Are used HDDs okay? I know I'm not covered by a warranty which worries me.

SAME FAG!

Are you capable of checking the number of IPs participating on a thread?

>buy used hdd
>recover data

aah the stuff i've found

Slightly unrelated, but I misread the thread as pcb-general. I was expecting a discussion about PCB boards.

These heatspreader things appears to be useless. Am I right?

PLEASE HELP ANONS, I DO NOT WANT TO HAVE TO GO INTO A PC REPAIR SHOP~

Had to replace my dying/ dead PSU, and now whenever I turn on my PC from being off, or resume it from sleeping, it sort of "revs up". This is what it'll do:
>Begins to start up for a few seconds
>Stops abruptly, stays off for a second or 2
>Repeat anywhere from 2-15 times until it finally turns on

Help friends?

how do i recover data on a hdd? im thinking of buying some used to see whats in there xd

check SMART of used hdd before buying it if you can, or ask for screenshot/photo of crystal disk info or etc

You're goddamn right

fucked up PSU i guess. Or something is wrong with your mobo

Try resetting the BIOS. After that, if you have multiple stick of memory, try them one at a time. If you have onboard video, take out your video card and try the oboard.

make sure the seller is a qt 12 yr old

Is there any decent 2160p bezel-free monitor for

Having the same problem as you right now, computer turns off then turns back on. not my gpu or psu as I replaced both of those

any help?

Acer S277HK
I own one and can't tell the bezel is there with lights off

please see also if you aren't using motherboard standoffs/risers you could have shorted the motherboard causing damage to the circuits

Going to run several VM, game, office work, media server. I already have several drives, so that's why I only have 1 hdd. I am kindof unsure about the fans. I don't know much about fans to know what to pick. I think I'll need a few given what I'm going to do with the machine but what do you anons recommend?

Dumb question, but what does resetting the BIOS do? Does that restore my PC or any shit like that?

It just resets the settings your BIOS is using. It doesn't affect your data.

Resetting the BIOS will reset your CPU and motherboard settings. Overclocks, time and date, power-saving options, memory timings, it will reset it to factory settings.
BIOS options can be changed from inside the OS, but it is not recommended.

I'm not sure if there are any important settings in BIOS that will be reset, is the BIOS usually in default settings normally?

I reset the bios multiple times but the shutdown still happens, not just a normal shutdown but like the power cuts off.

>no SSD
just get fractal's fans to match up with the 1-2 you get with the case.

pcpartpicker.com/list/4drqRG
Thoughts?
I know
>garbage headset
>Meme keyboard
>gaming on wifi

it'll work

try pulling the button cell battery on your motherboard and putting it back in. that is hard resetting the bios.
also, are you using motherboard standoff/risers?

In my BIOS settings, is "Load UEFI Defaults" the same as resetting the bios?

For DDR4, yes
Highly overclocked DDR3 would've gotten pretty hot though

>3gb 1060

>pcpartpicker.com/list/4drqRG
get a 5820K if you can, better performance
DO NOT USE CHEAP WIFI ADAPTERS FOR GAMING - I own the SAME MODEL adapter and it sucks even for netflix. Get a good one like Asus or Belkin, $30-$40 wifi adapters ARE WORTH IT - the signal never drops and ping is fast
also that headset sucks, get stereo or bust

also, get a wifi adapter that supports 5GHz (assuming your router outputs a 5GHz band)
it wont be interfered by microwaves

I hear USB wifi adapters are fucking garbage and PCI/e is where it's at
Is a $20 PCI wifi card enough to hold me over

Fixed

pcpartpicker.com/list/8jRwgL

Already have an ssd, but thanks user.

listen dude, i told you in the last thread.

you're wasting over a hundred fucking bucks buying shit-tier products to "hold you over". you wont get back even half that when you sell it after you bought the good products you want.

stop being a fucking retard and wait until you can afford buying something good.

I saw that video card for $20 less on some site yesterday. I was extremely tempted to buy it.

And why does not a single PCI wifi card support 5GHz/A?

2TB drive is only $10 more than 1TB

no usb adapters are fine. the reason why pci adapters exist is because when USB 1.1 was too slow, they made pci adapters because usb 2 wasnt out yet. now were on 3.1 so it doesnt fucking matter. USB is fine and dandy

It's "holding me over" until I move to a place where I can reasonably plug in my $2 Ethernet cable

Just reset BIOS settings, didn't fix. As of right now my PC is kill (won't even attempt to turn on).

