Am I making a mistake?
This is intended to be a "budget" build.
I'll be able to play all modern games at max settings right?
It's all in Australian Dollars.

b-bump senpai
>max settings
>1060
You'd be able to play all modern games, Just not maxed.
At least 1080p 60fps?
I also realised I left out a PSU so add $99 for a 550W modular.
Get octa channel RAM it's 8 times faster because it's octa
A 1060 is about the same performance as a 980, so you'd be able to get good settings at 1080p60, I think.
Should I maybe dish out for a 1080?
I mainly want to be able to play Total War Warhammer and the upcoming Space Marine
do not buy windows
Absolutely not.
What monitor resolution and refresh rate do you have? How long do you want to play modern games at max settings?
If it's just 1080p at 60fps, then don't bother going higher than a GTX1060 or RX480.
Ditch the blueray writer and the Windows license. You probably can find a cheaper motherboard and you should reduce the ram to 8gb.
Optionally, I would get rid of the hard drive and upgrade the SSD to 500gb
Some thoughts -
1060 will do fine getting 60 fps on high at 1080. maybe don't expect like super ultra epic whatever, but totally acceptable for 2-3 years running games without compromising settings that actually matter.
16gb RAM isn't technically necessary for gaming, but will help with multitasking and it's not significantly more expensive than 2x 4gb sticks. You want to keep dual channel ram no matter what you choose.
I'd downgrade the storage drive and upgrade the SSD. Go for a cheap 1tb storage drive and a 500gb SSD. You need more than 200gb space, because AAA games are like 50gb now.
Blu-ray thing is probably a waste of money.
You can get windows 10 licenses totally legally for $20 online from places like kinguin. Between dropping the bluray player, changing to 2x 4gb sticks of RAM, and saving $150 on Windows you could cover the upgrade cost to a 500gb SSD and save some money still. Even just dropping the bluray and Windows gives you $200+ to work with to get peripherials or whatever.
Also don't upgrade to a 1070 or 1080 unless you want to go beyond 1080p. RX480/GTX 1060 are perfectly fine for 1080p for a very long time. 1080p itself is kind of becoming outdated, but it's still the target for budget builds, and unless you want to spend another $500(USD idk what ur aussiebux are worth) on a monitor you shouldn't bother getting anything better than what you have. At this point I'd save as much money as possible on the current build and aspire to grab a 1440p monitor & a better GPU in a couple of years when it's upgrade time. That isn't practical within your current budget, you'd be nearly doubling, but don't be extravagant on this build IMO. Drop the bluray, downgrade the RAM, get a cheaper Windows license, and put some money in your piggy bank for a 2018 upgrade.
And to outline this prospective 2018-ish upgrade, I'd get:
Whatever the best 11xx card is for 1440p. I imagine it will be the 1170.
A 1440p/144hz monitor.
Upgrade to 16gb RAM - by then you might actually want it. For now it's wasteful, and DDR4 sticks will almost surely be cheaper in 2 years.
This is roughly $1000 worth of upgrades. Again, not viable for your current budget, but a very nice upgrade path for you. And if you make the mentioned changes and put $200-300 in your pocket right now from cutting back on the current build you're a third of the way there.
Or if you're still happy in two years and either aren't playing many games or are still satisfied with your 1080p then just keep riding the 1080p train. There's definitely no sense in getting a GTX 1070 or investing any further in a 1080p-oriented build right now though. What you have is fine, excluding the possible cuts I and others have suggested.
Thanks for all the feedback so far.
I'll be able to run Xbox One ports like Quantum Break, Gears Ultimate and Forza well too right?
>buying windows 10
Why is no one talking about the mobo?
Go for i3 6100 and gtx 1070 instead brah.
Then in 3 years you can upgrade to an i7 6700 for like hundred bucks. Also go for a cheaper mobo
Save some cash and pirate windows. Or run linux
OP here.
What's wrong with the motherboard?
I'm happy to pay extra for mATX so I can save space. That case is mATX too.
Has USB-C and supports DDR4.
Very future-proof.
This. Just flash it in a fuck in pen drive and save 200 bucks, then use what you have saved to get a 1070 or a good PSU, and change the RAM, you are paying more for less, now DDR4 is cheaper and faster. My mobo and processor didn't accept DDR4 so I had to get DDR3, and fuck, I wasted 20 more bucks on slower shit.
>even considering to buy windows 10
lmao
>buying HDD
>buying disc writer
>buying Windows
Not sure if its 2016 now
>Spending $274 on a shitty quad core
holy shit that makes my $140 3.3 GHz 16-core xeon cry
>GTX 1060
hope you don't plan on playing at higher than 1366x768
>Seagate 2TB Barracuda
I even have a meme for this occasion
>Sandisk SSD
hope you don't value your data
>blu-ray drive
what the fuck is this even used for in 2016?
