So my rockbox'd Clip Zip is kicking the bucket. What microSD DAP can I get up to 60€?
Been reading some good things about the xDuoo X2. Good choice, or should I just grab another Sansa?

i got one based on "reading good things". don't buy it. the interface is like pulling teeth and it constantly chokes on track selection. i don't know what kind of consumer stockholm those dorks at head-fi have, but don't listen to their praise. my xduoo x2 was a miserable experience
I did find some complaining about the ui, but couldn't really tell how bad. Anything I should consider instead? The Zip already froze 4 or 5 times while waiting for a reply. Found also some praise on the Benjie S5, and I just found the Fiio M3 in my price range as well, although I'm also reading about some ui quirks on it.
I've looked around quite a bit OP, and at this price range there's literally nothing better. The UI might be sort of dumb but you won't be browsing the web on it, quality sound is all you need and this little thing has it.
As long as navigating folders isn't a pain, fine by me. I take it already outclasses the zip, from what I've read, and it has the grunt to easily drive my Xiaomi Pistons out of the box?
Not amping it, btw. I like my audio quality, but I'd rather not go full retard with my wallet over tiny gains. That being said, it will really be a jack-of-all-trades of music genres, so I hope it matches everything I throw at it.
if i were you i'd look up some reviews and read about it on head-fi.
are those tactile buttons on the front? Or capacitive?
You'd love it OP.
Capacitative.
Took a look at the x5, but it's almost double my budget, so I guess I'll skip it.
Thanks though, I'll read some more on the M3, and if I like what I see I'll go for it. As long as it at least matches the Zip I'll be happy.

I have a fiio x1 which is quite expensive but it's really nice. You can get it somewhat cheaper from china, but whether those are fakes or not, idk. Great UI and feel of the product, nice physical buttons and I've dropped it tons of times and it works just fine.
I thought they were touch at first, and was about to rule it out, but from what I'm finding people claim they're actual physical buttons
if you want proper buttons look at the onn X5
aliexpress.com
or ruizu X18 but looks a little cheap
aliexpress.com
Google it, so many people say it that I have to believe it. Actual physical, clickable buttons.
how much money are the kikes at sandisk reasonably saving with these "sport" bullshit sasas anyway?
Sorry, I'm dumb, they're real, physical buttons.
This thread seem like a good place to ask so...
I've used sansa clip+ with rockbox to listen audiobooks all my life. Now it's impossible find any in my country since they're not made anymore. What player with bookmark feature could you guys recommend? Sd card slot would also be nice, but not necessary.
If you want to keep things simple you can grab a Clip Jam, which is essentially an updated Clip+.
From what I've read though, it will only bookmark anything in the Books folder.
You can get the Xduoo X3 without stretching your budget too much, it runs rockbox and has dual microsd slots with the same audio hardware as the Fiio x3. I'm really enjoying mine.
Unfortunately none of the small cheap DAPs these days have the ability to run embedded linux. So right now your options are figure out how to wright display drivers for fiooX# or get a Xduoo X3.
Sorry user, too late, ordered the M3 already. Went through a few reviews, and apparently most of the ui issues are playlist related, which I rarely use anyway, everything is already organized in folders. Also most put it only slightly below the X1, and kept below my budget limit at 56€. Here's hoping it performs as believed.
>Unfortunately none of the small cheap DAPs these days have the ability to run embedded linux
Eh whatever, it won't have kiddie porn stored in it anyway
so in all honesty, will the M3 give me an "only slightly worse purchase" if I choose it over the X1? I also found a 1st gen X3 for 89, what's the better choice in the end?
From what I've read, yes.
If the gap is larger or not, can't tell. All I can do is compare it to the dying Clip Zip I have now when it arrives.
This Chinese company is working on a rockboxable player: forums.rockbox.org
Thanks, hopefully it'll be a bit more rugged than clip+ since wood manufacturing factory is not very electronic friendly workplace. Already wrecked 7 clip+ players there
Well, what you gonna use it for? I use it for gym, biking, sometimes while traveling so quality between a high end device and the m3 isn't really noticeable while still being pretty damn good.
If you like to sit in bed and just enjoy music you might consider something more expensive, although still... quality is pretty damn good, i doubt you'll notice a difference unless you're some sort of audiophile.
It was worth going through the fiio shill posts to get to this. thanks senpai
Ok, going offtopic for this, isn't the shill memeing getting out of hand now? Seriously, now you can't even like something without being called a shill.
Have this and like it. Only complaint is that the track to track transition is not seamless. So songs that bleed into each other get a small blip of silence in between them.
I'm in the same boat. Had a clip+ that died from surtension, the jack port of the clip zip I had after shitted the bed and only had sound in one ear, my current clip+ is starting to show the same weaknesses.
No Sansa clip survived me for more than a year and now they're overpriced, don't want to pay 70 or more bucks for a DAP that won't last me at least 6 months.
I was thinking of getting a plenue D but I think I will really miss rockbox thought.
Thanks for the info, curious to see how it will turn out.
>shill memeing
>memeing
The shilling is what's out of hand you fucking cuck. In every clip/rockbox/dap thread, the fiiofags can't help but shekel.
>No Sansa clip survived me for more than a year
Damn, my current clip has lasted 3 years and still manages 15 hours battery with daily use. I'll probably cry when it dies.
To be honest, I'm responsible of the death of the first one, and the second and third one were refurbished.
I may be at fault for the jack dying two times but I don't really know how... I'm pretty caring with my stuff and my headphones are nearly four years old and still going very well.
Have this and love it. Yeah, the UI is wonky but I got used to it pretty fast.
The jack dying is very common with the clips. You can bust it open and do a little soldering to fix it if it's only dead on one side.
I'm not really a DIY Guy but it's worth a shot. Any directions on how to do it ?
How's the battery life?
