>Nvidia and Intel are focusing on reducing power consumption to be able to put desktop parts into laptops
Why? Why not work on actually reducing the power consumption of laptop parts? Gtx 960m was 75w, imagine if gtx 1050m would have been same performance but 40w instead.
Why not offer better performance at 95w on the desktop instead of dropping down to 80w over 4 generations.
Are desktops stagnating? In 20 years will the desktop be dead, replaced with phones and tablets?
Flagship arm processors can now offer ~one third of a haswell i7 performance too.

Because it's a double benefit, it gets you in the market to sell high end laptop parts and the reduction in power and heat feeds back benefits to desktops.

Will there ever come a time when chips aren't heat constrained?

In which applications?

Fucking sad. Some virgin got triggered by seeing a picture of a woman on an imageboard, then spergs about it.

this community should use the branded 4 Chan OS, and make it deployable on any android capable fonez.

>are desktops stagnating? >last generation of GPU is completely blowing away the old one in terms of performance Yeah totally stagnating. Hardly any gains, only like 40% in some cases.
Austin Butler
That's not why they do it, you fucking nigger
They're reducing power consumption for SERVERS
Nolan Campbell
Only for VPU, not for CPU.
Anthony Russell
The reason why CPU are 'stagnating' is because Intel doesnt have a reason to actually push forward. They basically have a monopoly, so its AMDs fault that the industry isnt developing as fast as it should be.

>Yeah totally stagnating. Hardly any gains, only like 40% in some cases. Not all programs benefit from parallelism. See Amdahl's Law. Thus, increasing the number of cores won't always help. How about a few more gigahertz?

desktop will never die, because the faster Tech will always be bigger, and at least be one step ahead. If ARM is finally so fast as Desktop CPUs there will be Generation of Processors that will be much faster. Don`t calculate the future Tech with the Tech that is available, because silicon Chips are reching the limit, and a new Generation of Chips will start in no later than 4-6 years. No matter what Intel or Nvidia is developing now,

Or I don't know, maybe Dennard scaling is dead

Or they can make the smart decision and attempt to bring desktop power to laptops.

Yeah, but i dont´t think that this big bulky machines, wich take that heavy workload will disappear.

Maybe parallel performance but probably only if they have 8 cores so they can pretend that the ISA is more efficient even though the actual reason is that by having more cores each core can have half the clockspeed and voltage which means half as much power is consumed for the same performance.

thats true but anime looks shit too. all women are shit and no {number}D will change that
