First for this alps hybrid thingy.

I think that the prevalence of 'hacker' fonts on new mechanical keyboards is proof that a large part of the market is 12 year olds

what are "hacker" fonts?

Given the fact that the largest manufacturers of mechanical keyboards are companies that produce peripherals aimed at gamers, that doesn't seem to far fetched.

Good thing that this place is full of mature fifteen year olds.

Trying to decide on a good keyboard layout.

aha so you were the one who was starting all these threads. finally got a trip i see

>all these threads
Hardly all of them, only the ones with one of my images in the OP.

And yes, I got a trip on an anons request so he could keep track of my work. I only ever post here and in the /bst/ and just lurk the rest of Sup Forums, so I guess it's excusable

Blacks are objectively the best switch

no one can prove me wrong

wtf you're back

Oh you're actually not dead.

Yeah, blacks are pretty nice. Ask that stiff sliding action really feels good doesn't it?

wtf that looks gay as hell

yeah, until i decide to use something else

Black ALPS, that is.

Why do people say that certain switches are good for "gaming"? Even within rhythm games, some switches that are good in one game can feel awful in another.

nah thats gay af

YES IT DEFINITELY DOES :^)

sup yo

Seeing this post makes my want to fix my CNC machine and start making keyboard parts, but it would cost well into the 4 digits and honestly I can't justify spending that amount of money for something I will only use two or three times

Wow you couldn't pick a worse alps switch.

>tfw tada68 only got shipped out today
>tfw not enough keyboards

Because people are retarded and gobble up marketing bullshit that gets perpetuated by equally uninformed "tech bloggers"

You could probably finance that in the long run by producing custom cases for group buys and the like.

In the long run.

i had an idea to make a 60% case out of this fucking sandstone i have to cut every fucking day

>tada68
did i buy one..
i can't remember now

what's the cutest keyboard

You sure about that?

Lolita

Those are some ugly-ass legends.

oh god
stop
no

>pew pew

Make a case for a TKL or at least a 68 key. 60% suck in the regard that you barely get to show is the material that you used, unless you make the case have a huge bezel.

HHKB

Jesus

Who the hell is making this

...

jd45 with a better keyset than this

>You could probably finance that in the long run by producing custom cases for group buys and the like

You know that since I'm a very small operation I can't store large rolls of metal. Most the scrap I get I use to make small things to patch up stuff.

Also the biggest problem would be cooling the thing. Right now I just use a lot of WD40 and if I'm gonna be milling a large chunk of aluminum I need to get a dedicated coolant system which is also another grand

60% is easy
you just cut a pocket and drop it in

I didn't know corsair makes aftermarket keycaps now.

Yeah, but what's the point of using some fancy ass material if you aren't going to show it off properly.

At least have a HHKB style case if you're going to make a 60%

no man
it's fucking rock
you can't make a top and bottom half

It's probably easier to just to use cast aluminum. I don't have much experience with it but with the time I spent with it it seems a lot easier

Just make a PCB and plate that fits the pocket, this isn't rocket science

Cute and comfy are the best

but that would look retarded with a TKL

and i did in fact order a tada68 apparently
that would fit into a simple pocket

That's why I'm telling you to make it HHKB-style.

Hell, I could probably even take care of the PCB and the plate if you make it a 40%

no fuck that
i'll just use this stupid pcb

>MIA button
very tasteful and sensitive

What's the point of "le_haxxor_60%" keyboard? Is it designed for some kind of text editor like vi or emacs or operating/computer system other than ibm pc compatibles?

Where are the function keys? Thinkpad users complain about them and actually need them for example. Key combinations are uncomfortable.

Where are the arrow keys? How do i move my coursor or play pacman? Okay, you say muh "homerow", but i see no trackpoint too.

Is there any existing keyboard with socketed Cherry switches? If one fails, i'll just swap it for another without soldering.

60% is for patricians sorry

You mean, pederasts?

>60% is for people who can't type without switching to the mouse every word sorry
ftfy

This is untrue I only use the keyboard

75% is the god tier layout

soldering is fucking easy as shit you pathetic idiot, a switch failing isn't even something that happens often if ever

This is a 'hacker' font, and is why I made that post. I really like this keyboard except for the retarded font, and replacement keys seem to be $40 and up

amazon.com/MechanicalEagle-Mechanical-Keyboard-Anti-Ghosting-Switches/dp/B01FS7ROX0/ref=pd_sim_sbs_147_3?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=MTG3N9WND9A7XH5V90CB

>Is there any existing keyboard with socketed Cherry switches?

Only one I know of is the Team Wolf keyboard.

you're expecting too much from a gaymen chinkboard, just accept it's not the one for you and move on

>Is there any existing keyboard with socketed Cherry switches? If one fails, i'll just swap it for another without soldering.

