the majority of this board doesn't even know what cyberpunk is or they dismiss it as some far fetched scifi. Most people are uncomfortable when fiction becomes reality and prefer to dismiss it. We are very much entering an age with elements of cyberpunk

Try to get down your thoughts on why were moving into a dystopia. That's what I plan on doing over time. Getting things down on "paper" really helps me mentally otherwise I feel as if everything will just fade into an unsolvable abstraction

The control of people. At the begining of Ghost in the Shell they gave a little backstory into its world. In it, it stated Nations had not YET become obsolete. Heads of states used to represent the people of that nation as there was no way for everyone to get their own representation. The internet is breaking down those walls.
Why are people more Nationalistic now? It is because they see the weakening of the Nationalist culture. They see a breaking down of religious morals as well, which explains the uptick in radicalization within all religions.
As I said, cyberpunk was a genre to show us that we would have many questions about ourselves to answer. Now we must answer them.

Do you know why most legitimate authorities don't try to discount conspiracy theories? It's because if the people believe it, it makes that authority stronger in the peoples eyes. If they are that strong that no one dares even touch them, or they can control us, or they manipulate our lives with every step we take, then who would fight them.

They control public opinion to such a great extent that what is common knowledge or easily derivable conclusions from information available are actually falsehoods set up in their favor. If you think within the boundaries they've set up, you're not going to come to any conclusions that actually threaten the order of things. So yes, the theory does require you to abandon preconceived notions and reject common sense, because these have likely been compromised and will lead you astray.