I feel like it's a PSU problem

BECAUSE THEY'RE SHIT
USB is fine, your internet will never be fast enough to top out USB speeds
Stop buying TP-LINK garbage. Get a good one like Asus or Belkin.

I currently have a R9 380, which does really well for me at 1080p. I'm considering buying a 1440p monitor and I'm wondering if my GPU will do okay. I'm well aware that I won't be playing AAA games at native resolution but I don't care about that. Will I be able to play games like EU IV and Civ V at 1440p with the 380? Or should I consider upgrading?

I will ask a third time. Are you using motherboard standoffs?
If no, you could have possibly shorted your motherboard.
I have R9 290 and I play battlefield on ultra at 4K with no problem, so you should be fine.

I have 6tb in storage already that I will be throwing into the case, as well as a ssd. I've never used a fan controller though. Since the case comes with two fans do I need any additional fans? And will the fans in the case work with the fan controller? Sorry for the stupid questions.

I was thinking a power draw or connectivity advantage maybe
I'm sure we're all aware 300MB/s is less than 1GB/s

I didn't build my computer, so I don't know what motherboard standoffs are nor do I know If my PC has them or not

Look you dumbshit
If there's a spacer on the screw between the motherboard and the case
You're smart enough to figure that out right

He posted an extremely clear picture of what they were
I didn't know what they were a second ago and now I'm 100% confident I could find them

Lmfao relax bud, I'll go see

Oh I hadn't seen the picture, now I understand why you called e a dumbass.

I'll look to see if I have standoffs installed or not

>I have R9 290 and I play battlefield on ultra at 4K with no problem, so you should be fine.

Thanks for the info. I figured I would be fine but couldn't find too much info about running that card at 1440p.

pcpartpicker.com/list/P49wgL
I was so concerned about getting a headset with a mic to play with friends I forgot that I had a shit tier one in my garage
fixed with literal 5 dollar peripherals
See above, chose asus wifi adapter

What's the best PCI (not PCIe) wifi card? Don't need 5GHz/a and don't wanna spend a ton of money
You say don't get tp link but their $20 PCI wifi card is like the only PCI wifi card there is that's still sold at more than one site
Are the other ones outdated/overpriced/obsolete?

Interested as well

I believe my motherboard has standoffs

Pic related, little gold screw thing that's keeping the board off the case.

Where do i learn about the purpose of each component?
I don't know shit about pc building.

Turns out the PSU that replaced my dead one was a Logisys one. Fuckers gave me a piece of shit PSU. I guess it's time for me to learn how to install my own stuff, these places keep fucking me
over.

So it's reasonable to assume that my problems are coming from the Chinese street tier PSU they gave me?

The OP.

It's a reasonable thought
Now I'm worried. There's dozens upon dozens of unanswered threads talking about how Windows 10 has serious software/driver problems with TP link PCI cards
I don't wanna use up my last PCIe slot to get a "normal" PCIe card and USB dongles are for white trash
Pic related: the only PCI wifi card that has consistent and widespread prices

So the core i3 is better than a FX 8300?
Do 750ti still good buy options?

CPU: main math dude. He does all the hard work processing numbers. If you game, he does the physics too.
GPU: renders textures, does antialiasing, and pretty much everything in the gaming world. Not needed for a work or school computer.
RAM: kind of like short term memory. It keeps everything that's currently running going, and keeps a cache of information when you close out a program. The more, the better.
Motherboard: backbone of the PC. Keeps everything connected to each other.
PSU: Supplies energy to all parts of a PC.
Use the links that op posted and look it up on Google.

Watch this
youtu.be/SWWlEo0uIRg

you're getting twice the space for basically no extra cost. if you already have drives and an SSD for it, why are you buying more in the first place?

you dont NEED more fans in that case.
what fan controller are you talking about?

i mean the fucking headphones and mouse and keyboard and other shit as well.

and you could just use your fucking phone for internet tether via usb if it has that feature.

Are Squaretrade warranties on new parts from Amazon worth the extra dosh or no?

fucking gold

I'm someone else, I already have a $15 Logitech keyboard/mouse combo
I just want use wifi
And my phone does do that, and it's like 5x faster than my wifi, but muh data limit

>im someone else
oh ok.

>muh data limit
ya but you can connect your phone to your modem wifi and your computer to your phone via USB and you dont use your mobile data.

