Welcome to Linux binary compatibility. Try installing said dependency and pray while it downloads. Make sure you get the right version if you have some sort of multiarch setup.

The only thing that annoys me with Toady is he refuses to learn MT, which is fucking trivial to learn and it literally just more emphasis on timing your shit.

In the case of Dorf fort, there is a shitload of features in the game that don't even NEED accurate timing anyway!
There are so many background tasks running in the game that taking them out to their own thread would MASSIVELY increase the games speed.
That would leave plenty of room for pathfinding in the main thread, which he can later take out if he wants to.

The other thing is he refuses to make his life easier by automating large parts of his development by developing tools to help him during said development.
He is already struggling with development now, and it is going to get exponentially worse as he goes on.
He edits large parts of the game manually, said parts which could be built automatically through a menu-building tool.
Large parts of the game are horribly dependent and horribly inconsistent.
The control scheme is most apparent in this because there are 4 methods of designating an area, tile, line, that weird ass farm rectangular expansion method, and the x1,y1->x2-y2 rectangle method. Actually 5, radial.
But all of these are used exclusively depending on the designation.
It would be far better to be able to use any of those selection methods for any kind of designation. (especially farms, why the fuck are they limited?!)

I'd honestly pay Toady several gs to spend a year just doing this. No constant new features which break old features, no more bloat before he actually tidies the game up and makes the features consistent and not a pain in the ass to work with.
The game is trivial to actually play and understand, it is just the menu and controls put off SO MANY people. He is hurting himself in the end.
He won't, though.
