;; #b10001110 142
;; #b00000000 0
;; #b00000000] 0
(define-fringe-bitmap 'tilde [0 0 0 113 219 142 0 0] nil nil 'center)
;; set the tilde bitmap
(setcdr (assq 'empty-line fringe-indicator-alist) 'tilde))
;; change the tilde collor to the theme's `comment` color
(set-fringe-bitmap-face 'tilde 'font-lock-comment-face)

Be sure to check
volafile (dot) io (fslash) r (fslash) kUFzLJ

ps/2 is the slow point here

How do I program my F keys to turn up/down the brightness/volume?

Here's a stupid questions

Is this a stupid question thread or is this a thread about questions related to j query?

Why do people do this to themselves?

GO ask you dumbass

of course it's fake

god you're so stupid it makes me mad

Try AutoHotkey. Very useful program for rebinding keys or creating pretty much any kind of macro you want.

Is rinsing a bottle I drank something out of thoroughly with tap water good enough to make it clean? Or will there still be invisible bacteria growing in it?

Don't like using soap since no matter how much I rinse I wind up leaving a bit of residue that taints whatever I drink next.

Is Ninite safe/trustworthy?

Ninite is the tits.

certain plastics hold the bacteria
depends on what the bottle is made of
boiling water 100C or 212F is a good way to sterilize (but may be too hot for certain plastics) and it will get the soap residue out.

Malwarebytes+adwcleaner.

What are some good apps to crack wifi for nonroot phones?
Androdummper, Router keygen and what else?

Just got a touchscreen laptop, what's the best free software for making music I can get that'll utilize the touchscreen?

audacity

Well my old iPhone 4 running iOS 7.3 is pretty shit so it's safe to say that all you can use that for is a glorified iPod.

Thanks mate, I'll look into that.

How is this for someone's first casual speaker set up? Before this I've just used basic logitech cheap powered speakers and wanted to step it up. Thanks guys for any input

Can I just copy and paste ssh keys for my vps from one client to another to another and it'll still work?

Do I cop? Better deal on another product somewhere else?

How about you find something else and compare it with that.

Was just asking if it was a good deal for a SP4.

How 2 get faster wireless speeds? Am I totally fucked?

What's your router, network card, and the things in between them?

>not sure if trolling
>or just retarded

That said, we are almost at the point where Deus Ex is a thing.

How do credit cards work? Is it basically free money, or do you have to pay it back eventually?

Just signed up for a credit card for the first time and they say I have a $30,000 limit but I don't know if that means they're giving me $30,000 or just loaning it to me.

Ninite is safe enough. I prefer Chocolatey though.

It seems weird to me people don't talk about that more often.

Is using structs the standard way of creating graphs/nodes in c? I'm need to implement a graph in a c program and would like to konw where to start

The network card is apart of my Mobo, I have an older tenda router and a wall, I'd say probably 15 feet of space between the PC and router and modem

It seems weird to me that external GPUs werent being talked about 5 years ago when Thunderbolt was introduced. Only now are people going mad for external graphics even though we've been doing it for a long ass time.

It's constantly loan. They make money on interest when you don't pay your credit card bill.

>Have credit card
>Buy something for $5000
>You get a bill, or in some cases you do it manually asking you to pay $5000
>If you don't do it in time, you must pay $5050 next month, which keeps increasing

If I preorder a game on Amazon with 2-day shipping am I guaranteed to get release day shipping if it winds up being offered later down the line? Or will I have to cancel and re-order at that point?

If you can evade law enforcement for six months after a company first starts demanding payment then you don't have to pay it back.

I have a msi 380 haven't over clocked it, it was running fine the other day and now counter strike refuses to launch something about a D3D error. Steam suggests reinstalling drivers which I've done and adding a launch option I've also done. What gives? Also had noticed weird fps drops the last few days when it had worked

reinstall directx
verify game cache