Socket would fail before switch does.

there is an upgraded version going on massdrop in a couple of days that has upgrades that I don't care for, but for some reason they chose a better font, and the price increase is still better than buying the original+new keycaps. However my internet is kind of bad and for whatever reason I can't load that massdrop page

Look pretty good, all that it needs is a trackpoint.
Now: How are you going to make this shit?

Its just a stencil font. They use it because stencil fonts are easy and cheap to doubleshot. Same reason why "replacement keys seem to be $40 and up", although you can still find those same shitty stencil caps for $10 shipped on ebay.

anybody with a pcb planck or preionic wanna tell my why my KC_LGUI and LC_LALT become switched when i compile? I'm using bone stock qmk firmware

thoughts?

neat or autism?

that's freaking sweet

what is it?

Needs the other math functions.

>addition-only numpad

Super-autismo, honestly.

agreed

it's called the Road Kit. it's made by the guy who made the minivan on massdrop

very understandable, i think.
using it as a le minimalist numpad for basic functions & as a switch tester seems nice to me.

keeping in mind this was made to accompany a 40% keyboad

i only ever used the + and enter, like for summing a series of numbers or entering numbers for stock trading, so that's all i would need in a numpad

vim arrow order is fucking wrong and dumb
it should instead obvious be
left up down right

playing with layouts, and as much as i want to conform to tradition and historic standards, this one just doesn't work for me

Probably should have used more single-unit keys to fit in more math symbols.

total autism and a complete waste of that keyset

i believe you could use a grid layout with it, and only 1u keys, but I don't remember

i don't think it's out yet

it is a nice keyset :^)
still hope it drops again

and where tf is gmk cyrillic

I would appreciate a left-hand flipped numpad far more.

>still hope it drops again
prob not
almost didn't make moq

again, i think the pcb would allow for a grid layout so you could make it left handed if you want

that's too bad

i don't understand how
>THIS
looks better to people than the TA Royal Alpha set to anyone

wow way to grammar

looks like physical AIDS

No, I was making the ones with the /mkg/ text, but being in the UK it sometimes meant staying up til ridiculously hours to create a new thread. I don't mind not having the OP, doesn't make a difference to me anyway because my Sup Forums postings can be sort of sporadic.

I even had one ready to go.
>Pic related

If anyone wants to recreate, font is Nexa Heavy for the /mkg/, Nexa Bold Italic for the bit at the top and Nexa Bold Regular (linear burn blending mode) for the credit line. I also used a slight vignette for most of them.

>What did you imagine it looked like?
More tight, this loose mechanism looks like its easy to break and isn't durable too much. But then again I'm new to this hobby so I don't know shit.
>That loose action you're seeing is what makes the switch so smooth without even needing any lubricant.
That's good to hear. I actually just got used alps board and I've been wondering if I should lubricate switches while cleaning them, but I don't have to, right?

>it sometimes meant staying up til ridiculously hours to create a new thread
get a life jeez

One time I stayed up 30 minutes past when I would ordinarily knock off for the night. And I'd be doing other things anyway.

Soz you got offended senpai

>wondering if I should lubricate switches while cleaning them, but I don't have to, right?

Not really needed with ALPS switches.

Yes, please don't post threads about technology on Sup Forums. This is a consumer review board.

A ducky of you're choice. The Ducky Zero or the Ducky one should suit your tastes, and you'll even have warranty and everything since Ducky is a Taiwanese company (with production also in Taiwan).

Though I'd reconsider your choice of browns.

What keycaps bro?

GMK Dolch

What's wrong with brown?

the tactile bump is too weak when typing fast. consider clears or blues

Are the older Cherry Blacks any good? I found one auction and I'm wondering if its worth the trouble

Vintage cherries are considered superior to modern day cherries since they're far smoother than the newer ones.

Cherry really should invest in some new molds. They're top of the game, but gateron does a better job at being smooth, which is the most noticeable part compared to their cherry counterparts.

How do you even make plastic box like that for switches? I want to make a 60% keyboard out of this old commodore-style switches but it's layout is so uncommon I will never find ready box like on mechanicalkeyboards.com or somewhere

I guess you could 3D print something, or cut it out of whatever material you like. Like pic related, it's just layers of plastic and metal.

In case you're wondering, I didn't make that "plastic box" that you're referring to. It's a magicforce that I brutalized a bit and then hand-wired.

Is the ajazz ak33 any good?

sure why not. I'd go for the noppoo nano instead.

...

How about the Qisan 68

It is one of the better chinkboards out there so go for it. Its not bad for $40

I want a $70-80 mx blue white keyboard. Preferably 80% with arrows and no led, what are best options?

How are zealios compared to 55g topre in terms of weight? Specifically 65g and 67g.

They're about 10 and 12g heavier.

And they don't feel similar in the slighest, but that should be obvious.

Model F 122 key on the way, and Model F 77 4704 (reproduction) on order.
Pretty exciting stuff.