>buying microsoft windows
put that $200 into your GPU instead, holy shit
>paying $195 for Botnet 10
I'll nominate you for the Goy of the Year award that's for sure
1. Don't buy Seagate
2. Don't buy Windows, it has adware built-in so you pay with your personal data and ads
OP here.
I made some tweaks.
Gonna get Windows off Kinguin for $38AUD
>Buying your own botnet.
Are you sure you're getting enough power with 550W ?
>compares a xeon to a gaymin cpu
Unless your xeon can utilize all them coreys then it's pretty much a crap cpu for op's purpose which is playing games
Plus op, save on the windows and get a better mobo, cpu and a case
The core is a very annoying case plus a low quality one
>Gonna get Windows off Kinguin for $38AUD
just pirate it, it's not like Kinguin has legit keys for anything anyway
It's more than enough
Don't pair a 6600k with a H110 board, you can't overclock your cpu if that is your cup of tea
>Kingston UV400 SSD
Comparing against it to a 850 evo, it's a lot slower
ssd.userbenchmark com/Compare/Kingston-SSDNow-UV400-480GB-vs-Samsung-850-Evo-500GB/m138433vs3477
>seagate
goodu jobbu desu
Get 16gb, don't jew youself on memory.
Get a motherboard that supports DDR4
>not making a build from the MSY parts list
>lel
This one does.
>you should reduce the ram to 8gb
What are you on about mate? He'll save 50 bucks tops doing that. I have 8 GB and I regularly run out of memory on my desktop without doing anything too crazy. Those 50 extra bucks are money well spent on the extra memory.
>buying mini-meme cases and motherboards
>paying for wangblows
>any year
All in all it's fine, even though I would change some things.
Mobo: get a H110 one from Asus. It's cheaper and it supports DDR4 RAM.
RAM: Kingston Savage DDR4 2133 MHz CL 13 1x8 GB is great. You really don't nees 16 GB.
GPU: GTX1060 is great, but why do you want the Asus one? Do you really care for leds? EVGA GTX 1060 is cheaper, smaller and performs as well.
HDD: why 2 TB and Seagate? Spare some money and get a 1TB WD Caviar Blue. It's much cheaper and doesn't perform worse.
SSD: get Samsung 850 EVO 250 GB. It's only slightly cheaper than Sandisk despute being better.
Windows: don't get OEM license. You can find retail licenses for less money.
Sorry I meant to sya that Samsung SSD is only slightly more expensive
Your motherboard doesnt have a pcix16
>foregoing dual channel DDR
So what? He could always get an additional 8 GB stick in the future. RAM doesn't perform worse even if it's not in dual channel.
>Windows 10
Kinguin sells just key only for $27...
Download the iso from microsoft FOR FREE.
SEriously, save yourself that money and get a beefier part
Since when does Windows cost $200? lol
Anyway you're also overpaying for the 1060. Get Zotac or MSI. The Two-fan mini version is just as good; costs $300. ASUS is shit and overpriced.
I suggest you get a 6700 as well. The 6500 will bottleneck the GPU in some cases (e.g. GTAV, Dota2, some old MMORPGs -- trust me) no only because of less cores but also the relatively lower clock speeds. Difference is $30.
You also forgot the PSU. Get something gold-certified. 500W should be more than enough, and that's ideal since 50% load is where PSUs are most efficient. At least semi-modular for who knows what occasion.
You can probably find a cheaper motherboard as well. Just be sure it has the proper connectivity options (e.g. usb 3.1 gen 2 or what-have-you).
>Fractal design case
Do you really need to spend that extra money?
I dont suppose you stare at your tower all day. Get a cheaper case and put that extra money elsewhere.
You need a psu senpai.
Intel i5 6500 doesn't bottleneck GTX 1060
is the RX480 alright for 1080p/144hz?
I have a fury x 6700k and I can get 100fps un ULTRA with everything at max even with sometimes 8x msaa. So if u put shit on medium yes.
>Windows 10 200 buck
lmao
what happened to
>windows 10 will be free u guys :^) even for the chinks! ;)
It does. I have a 6700k and 6500 with a 1060. There are noticeable difference in some games like perfect world, dota 2, LoL, and GTA V (where lots of pedestrians are present/long LoS).
No but depends on the settings you'll be playing at.
thanks m8s
I'll probably just go with 60hz then
It's a budget build. Get rid of the ssd.
Change the i6500 to i5 6600k
Do you really need a blu ray writer?
the upgrade from older versions was free. Not the license
I would downgrade to 8 gb of ram, 1 tb hdd, drop the bluray writer that you'll probably never use and buy the >windows license elsewhere if you want the system for gaymen. If not linux is the way to go senpai
>$200 windows on a junk pc
why tho
Pirate windows.