There is a fan controller in my link above

oh i missed that. check to see what type of connector your controller has (3 or 4 pin small fan or big molex)
check your case specs to see how many fans it supports, how many comes with it and what sizes.
then you can check a fan comparison test to see which ones move the most air (CFM) while being the most silen (dB)

Hello.
I have currently 2 GPUs to my disposal to choose from: Radeon RX 470 4GB
or Radeon AXR9 380 4GB
Both are around the same price. I never had a AMD before and im unsure but i only have this two options in my country for cheap.
Also, will i be able to see a large difference in power compared to my current GPU (see pic)? Or should i rather upgrade my CPU for a bigger performance impact. I mostly play games like Total War, Metro, Arma 3 and some MMOs. Thanks

Also high static pressure fans (SP models, high hg/mm pressure ratings) are good for restricted airflow like heatsink/radiator fans or stupid case designs where's there's 50 hard drives in front of the fans

I'm looking at downsizing my computer from a Define R5 to a Define Nano S. How does my build look and how's building in the Nano S if I want to add more storage? I would also appreciate part suggestions if it would make this upgrade cheaper.
pcpartpicker.com/list/JRXVWX
>Motherboard must have connection points that aren't retarded and have Linux-compatable wifi
>Case should be silent and decently small with good cable management and accessibility

470

no

>127c

Yo mother so hot

No to what? Upgrading the CPU or the large difference to my current GPU.
Ignore the motherboard, it is not on fire.

difference in power

you should definitely upgrade your cpu, tho.

pcpartpicker.com/list/dKTYNN

bought the psu last night, feels good man
what should I buy today? anything I should change?

pcpartpicker.com/list/nBHqRG mostly for gayming and work. Trying to do smallest possible build, because i don't have that much space on/near my desk. Any suggestions? I already have that hdd

everything at the same time preferably. if not: cpu, ram, mobo, cooler and SSD so you can test those and install windows and update drivers and watch porn

dont need aftermarket cooler unless you want something a little bit cooler and quieter than stock heatsink.

>want to go smallest possible
>not ITX mobo and case

Thanks for the Links OP, logical increments it's awesome with prices for your own country

i was going to wait to see if any of them go on sale in the next couple days

>install windows and update drivers and watch porn
good idea user, I hadn't thought about that. still iffy on the mobo but I will start with the other pieces

>ITX mobo for twice the price with less features
>cheap mITX case with space for 30cm gpu

>twice the price
lol no: pcpartpicker.com/products/motherboard/#f=8&sort=a8&page=1

>less features
overall yes, but can you name which ones you need?

>cheap mITX case with space for 30cm gpu
pcpartpicker.com/products/compare/2kTrxr,8238TW,YHV48d/

btw the corsair 200R you picked is a standard sized case so you wont save any desk space with that no matter what motherboard you choose

Name the best wifi card for a PC tower.

Bonus if it does bluetooth.

How do you guys pick a motherboard? What features do you look for in one?

>build a pc for about £600
>see a second-hand one on gumtree that's just as good for £400

suicide may be an option 2bh

News about the next amd cards?

chipset, mosfets, power phase, number of ports and types of them, RAM speeds supported, high quality capacitors and other durable parts.

most of these are hard for someone to tell without having it in your hands and actually testing it, so real reviews are key.

What motherboard do you use? Sounds like you know your stuff.

What is that thing in the picture?

GPUs*

P67A-UD5-B3 but you should not buy this it's for old socket 1155

on some mobos you can get a general idea how good mosfets and power phase is by looking at the marked parts of this pic

around 120-170 will get you a really good motherboard, check the pic and notice the parts i market in my pic, add them to a compare list and then google a review and see which one seems best

>high quality capacitors
Out of interest, what difference does that make

The one on my guitar amp blew up because it wasn't rated high enough to take the voltage. Outside of that, why does it matter?

Underage b&.

90's mouse, you had to remove and clean the ball because it used to accumulate dirt.

just general quality difference. japanese caps are considered high quality. they last longer and are guaranteed not to be lower rated caps rebranded by some chinese scammer.

>check the pic and notice the parts i market in my pic, add them to a compare list and then google a review and see which one seems best
i mean check the images on the site you are shopping on, look at the same parts i marked in my image, and add a few alternatives to your shopping list or the website's compare feature, then google some reviews for those mobos.

Aren't Gigabyte mostly good choices?
